Lufthansa’s Sonderflüge für die deutsche Nationalmannschaft: Effizienz oder Umweltbelastung? ⚽✈️

Lars F Corsten: Welcome to Frequent Traveller TV, today again with a freshly pressed edition. The handpicked topics I have for you are ICE instead of airplane. No, airplane instead of ICE. That’s how it’s done at the European Championships in Germany, the most sustainable ones ever. The German national team flies with the Airbus and not with the ICE. Then we have two topics from the world of the British. Once a Triple 7, which had a rejected takeoff at Gatwick. And the second story is why this rejected takeoff by the father of a former Prime Minister, that’s Prime Minister in German, in any case Prime Ministers PM in England, caused a flight to be canceled. Canceled is not quite right, because he still flew, but he just didn’t fly to the correct airport in the end in England, to be precise, in London. And the last topic, that’s something for gourmets, but it’s highly speculative and it’s about the Airbus A380. And will there be a Plus, a Neo, or something else that has two engines instead of four engines. Let’s take another look at what Airbus has said about it. Remember to subscribe to the channel, turn on the notification bell, leave a like, but also very, very important to comment and give lots of love in the form of likes. And we can start directly with the first topic we have. And indeed, Lufthansa is a partner of the German national team. That was celebrated, that was commemorated, and now it is being celebrated so strongly that of course, even the gentleman with Lufthansa also flies in German. Lufthansa flies the national team with an Airbus, and this Airbus A319 also has a registration, which I have forgotten, as always at this point. No, it is Delta Alpha India Bravo Echo. But I don’t know if this is a dedicated Airbus now. In any case, it is not the one from Lufthansa City and it is also not specially painted in any way, at least not to my knowledge. If you know more about it, let me know. The German national team plays in Dortmund and has set up their camp here in Herzogenaurach. Yes, right next to Adeidis, the sponsor, should I say Adidas? In any case, Adeidis sounds better. And how do you fly from Nuremberg to Dortmund, if not directly with the A39? But because the aircraft is stationed in Munich, as it is needed there. That is the reason why they fly so many legs. It is indeed the issue that the aircraft first flies from Munich to Nuremberg, a route that we would normally cover by bus, right? But the plane just has to go there. Then it continues that one flies on from the place Nuremberg to Dortmund. The whole flight somehow lasted exactly thirty-six minutes, as Flightradar says, and when one then landed in Dortmund, the national team’s plane flew back to Munich, then to go on line. And the scheduled flight was not operated from Dortmund, but from Munich. Therefore, he had to go to Munich. I think it was Valencia or something, where he then flew. And then it is so that the aircraft then made a positioning flight to Nuremberg and yes, in the evening we then went to Naples. That’s how it was, not Valencia, it was Naples. Lufthansa needs the place. And yes, to pick them up, you would have to do something again. Yes, you have to get the plane to Dortmund, pack it in Dortmund, to Nuremberg, get the people out in Nuremberg, and then from Nuremberg to Munich. So, for two flights needed, there are four positioning flights, four. It’s almost like with the Bundeswehr, which basically picks up our politicians in Berlin. They always fly from Bonn or Cologne Bonn, you have to say exactly, to Berlin and pick them up there. There are also other cases where green ministers have sent planes somewhere in the world, then flown in that country, but officially flown on a scheduled service, to say, hooray hooray, we are so green, but that was not the case. Yes, the team will be picked up after the game against Denmark. And now comes the highlight, and now, I don’t want to withhold this from you. One does not want to impose journeys by bus and train on the players. Be careful. Shortened regeneration cycles in the final phase are not physiologically sensible and appropriate. The risk of muscular injuries substantially increases with seated transportation of more than an hour. So the flights take thirty-six minutes, maybe forty, and it affects health. Now you can say what you think about it and what you think of it. Should the national team travel by ICE and maybe risk not arriving punctually for the game? Or is it just the way with Lufthansa that it’s done? Why I mention this is for two reasons. First, of course, because the contribution has been sent to me by one of you who wanted the topic to be addressed. And the other reason is, of course, if you want to have the greenest games here in Europe, then flying, I believe, is not so green. So that’s where you can see how the whole thing is sick. And because Lufthansa is the sponsor, Lufthansa pays for everything, and thankfully there are currently no environmental surcharges, otherwise they would have had to pay an extra euro per route. Or is it the Business Class of the flight? So many questions that one then asks, eh. So you can answer to what extent you say whether the national team should take the ICE. The second topic we have today is also a topic that has potential. And that is the British Airways and the potential of the story thereafter. So let’s start with the first story chronologically. The Triple 7 from British Airways was on its way from London Gatwick and we all know that London Gatwick is the airport. You can indeed take off from a taxiway, which then functions as a replacement runway, a tricky thing. It might be interesting for some airlines that sometimes take off from such taxiways. Would not be the first time. In any case, it is so that the aircraft had the rejected take-off, is twenty-five years old. The reason for the rejected take-off was not mentioned, but the whole thing then had a kind of cascade, they call it, I would say domino effect, that due to twenty minutes the runway was blocked there, for example, a plane from Emerids, the A380, which should land in Great, landed in Brussels. Or also a plane from British Airways, and that will be important later, landed in Heathrow. So when you see the single runway with three thousand three hundred sixteen meters, that is of course