What’s it really like to cycle over the Pont de Normandie ?

If you are cycling the Velo Maritime route or need to get from Le Havre to Honfleur (or vis versa) , then at some point you will have to cross one of Europe’s largest bridges the Pont de Normandie !

Starting from La Havre, I ride through the city’s industrial port towards the towering cable-stayed bridge. With breathtaking views of the Seine estuary, cycling across the bridge is both thrilling and challenging—wind gusts, high speed traffic, and steep inclines test every cyclist. But the rewards are worth it, as the ride ends in the beautiful port town of Honfleur. Join me on this unforgettable journey!

  1. Rode that bridge 2 years ago in the opposite direction. After reading up on options (the bus you mentioned which needed reservations at least a day in advance; and there is a ferry quite a bit upstream as well if I recall correctly), and reading some forums on others experiences on crossing the bridge I decided to use the roadway rather then the very narrow footpad.
I found it less harrowing than the routebook I was using made it to be, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart. Also i would definitely advise to try to find a time when traffic volume will be lower.
The height and the incline you mentioned combined with the traffic makes it something to dread, but after reaching the top I felt I made the right decision, and actually had a giggle having to go through the tolll booth building (where you entered the bridge).
I did enjoy the area between Le Havre and the bridge as well, going from nature to huge harbour installation until you get into town.
Found the Velo Maritime as a whole a very nice route indeed.
    Tailwinds!
