Hiking Trails – Germany, Saxon Switzerland National Park – Hirschgrund Canyon Hike
hi everyone today I would like to try myself a very interesting Trail which uh which is called h grun w h grun w yeah and um it’s supposed to be going through a very deep Canyon uphill all the time uphill toward watchs uh busty mountains busty rocks so let’s try it see you for for very steep yeah the trail here very Steep and it’s uh kind of wild not uh well maintained I’m going down because I took a wrong trail so it turns right to the bus rocks and I need to go straight and slowly up here and this one was really really at the beginning very steep and D so I’m trying to correct [Music] myself I see there is a trail and much better condition maybe it is my trail I hope so yeah looks like a highway the trail which is marked by kind of white scent or Ash I don’t know what is this but it’s quite visible it’s going slowly up here to the G here’s grunt can GR yeah there is kind of Trail F I see three Trails come together at this point one is following right and another is going back to Al River this one and uh this one is going through the canyon I guess I go this one okay see you for for for if you can see on my hiking map this is where I am and I just passed the tri to the left and right and going into this direction up here it’s very quiet right here you can hear how flies are noisy around there is kind of small cave not very deep but one can hide from the wind rain and other disasters and it’s here Sandy even with some benches made of Rock it’s kind of U black inside I guess it’s a ash from the smoke probably people used to make uh fireplace here some time ago probably before National Park was established cuz now it’s forbidden anywhere yeah yeah nice yeah I didn’t tell you that at the beginning of the trail at the trail head the trail is very very steep so I had to use my two hands to basically climb the trail no walk but but climb and it was not possible to to record with a camera so sorry guys no video shoot there but uh yeah please uh remember that the trail head and the first 100 maybe 200 M before you get to this kind of Canyon Plateau is very very steep unbeli but doable yeah one can do it there is a very high tower of uh Sandstone Rock very high and probably can be used for and used for clan professional CL and probably why there is a cave here at the foot of the rock that you can KN there so there’s a marcka as a trail but the trail is easy here to find it’s well Thro them and sometimes it’s with a white scent or white ash I don’t know what is that yeah very beautiful yeah there is a two Trails come together at the trail F so I have to figure out which way I should go set your up here yeah I have to take a right Trail because the left trail goes to the kind of cuming Rock and that’s it no further Trail so I have to go this one up here for e for oh the trail become very Rocky this big bulos and the passage is really really narrow now you can you can see yourself it’s a dog way not for man I’m kidding but it looks like a lot of big boulders okay let’s see what will be the next unbelievable such a Canon Jesus Christ look at this I’m not sure how I can Comm it this is so steep yeah this Canon is much steeper than the G Canyon nearby I don’t even know whether I can climb it further to the air so and very very steep but I try my best woo [Music] yeah this passage was pure climbing no hiking anymore I had to put my gloves Mari here and step almost vertical this one was vertical but there are some steps and there are some handles people made so you just have to be careful and that’s it okay I am almost out of this gum I hope the steepest but I made it look at this incredible yeah and what is left it’s just here maybe 50 m up so the r part of this uh H grun Canyon is uh around twice shorter than nearby uh G gr Canyon so but because it’s shorter it’s again twice steeper so consider that be prepared and uh take a care see you up upstairs Joe for for such a canyon here GR for o okay I am on the top unbelievable so guys I made it I wasn’t sure up to the end that I will do it so difficult but the good part is that yeah it’s shorter yeah at many parts of um of this Canyon climbing unfortunately I could not record because there I have to pay full attention so where I put my hands so where I put my food and to keep balance and to record it’s impossible so probably one has to carry a camera somewhere here on the top but uh it will come it will come in the future so to conclude what I can say so this this Canyon is um yeah very wild it’s less thoen for sure it’s uh kind of more difficult as I said before it’s uh I would say it’s less picturesque as a Canon nearby as a guys gr Canyon at least to me so the G grun Canyon is is twice longer and it’s easier it’s more troen the trail is is better kept so and it’s more like uh you can make a lot of pictures there actually I spent there two hours in just imagine 1 kilometer of this Canon gra Canon and I was there for 2 hours of course I was walking but very slowly because every two steps I stopped I did some pictures I put my triod uh I did some uh footage video footage and then I also did some uh pictures panoramic pictures which I like to to make and therefore it took me two hours to make it oh a lot of flies actually guys be careful here yeah a lot of flies and one of them is just sitting on my camera and these flies they either horse flies or they deer flies or they black flies and all of them are blood sucking flies so if they sit on your skin they make a very fast uh small incision and leak your your blood and before that they will put uh a lot of anti-coagulants and analgetics that you don’t feel it at all so uh keep in mind that uh it could be dangerous especially for black flies and horseflies because they transmit uh some pathogens either viruses or bacteria and um it could be nasty so this bacteria you as like this lime lime disease you have to be for a week or more on uh antibiotics and Vis A viral yeah it could be even worse so as you see I put today some uh fles which uh cannot be inist by flice so it keep me not only warm it’s actually very warm I’m very thirsty and uh sweaty because of this uh f and but then it keeps flies out so I can be sure that they cannot stink me somewhere on the neck or on my back protects me so I guess uh yeah I will make a a video soon and we’ll post it on YouTube keep updated Full walk over a Hirschgrund Canyon Trail, plus, some climbing big rocks and boulders at the trail, near Bastei sandstone rock pillars, between Stadt Wehlen and Kurort Rathen small villages at the Elbe river bank.
Hirschgrund trail: 0.6 km (0.4 mi), 170 m uphill.
To get here, take a local S1 train from Dresden to Stadt Wehlen, then a ferry (Deutschland Ticket is valid).
