A Day in Zadar’s Old Town – Must-See Attractions & Delicious Food! | Croatia
hi my name is Olivia and this is my trip to Croatia in today’s video I will explore zad’s Old Town a place rich in history and culture with its ancient Roman ruins and Charming medieval streets I will visit the top attractions try the local food and enjoy the Lively atmosphere that makes Zar such a great destination I wish you could see on camera how beautiful this is in real life [Music] [Applause] good morning from zadar Croatia and from this beautiful airbm balcony this is my first time traveling to zadar and also my first time in Croatia which only means one thing it is time for the crazy packed tourist itinerary so today I’m going to visit the top attractions in zadar and tell you what I think about everything give you a little bit of information and also tell you what’s worth visiting and what I might not like as much and just take you with me while exploring the town so without further Ado let’s go so let me give you a tour of the Airbnb this is the entrance and on the left we have this dining area and then here is a small kitchen and what’s amazing about this kitchen is this coffee machine and the coffee filter where I have never seen a coffee machine like this in an Airbnb ever so that for me already makes the Airbnb worth it and then here we got many things if we want to cook something it’s very well equipped we got a blender on top of the coffee machine I really am impressed the flat from this angle and then here we have an open space with the dining [Music] room this also becomes a bed I really really love how it’s decorated here we got some storage and cleaning products and here we got the bedroom pretty simple and cozy we got robes which is really nice again for an Airbnb and then the reason why we actually rented this Airbnb is this balcony look how nice this is and this is the bathroom again very nice we have now come to the city center and the first destination and the start of our itinerary that I found on the internet is the landgate here you can already see the old town this place where reminds me of the south of France with an Eastern European vibe to it if I had to compare it to something and the weather is [Music] perfect so I can see the entrance to the old Center haven’t been here before so let’s see what we find this looks like a nice view [Music] oo look at this nice spot we just entered the old Center and it’s already really Lively and nice and we’re now looking for a place to have breakfast lunch brunch so we’ll have a look and have something to eat and then we’ll start the itinerary from a gate we need to find so that’s the [Music] plan so we have come to the first restaurant we saw basically with this beautiful view of the square and it is time to try the first traditional dish this is black risoto I don’t actually know what’s in it it was on all the list of must try in Croatia M this is really good this is so good this is cutter fish oh my goodness this is so good if you come to Croatia you need to try this dish and you need to try this restaurant honestly because this is so good so yeah it’s cutter fish with um with the black um sauce you can find something like this in Italy as well I think I haven’t tried it anywhere else but this is absolutely amazing it’s got a seafood taste that’s not too strong and it’s very buttery really really nice dish and look at the view not a bad spot also the portions I had here in Croatia so far are huge I would be fine with just half of the meal but maybe other people eat more than me [Music] so we are starting our tour from the land gate which used to Mark the entrance into the old city of sadar and was designed in 1543 the landgate is a stunning piece of Renaissance architecture constructed in 1543 by the Renown Venetian architect Mikel an Meli its impressive Central Arch flanked by two side arches is adorned with intricate reliefs including the emblematic lion of St Mark symbolizing the Venetian rule this Majestic Gateway is is a proud reminder of sar’s Venetian Heritage reflecting the city’s historical significance as an important Maritime and cultural Hub in the Adriatic only one minute away from the gate is the square of the five Wells which is the second attraction on our itinerary constructed in the 16th century the square of the five Wells features five adjacent Wells that once served as a vital water source for the city during sieges located next to the medieval city walls the well are framed by beautifully preserved stonework and intricate [Music] Engravings our next destination is the illusion Museum we don’t really know what to expect we haven’t read anything about it but it sounds interesting we love the idea of this and this is 2minute walk from the previous Square [Music] [Applause] [Music] that was really fun I’m really happy we decided to see the illusion Museum it’s quite simple don’t expect something out of this world um but it was really fun it was like a fun break from the heat outside and uh now we’re going towards people Square which is our next stop on our random internet itinerary and if I haven’t mentioned this in the video I’m um I’m on a strip with my boyfriend Matt what you just saw in the museum