it’s not often talked about there are several intriguing facts about this country let’s take a closer look at Cambodia let’s take [Music] it hell on Earth or as it is known locally naraka dunia is a nickname that actually reflects cambodia’s past from 1975 to 1979 Cambodia fell under the control of the Communist Party of camp AIA famously known as the C Rouge this period was led by Paul pot a politician who adopted Marxist leninist ideologies which meant aligning with the Soviet Union back then like many anti-communist regimes around the world po pot’s rule was marked by extreme brutality his leadership saw the horrific Slaughter of approximately 2.5 million cambodians the executions carried out by C Rouge members were exceptionally cruel leaving a haunting Legacy that still makes many cambodians recoil in horror at the mere thought of it but the nightmare didn’t end with the massacres the CH Rouge enforced a host of draconian policies to realize their Vision they banned the use of money and Western medical practices nearly the entire population was forced into the countryside to engage in Collective farming this drastic shift led to widespread disease and famine the regime another world heritage treasure tonla sap Lake the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia recognized by UNESCO in 1997 this lake is remarkable for two reasons first its water flow reverses Direction twice each year second the size of the lake dramatically expands and contracts with the changing seasons on this Lake you’ll find a stretch of floating houses that form the village of the fisherman in addition to the water conditions influenced by the seasons these floating homes might be one of the reasons why this lake is considered one of the most endangered in the world this Village could be categorized as one of the largest floating villages globally where residents conduct their daily transactions and connect with each other using small wooden boats as their primary means of transportation [Music] in 2021 cambodia’s population reached 16.59% people the country is predominantly inhabited by the Kare the longest standing ethnic group in Cambodia known for their courteous to return the Somaya greeting another important custom to be aware of is removing your Footwear before entering any room office place of worship or private home another unique Cambodian tradition unlike in many other countries is their New Year celebration instead of marking the new year at the end of December cambodians celebrate it from April 13th or 14th to April 16th each year this period marks the end of the harvest season when farmers and fishermen take a break before starting the next planting or fishing cycle but the crun tribe practices a highly unusual custom this is what’s known as the love Hut a place where young men and women engage in affectionate interactions before marriage and it’s approved by their parents in fact it’s their parents who construct these Huts in these Huts young men can come and go spending time with the girls without any pressure or judgment this tradition is specific to the Kung tribe when their daughters reach the age of 9 to 13 their parents will build a special Hut not too far from their main house typically made of bamboo every night young men are allowed to visit they can engage in conversation or even more intimate activities after interacting with several young men the girls are free to choose whom they like it’s at this point they may engage an intimate relation akin to those of a married couple this tradition is seen as a way to teach their daughters social skills and responsibility regarding their bodies it has been in practice since 2003 following an incident where a young girl experienced aggressive behavior from her boyfriend however as this information has become more widespread the tradition has come under scrutiny it’s considered at odds with the common practices of cambodians or the chare people who view premarital love as sinful furthermore the teenage courtship process has been influenced by social media and gadgets interested in visiting Cambodia

Pretty good breakdown. I enjoyed the video.
Cambodia alone will be never ever destroyed our country but the backbone there’s other allies behind the Genocide of Khmers mass execution. Even Henry Kissinger Sec. of States , Vietnam , China were involved into the mass Genocide.(1975-1979) .
Cambodia since Ancient Khmer Empire Civilization was prosperious and powerful Empire that expanded to half part of South East Asia Mainland . Khmer Empire were lure and target by many few neighborings countries that raided and Sacked Khmer Kingdom. Until Cambodia were diminished in sizes and Dimension in territorials . Thailand seized total of 19 Khmers outlying provinces and Vietnam invaded and seized total of 21 Khmer Outlying province these massive Khmer territorials it’s under those neighboring people until nowadays. Then later following the Mass Genocide from 1975-1979. Millions great Khmers people has been executed .
Pol Pot was just a scapegoat. Do understand that the Khmer Rouge regime was made up of 3 groups, the pro-China, pro-Hanoi(Viet Cong infiltration) and the nationalist Khmer. During their rein, there was distrust and caused much of infighting. They killed anyone that looks Chinese or Vietnamese and the intellects. A very ethnic cleansing tactics. By early 1978, pro-Hanoi Khmer Rouge were out numbered and sought help from Communist Vietnam. This was just a set up to allowed Vietnam invasion of Kampuchea. Ho Chi Minh engineered this strategy to conquer Cambodia. This has always been the ambition of Hanoi government under their Nam Tien doctrine adopted by every ruler of Dai Viet, Annam and Vietnam.
Pure BS. I'm Cambodian, and I have never heard such rule. My parents never did that to us. Stop your nonce sense!
I can't cosign on this video. I have lived in Cambodia for the past 7 years and I don't feel this video actually gives an accurate representation of the Khmer people and life in Cambodia. Cambodia is an amazing country and the HELL ON EARTH statement is BS. The West is HELL ON EARTH.
Tomb raider was not filmed at Ankor Wat, but at a smaller temple nearby
