Exploring Paphos (Pafos): Old Town & Archaeological Site Adventure! ποΈπ¨πΎ
Hello, today we are going to Paphos city, are you excited? Let’s see how it looks like. What is there? The weather is very nice, it’s not too hot today, it’s around 27 degrees so hopefully we’ll stay like this. Although it’s quite humid and we have an ambitious class walk to old city which is, I don’t know how many kilometers. I don’t know but it’s about one hour walk, so about 5 kilometers probably. But we were asking yesterday and apparently something like, it’s kind of uphill, that’s what they say, the locals they were not that keen into walking so they recommended either taking the bus or a taxi but we really have the whole day to go and explore so let’s have a look and let’s do that. I didn’t learn a bit and I didn’t take a half. It’s not that hot, it’s like 28 degrees today but the humidity factor is a little bit high here so worst case scenario, we can always come back or take a bus or call a taxi. Yeah, let’s go. It’s very well signalized so we are going to UNESCO archaeological site in Paphos. And this is 3 kilometers from our hotel from Athena beach so it’s not that far away. And then we will also try to go to the harbor which will be another 3.5 kilometers. Maybe we can take some transport from there. of the town and we can see some nice houses that they look like more local or actually probably they are like houses that you can rent for a holiday if you don’t want to stay in a resort. Maybe that’s another option that the town provides so maybe it’s good to investigate probably in some websites like probably booking.com or something like that. I can see that this house for example is for rent so probably it’s cool. If you don’t need the all inclusive and you can just walk to the beach probably something like this is something cool to consider if you are traveling with the whole family and you don’t want your holiday to cost 20,000 euros or more probably something cool. So they have a active spirit in the gardens and some little monkey. Now the sun is really up and it’s actually way too hot to walk. I had to buy a hat because it’s so hot. It is hot. But not that hot as it was before. It’s only 28 degrees but I think humidity makes it here like really bad. So apparently we found some ruins. It must be this archaeological site but what is it exactly? I don’t know because it looks like still under some renovation. Remaining of columns. They just put them away. They just put them away. They’re kind of renovating the whole place. That looks like a church as well. So they are bridges just to walk among the ruins. And here you can rest in a shadow. Very nice. But it’s not even finished. They are just building this walk path. This is apparently some early Christian basilica of Christo Poliza. Wow, what a sanctuary. I think now the way to a castle I think that’s what it is. It’s an archaeological site here in Paphos. We are also here near to the harbor marina. What is this tower? Tower clock. I don’t know. It’s written in Greek. Looks like this archaeological site is quite big. Honestly speaking, look it goes totally in there. Yes, it’s quite big. Nea Paphos archaeological site. Nea Paphos. Okay. Does it mean like a new Paphos in some… Yeah, problem. So look. So on this Arctic this ground. Yes. Let’s go. And how do you feel today with this weather actually? It’s so hot. Look, I can see the ruins under there. The clouds. We can go that way. We can take a shortcut. I think we’ve got lucky with a little bit of clouds. Yes, that’s true. Do you remember in a stone hint we got lucky, we got sun because it was pretty cold. But in here it’s way, way too hot. So we can see the ruins from here. It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity. It’s posed in here on this historical site like an egg on the pan. You can start seeing here some diggings. A little bit of shadow. Oh yeah, this is the mosaic that the lady from a jewelry shop was taking a boat. And this is from a fourth century. And in here it’s the feeling like in a desert. So hot. Yeah. Nope, they have another mosaic. It’s so hot. [Music] It’s burning. Very hot today. This is to remind ourselves in cold winter days how it was holiday in Paphos. In only 28 degrees, it’s burning. But if you come to this site, it’s a lot of walking, so bring comfortable shoes. Because a lot of… yeah, hot and water. Because this is really a lot of walking. And the sun is just on top. It’s very hot still. And we are in September. If you come in the summertime, the month of June till end of August, probably the heat is unbearable. They say that it reaches almost 45 degrees. Plus sometimes. You cannot walk here. There is really not a lot of places where to hide from the sun, like a shadow shelter or something. So really keep it in mind. Bring a lot of water and your walking shoes. So now it’s this part of the town. You can see that this is very commercial in here. It’s like a downtown… marketing downtown. I don’t know. But it’s close to the harbor and close to this archaeological site. So you can see that also here there are some hotels that they face… the beach as well. You can see that there are also some apartments that probably you can rent. But there are convenience because they are literally above the shops. Yeah. And you can just come and buy anything. There are a lot of restaurants and bars as well. So it’s a nice part of the town. Where we are staying is a little bit more isolated from all the shops. There are some, but it’s more for the resource area. So you have everything included. So basically the people that they go for, they are all-inclusive. Rarely they go out for any restaurants because what for, right? Some people they do because they get bored of everything. They want to try something different. But here it’s nice. So if you come to this hotel or any of the resources in the area, you can use one today to come explore. You can walk. It’s actually walking distance. But bear in mind the heat might be really strong humidity-wise as well. So you might opt to take the bus or even a taxi. I don’t know how much would it cost. Probably 20 euros. I think now I can see, you know what we did? Look, because this is our hotel is this way and we were crossing the street and we made all this. That’s true. We just crossed in there and we made a huge look. But it was because we were looking at the downtown, which is completely on the other side. Yeah, and we found this also this small archaeological site, but we are actually quite close to the hotel. It was a big circle. But with the heat, it was a terrible idea. Very cool, terrible idea. Don’t make the same mistake. Just go with the same path that just comes from the hotel. Take a bus. And if you are a walking person, it’s not just take the bus or take a taxi. The heat is also exhausting, no? It is exhausting. It’s the humidity. The humidity completely drowns me. And if you have some conditions, it can be also dangerous. So yeah. But you are right. I remember this. All right. See you back at the hotel. Soon. Soon.