footage this is lovely I love this and the weather was supposed to be really really bad today I just look at this [Music] I think I’m getting this book and I just saw um wondering if I should give it a try oh there’s just so much I love sers I just want to buy them all do you want some scented wishes from Croatia that’s honestly I just want to buy everything think look at these soaps oh my God okay on the win I think I wish I could send you the smow you know since I haven’t into to Catia before even though I knew about Dalmatian dogs I didn’t actually know that um Dalmatia was here like this is the area where zadar is the region goes all the way to the brnik I think and uh yeah I never I never wondered and I never knew you know how you normally learn the cities not the provinces regions in a country so that’s interesting [Music] ooh more souvenirs our next stop is the Z local market this should be an interesting place to visit although it looks maybe um the time maybe we should have been here maybe we should have been here earlier or um maybe on the weekend maybe they have specific days today is Tuesday so I guess we’re not visiting the market just when I mentioned that I really really wanted a fresh orange juice we see this shop that Lally specializes in orange juice that’s amazing let’s get an orange juice I’ve been waiting for this for so long this is so good with the apple and the orange and now the next destination is the Roman Forum which I’m looking forward to it’s one of my main interests and look how nice this looks I think this is the water here right yeah yeah look at this this old Center is so nice I’m loving the atmosphere and it’s really different from the rest of zadar so we not uh our oration is not in the center so and I said it was a mix of south of France and Eastern Europe that’s just outside the old Center the old Center reminds me of maybe Malta yeah the old Center is really where this is where everything is really really really nice I can see the water dating back to the 1st Century BC The Forum in zadar was the vibrant Center of Civic life during Roman times surrounded by impressive ruins of columns and temples it stands as a testament to s’s pivo role as a Roman Colony known as Colonia Yulia yader [Music] the forum’s layout includes the ancient Basilica of St donatus this well preserved circular building originally used used as a church is the largest pre-romanesque building in [Music] Croatia today the Basilica of St donatus serves as a venue for concerts due to its exceptional Acoustics attracting both locals and tourists [Music] [Music] how many stairs later we’re not there yet because there are more stairs there are more stairs here oh wow look at that we’re finally there yay look that [Music] [Music] [Music] that’s the Roman forum and now we just came here by the water everyone’s enjoying the lovely weather some people are swimming and um the last thing on the list is the sea orgon which are going to visit soon and we kind of finished our itinerary did pretty well we did not visit two museums one is the archaeological Museum and the other one is the Glass Museum or ancient Glass Museum uh we’re not sure if we’re going to visit them just because they didn’t seem like something of interest to us um but we’re going to think about it anyway like how nice this is this is so nice people are swimming look at this water I don’t know if you can see it on camera but it’s perfect this is a perfect spot to relax after visiting the old Center I’m so sorry I didn’t bring my swimsuit because I see everyone just jumping in the water and enjoying everything and it would have been nice for me to be able do the same and then the sea Oregon which is the most famous attraction here on this kind of peninsula in the old town of zadar is somewhere here and that’s where we’re heading after taking a small break here and I’ll also look for um traditional dessert maybe I can find something and also stop and grab a drink somewhere [Music] I’m really loving zadar so far lovely atmosphere interesting things to visit this beautiful prominade and this is the famous sea organ this is also where a lot of people are [Music] we have now come to a dessert shop that was recommended by our host Airbnb host and this cake is called split cake and then there’s a second cake I’m going to try but I forgot its name looks really good M very interesting I like that it’s not too sweet I don’t even know what to compare it to it’s like a mix of bread and nuts and custard that’s how I would describe it and it’s not too sweet and it’s actually it’s actually really good it’s like buttery on a custard like a butter custard I have no idea how to describe these things but I love it and this is the second one this is very citrusy and sour and kind of sweet o there’s a very famous dessert and this tastes exactly like that but in the form of a cake M I used to have them in London yeah it tastes like orange it’s like orange spongy cake and it’s quite sweet and then with a chocolate glazed is like a Jaffa Cake yes that’s the word this is pure Jeffer cake as they didn’t even talk about as an actual cake yeah I like this one way better the split cake and now we’ve come to this Wine Garden and look