[Music] well we come out to very very large Brant this morning it covers multiple blocks we’re in perga and it’s Kon Angela’s well sorry it’s Angela’s first time to Bron we took k out in brand home and uh Steve has gone to park so it may hours before we see him again and Kate and Angela are there in the red pink and we’ve made it this far we’ve made it a half a block in to uh a brok hont that covers multiple blocks and I think they’ve just bought something but they’re so engrossed I can’t even get them to tell me if they bought there we go we we B already we made it a half a block before you bought something I did Welcome to a dangerous world of Broan yeah let me show you oh s are they great yeah I love the shape that’s awesome you found us I did find you my goodness this place is huge holy crap it goes on for blocks and blocks and blocks all the vendors we’ve ever seen are all here here right but it’s all right there’s uh there’s a lot to see I mean just walking here from where I parked the car yeah see just a fraction it’s going to be quite a day yeah welcome to paru [Music] we have stopped uh for a nice little snack for in in our Market day and um unfortunately we came to a restaurant that doesn’t have lunch service so we had to you know submit to waffles and preps and all good sweet stuff but as you do in France [Music] all right we’ve had some good deals today but I think you just found the uh ultimate one for you right the day so I got this roll of P to and it’s actually velvet lined on the back got this detail on the front and this roll was one whole year old yeah amazing yeah fantastic forward to seeing what you do with that one yeah should be fun what did you find Kate oh my God those are awesome the best part is they come in their own travel I think so those are spectacular [Music] okay so we came to this Brook hun knowing that we’d have Temptation however we did not expect to see something this pretty and uh um yeah I think we’re going to make a terrible decision and buy it it is a stunning stunning piece though wood on it is gorgeous even the glass the mirror is in excellent condition and it’ll look wonderful in one of the guest rooms so we are we are going to do it did you miss my voiceovers I’m sure you did uh just my little shout out for pero which is a really cool very very old city it was a city before the Romans were here it was a Golic City um and it’s regularly got lovely things going on it’s got a really pretty old center of town because it’s the capital they’ve got a lot of uh festivals going on and then of course there is the Cathedral of s front which has been there for well over a thousand years um one of those Cathedrals that was built upon previous temples and previous places of worship in this world of over tourism I just wanted to give a little shout out to our capital city of peraga [Music] even the doors are just so cool it’s so nice a look at that that’ss mine love it I think for sure we come back yeah yes it’s beautiful even when this is cheek to jowl [Music] you’re sitting and sketching and drinking your wine in front of the chatau how lovely is that huh be any better on a beautiful day fantastic cheers of course then it was time to say goodbye to Kate and Angela but they’ll be back in October and again in 2025 so anybody who wants to join in check our newsletter when our wonderful chefs Megan and Valerie are here cooking for the Retreats they of course use this table as their main working surface um we are a little tight for um counter space in this kitchen so um this becomes the primary prep St station for all the food um but they made a suggestion to us uh last time that this is a bit low and I know for myself when I’m cooking meals in here that I also find this surface a bit low if you’re doing a lot of work on here you do eventually feel it in your back so um we’re going to try and solve that problem so we will eventually redesign this kitchen it is in the works sometime down the road you know money and time depending but um we are going to completely reconfigure this and make it a much more functional space however for now we need to uh make things a little more com for everybody so I’ve done a very simple solution I went and bought a MDF laminated mvf P vo 18 mil should be good and sturdy um the L that on here is nice and clean it should be easy to keep clean um and disinfect with the plastic coating and essentially all I’m going to do is raise it up with some feet so I bought these legs that have a little screw in foot so we can change the heights as necessary uh and really at the what all I’m going to do is essentially just screw these on and I bought seven of them just because I want to make sure that this is good and sturdy like so screw that down flip it over and then we’ve got a surface that everybody can work on that’s a little higher up um and we can adjust it as well the other Advantage is it does give us then a double height you know it’s about 15 mm sorry 15 cm so you know you can put things underneath here as well so let’s get this put together and I’ll show you the results [Music] [Music] so there you have it pretty straightforward seven legs nice and tight they’re not going anywhere so it’s just a matter of flipping this over and we should have a much better surface for cutting on much better height in fact I’m already feeling this is much better it feels nice and sturdy we’re good to go [Music]

Let’s head out for a BIG brocante in Perigueux, and see our local towns through fresh eyes with Kate & Angela.

Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

  1. Featherweight machines are very desirable among my quilting friends. I have one! They are very easy to service yourself and great to take to a class. I belong to a local Quilt Guild and we have over 125 members! 🧵🪡✂️

  2. I know you've heard a million suggestions regarding the table….have you thought about castor wheels. They come in a huge variety of shapes, heights and colors. You could easily raise the table up, lock the castor wheels in place and move the table around like an island.

  3. My friend and I were talking about her Little Singer Sewing machine. We curious as to what vendor was selling it for. Her appraisal was somewhere around $2k and maybe more. Her’s has attachments and original storage boxes. It’s a sweet little thing

  4. How do you find out about these street brocants or other events? Where do they advertise? This is what I want whenever I get to go to France.

  5. I learned to sew on my Mom's Featherweight she got as a wedding gift in January 1945. I still have it and it's still my favorite! I only have 3 machines

  6. I have Sara's fetish for sewing machines, and have three featherweights as well as two of the card tables that hold them (I know, I should be embarassed); and several other machines. That 222K is so rare and I'm curious to know the price they were asking (as are many others in the comments!)

  7. What a beautiful little town where the brocante was held. I enjoyed the history that you shared.
Steve-great job on making an innovative, flexible working space.

  8. Looks like a great brocante! I love those little bands that pop up and play jazz and the like. I used to see them pop up at unexpected times in Toulouse when I lived there, and in Fontainebleau. Don't see them as much in my tiny town in western France, but they do show up for parades! At the ones in Toulouse you'd see people spontaneously start dancing in the street or clapping along, right in the middle of a work day. That was one of those moments when I felt "you're not in the US anymore!", and I love it. Great work on the table, totally agree about the height, just looking at a low work table makes my back ache! And I'm sure that dressing table will look great in one of your rooms.

  9. Hi Steve, not sure if mdf is the same in france but many countries have banned it, if i remember correctly it was found to have dangerous particles. Not sure if it is food safe. It may need sealing, but certainly would be worth investigating. A quick bit of looking showed it is to do with the resin that binds the particles together that once cut release formaldehyde. It also needs to be moisture resistant if being used in the kitchen. This is what i found for australia. Sorry if it doesn't apply to france.

  10. Thanks for the Peregaux trip and Sarlat, I have been there and enjoyed being there again. The Brocante was wonderful I coud go crazy in France seeing all the items I can't take home. I did ma ave some though next time an empty suitcase will help! Thanks.
