Every time England are involved in a major football tournament the Kirby Estate, Bermondsey, London goes above and beyond with their patriotic display of England flags. This spectacle is often featured on national TV and it was my pleasure to visit on a recent trip to London. Keep up the good work Kirby Estate, it is much appreciated, well done.
This video includes five clips of iconic commentary from England games from the last 50 years, how many can you remember!
From the Kirby Estate Go Fund Me page:
Hi!
We are the Kirby Estate in Bermondsey SE16. Some say, England’s most patriotic estate…..
Displaying our flag in support for our country and football team has been our passion for over 10 years. It all started back in 2012 with one resident displaying a single St George flag, then another followed and before we knew it the whole estate was adorned with flags! These people are now known as “Flag Ninjas!”
We have been known to display over 700 full sized flags across the whole estate. It takes a whole lot of time, hard work and contributions from our residents, but it’s worth it. We are able to host fantastic community days where we can provide food, drinks, music, entertainment and most importantly, the football games on our big screen!
We absolutely love meeting people from all over the country (sometimes the world!) who come to visit us and we really want to continue putting on a great display for our football team in this year’s Euros.
We are very often asked if there is a way to donate, this is not something we had ever considered, until now. The cost of flags has trebled and are so difficult to find at low prices, so if you would like to help out, we would be so grateful!
We will of course keep our socials up to date with pictures and videos, where you can see the progress we are making and what is coming next, everyone is welcome at the Kirby Estate so please come and visit us, if you can!
Thank you so much in advance!