a problem, because you really can’t do anything. And you can really see that the landing should have been at twenty minutes past twelve, it was close to that. So the plane was naturally blocked, yes, it was immobilized. It was then driven away, rolled away. But because it wasn’t said why it was there, the runway must be checked. That takes time. The fire brigade checks and so on and so forth. Priority and dedicated Airbot fire Service. And it is also said that the rejected take-off was a measure for safety reasons. I can understand that, it makes sense. Now let’s see what we do next with the issue, because if we continue to look at the issue, then it will be quite funny. Among the colleagues who were stranded there was Boris Johnson’s father. And Boris Johnson is well known, I would say, not just for his blonde men, to put it that way. If we now look at what happened there. He once came on the plane, specifically the BA26 forty-one in Malaga, Spain, which took off at eleven thirty-five. And that was exactly the window where the flights were diverted. And then instead of landing at Gatwick, although he circled there and so on, he went to London, probably low on fuel. Because they just wanted to refuel and the A320, twenty-one, sorry, twenty-one was then supposed to go back to Gatwick. But, and now people are reporting that Johnson and another passenger insisted on leaving the plane. And yes, what happens then? Then the police have to come and so on and report. And a passenger told The Independent. But Stanley Johnson, that’s the father. I didn’t know that his name is Stanley. And yes, as a result, the slot was gone. British Airways had to sort things out a bit, had to see how to get a plane from London Hezrow to Gatwick. But since that didn’t work out, I also think that the crew was eventually exhausted, so they canceled the whole thing. And so the flight was over for everyone, and instead of landing in Gatwick, they landed in Heesvo. There are worse things, at least one was already on the island, had completed the majority of the journey. But that’s how it was, that they didn’t take the Airbus, but the regular bus, that British Airways started for the people. It was also important and interesting this diplomatic note from British Airways, I would like to formulate it for you. Yes, so in that respect, they then referred to the incident in Gatrik, where the airport was closed, and then simply terminated the flight. But they didn’t say why, how, or for what reason. But that was the reason, because Boris’s father caused a commotion there. So not only his son is a troublemaker. Can one say that? Well, at least he is known for not being a wallflower, let’s put it that way. Probably not rampaging in the classical sense, but oh well. One topic where you probably go wild is the Airbus A380. Many of you love it, many of you don’t care at all, and others simply say they find it ugly. This was evident in the naming of Lufthansa, which was also one of the biggest marketing blunders, where someone wanted the customers to name the plane and the customers chose something silly, so it wasn’t pursued. You can comment below which name that was, I would appreciate that. So. But the story is as follows, and one really has to put the whole thing into perspective. And the chance of a return of the A380 is very, very low, according to the colleague from the Airbus civil division responsible for it. They say they are looking at the whole thing. Carsten Spohr said that the A380 will not come back. That was in the summer of twenty twenty-one. Now he would like more than he has, because he has already sold them and the spare parts scavengers only get the eight. But they are being used. They are even used in such a way that the Business Class is renewed. Many other airlines have also put them back into service. Of course, one reason is naturally that the planes are needed because there are no others. So that means, in times of need, desperate times call for desperate measures or something like that, as they say. And so it continued that now really, after delivering the last unit in December twenty-one, Airbus naturally keeps an eye out. And Atnern Kazim, who also said that one dreams of an A380 Neo, but the problem remains the same. So that means, the problem remains unchanged. The aircraft is a fuel guzzler compared to the other planes that exist. It is also partially too large for many routes. Only Emerids really dreams of it and that’s why it would be really exciting to see what happens if Airbus comes up with a proposal, not just with this Plus story, where more seats were added with the Neo, where then different engines were hung underneath, which ultimately failed at Rolls Royce because Rolls Royce did not want to rely solely on Emerids. And maybe there will eventually be a solution where the A380 flies with two engines. Personally, when I imagine it like that, closing my eyes, A380, two engines, looks a bit silly. But there is currently no such engine. So if you were to hang the Triple-7 engines underneath now, the thrust wouldn’t be enough. And we also have to honestly say, I don’t find it visually appealing. I think four engines are somehow more symmetrical, also provide security, but that’s how you reach your destination again. And what do you really think about the topic? Because the issue is the four engines. The statement was from colleague Scherer, I believe, exactly Christian Scherer, who said, the door is closed, it’s not locked. Does that mean she might really come or is that an overinterpretation? And I’m curious to hear what you have to say about it, whether the Eighty-Three will come like that or if there will be a successor that has nothing to do with the Eighty-Three, but still has a similar size. This is where you come in. We will now address the question of the day again, which are indeed questions of the day. The questions of the day are, should the A380 come back with two engines? And the national football team, should they rather travel by ICE or fly with Lufthansa? You can also give sporty answers. I already said the first one, if they had taken the ICE, they might not have arrived at the game on time. So, it’s your turn. I thank you for being here again today with Freak and Traveller TV. Remember to subscribe to the channel, turn on the bell, leave a like, and see you tomorrow, stay fresh. So, until then. Bye, bye and credits for you.
