Ep.01 – ENGLAND

it’s 8:00 on Monday the 10th of June the headlines this morning President macron says he’s made the serious heavy decision to call a snap election in France after a crushing defeat by the far right in voting for the European Parliament the liberal Democrats are launching their Manifesto with a pledge to boost spending on the Health Service and social care in England by 9 billion at NHS blood and Transplant thank you very much and Helen Willets with the weather Michelle thank you very much hello good morning a rather cool and showery day for many but across the south and east of England we have some rains that’s Lincolnshire the Midlands East angle and the southeast it’s windy and there’ll be some heavy rain for the next few hours should clear by lunchtime and then the skies will brighten a little with a scattering of heavy showers but there’s a yellow warning from the Met Office for strong Gusty winds for East Anglia 50 m an hour because it’s so unseasonable and it will mean it’ll feel cooler again today 13 or 14 I think the I had been wondering about this day for quite some time how would I feel after the first Pedas Strokes into a life change and at the start of a long ride would I be excited would I be afraid what kind of thoughts will go through my mind once the door locked behind me for the last time with the odd Rumble of Thunder potentially as well I have readen down Abbey Road a thousand times photobombed countless pictures of Beatles fans the time has come I have quit work and I’m leaving England on a bicycle the long face is not for a show I have just said goodbye to friends and to colle colleages and every street is filled with memories as I pass by the buildings where it all had started the Royal Guards pass by me then I Coss around Queen Victoria’s statue catching glimpses of Buckingham Palace and wondering whether it would be for the last time probably not yet I was living for good and it really felt like it [Music] I stop by the river and look back one more time at the familiar silhouette of canary Warf and it’s toing buildings but I’m going I’m going for a long bike ride [Music] greetings from leafy Kent The Garden of England yesterday I left London following the Tams estu and made it to Rochester and now I keep following uh National psycho route one which goes all the way to do uh from where I will cross the channel so today I’m heading to Canterbury and uh still feeling a little bit like a traveling circus getting used to a heavier bike and uh getting used to pack it know where everything is and uh hopefully looking forward to in a few weeks to be able to pack it in 5 minutes rather than the 25 minutes that it took this morning weather is beautiful today sunny and much better than London yesterday I think the city made sure to see me off with a roll of thunder so got a bit of a wet start but this is England for you that’s why it’s so beautiful and so green at least that’s what people say to cheer you up when you’re soaked wet so let’s go to Canterbury about has changed about me has change I’m sleeping just without you all I could something about me feels strange something is just not the same I haven’t been thinking about you even when I [Music] should all the lies they told I forgiv all the fights in his fault I forgot I’ve done all in my power to heal them all of my scar I’m getting good to let it [Music] go it’s a good end to a very nice cycling day about to reach Canterbury and uh National cycle Route One D Isa point actually this part is really beautiful just going through the through a thick forest about you off something about you off but I was too to see to love to know oh somebody told me get lost somebody gave a head but I just couldn’t believe it little did I know all the LI they told I for all the fights in fault I forgot I’ve done all in my power heal all of my scar I’m getting good to letting go I’m let there yet but but I know a a open hold they when I’m Happ just made it to do and it’s fair port and what is quite a dull day at the moment but at least I didn’t get any rain and 30 years ago I suppose this is the first place I got to when I traveled to England for the first time on a bus and uh would have never thought that one day I’m going to return on a [Music] bicycle what a better place to say farewell to this country than at the White Cliffs of do on a narrow straight Crossing that will take me to the continent goodbye England and thanks for being kind to me [Music] letting go

  1. Enjoyed this one, especially the narration. I’m always keen to learn more about your trips, the route and accommodation and how you’re making these videos on the road. Safe travels and look forward to following along.

  3. Here's to safe travels… and so many discoveries, both from without and within. People have said there are no more heroes, but to many and myself, you are one… in your simple and honest daring and steps. Thank you for taking us along!

  4. Hello Gianni..!!!
How good and how good to read your messages again, live your trips and learn about your experiences…..
Now that you are traveling on vacation, taking a break from the office for a while, how many weeks will you be traveling for, when will you return?
Thank you for sharing your new path, from inside your home. Greetings and good travels in the next few days..!!

  5. By the way, from the name, using a – Brompton, folding bike for longer distances is like limiting the length of your steps with a strap! Its best use is definitely as folded 😄!! And coming back to the sane world is refreshing. Finn. Denmark

  6. Uauhh , big news. I guess you had the guts to do what many of us would like to do one day. I have been here also 30-something years, and it feels as if it is time to pack. It will take you a while to adapt, but I am sure that will be for the better.👍

  7. You looked like you were gliding effortlessly. Such a nice change to see you riding a full size bike, with everything in your roomy Ortliebs. You'll get that packing time down to at least 17 minutes…. Ha! Maybe not 5 after all but whats the rush? Although if you do get that fast please tell us how to do it!! Looking forward to following along on your adventure. Congratulations for starting!

  8. Good luck Gianni. Despite the fact we have never met I shall miss you. Wishing you much love and wonderful adventures ahead wherever you go. May God Bless you! Rachael

  9. Hi Gianni, I admire that you were able to quit everything to go on a big bike ride, I think I will follow your path on of these days… Looking forward to following your journey! Cheers!

  10. Wonderful, poetic storytelling. Watched several of your excellent videos on practical stuff too, while searching online after a chaotic Brompton trip across Europe. Enjoy the journey