at this entrance [Music] we have now come to this beautiful Terrace to try some local Croatian wine we got a glass of white and a glass of red and let’s see this is cion and Merlo from a region of Coria that I forgot it’s not my personal taste to be honest let me try the the white one as [Music] well again I I wanted to be more excited but honestly but anyway I’ll try another one later on and maybe I’ll find a local cheese that I’m supposed to try in K as well so yeah but this place is absolutely lovely and wine is a personal taste [Music] so we have now come for dinner at this place called leria 12 and it’s this a lovely Courtyard place which seems very local it’s full we only found one table that was just in front of us call that faith and let’s see what other traditional food we’re trying this place feels so local and nice there really is just something in the atmosphere that I’m living here I this is the dalmatian pruto with local cheese what is this thing on top of it Tomatoes oh don’t think I’ll be able to tell any difference between this and any other kind of [Music] fruto there is actually different this is not like Italian fruto it tastes a bit differently and the sunri tomatoes are really really good let me try the cheese as well really quickly so far 10 out of 10 and now the ooh okay so this is beef cooked in Pino Noir wine with noi this is a traditional uh Dalmation I think [Music] um really really good I don’t know if I would pair it I still love Yi as the main dish on its own with some sauce and I would rather eat the beef with vegetables instead of pairing them together so they’re really really really good uh but I’ll probably have them individually and I think I’ll prefer thei on their own with vegetables or some pasta sauce or just as a pasta dish just a personal opinion but the dish is really really nice the food is nice and they’re both well cooked between the blacko and the B go dishes I would definitely choose the black rotto that was way better for me and now it is time for our last attraction which is some solar powered light installation by the Sea where we went today to see the sea organ right next to it there’s the light installation and that will conclude a perfect day in zadar and the atmosphere now in the evening is so Lively and fun and I’m really happy we we waited this long in SAR center to see the lights this is so beautiful and Lively and I wish you could see on camera how beautiful this is in real life the atmosphere and The prominent is so lovely and these are the famous lights they do look really nice with the see and um and all the lights in the background however there are many people sitting on them so that’s not [Music] ideal this is actually really nice [Music] and this concludes my first day in sadar it was an absolutely lovely day I’m happy I got to visit everything I had such a great time I visited so many interesting places and I absolutely loved the atmosphere thank you so much for watching my video and I’ll see you in my next one bye

What a beautiful day, enjoy π
A fun, enjoyable day in Zadar. You and Matt had a nice walk around a clean, lively, and beautiful town. That squid ink risotto did look tasty. And β¦ yes β¦ the portions were huge! Even the cake slices were big! Costs relative to other Mediterranean countries? The special blue twilight on the quay did show on camera. Beautiful! Thanks for taking us with you.
Always very informative videos. Have you any plans to walk another Camino de Santiago, I recommend the Portuguese route along the coast and the Variente Espiritual
OMG Olive π« – watching this tour through Zadar was such a treat – I'm already completely in love with the town! I have so much to say!! π€£
Let me start at the beginning: your airb&b looks outstanding… I don't even dare to ask about the price… Matt seems to have the perfect job for travelling in style with a reasonable budget and enjoy luxury accommodation! PS. so nice to see him just randomly for a bit – very satisfying… π
the town is very pleasant – not over-sophisticated, rather simple and beautiful in its charm; and not over-touristy & over-crowded! I felt relaxed looking around… even the pavements looked comfortable to walk on… the museum of illusions was sweetly filmed and fun to watch! …really nice how you show and describe the food, and how much you enjoy it… the black risotto seems to be a 'must'. (I'll remember that, if I ever visit!).π₯π₯«
I again and again was aware of the ambient music, that you were underlying the footage with – so well done, Olive – its really worthwhile to mention!! πΆπ΅
The atmosphere at the sea was gorgeous, and even with more people there, it still felt relaxed – a perfect holiday destination to me! And when the sun started to go down and turn into night it felt dreamlike and magical… ππ π
I've watched your journey of you-tubing now from your first day on the 'frances', and I can see how you improve and learn, feel more and more comfortable… the filming gets better and better… this video deserves instead of a 1.000, rather 100.000 watchers, and it will come, Olive… it will come, just continue like this… I'm always so delighted, when I see a new video of yours showing up! Looking now forward to day 2 in Zadar!
