Our cruise up the Ryan River has reached the Ryan River Valley in southern Germany. This is the location of some of the most famous and romantic towns and cities in all of central Europe. And today in this video, we’re going to visit H Highleberg, go over into France and see the beautiful city of Strawburg, visit romantic Fryberg, and then we’ll end up in Basil. And we’re even going to toss in a view or a visit rather to the famous Majino line in France. We’re in mines starting out a new day off on a new adventure to H Highleberg. Let’s get on a bus for the ride down to H Highidleberg with a bit of a history lesson. Entirey of the empire and cities like mines like Aan so Cologne um and Tria. So cities that are large and populous even in modern day western Germany they date back to Roman times. And we’re in H Highleberg now and we’ve reached the Schllo Hidleberg or rather the H Highleberg Castle which sits on a hill overlooking the city of H Highleberg down in the valley. This is the central courtyard of the castle. You can’t miss the bell tower or the glocken turn. Now, if you’re a really resourceful tourist, they’ll go underneath the castle and you’ll find a whole warn of wine seller tunnels with a giant wine cask in the middle. We’re viewing central H Highleberg from the castle. That’s the Neker River right down there. And you can see the historic bridge going right out of downtown. It’s time we pay a visit to Central High. So, let’s go down there and take a walk along the hops, the main street going right through downtown. 471. Yeah. Time to leave H Highleberg. We’re back on our bus heading down towards the Ryan River and our cruise boat. And look, crew teams are practicing in the Neker River. Back on the boat. Time for a little relaxation. And tomorrow we’ll be on to our next adventure. Strawber is a few tens of miles south of H Highleberg. And unlike all the other cities on our tour, Strawburg is in France. And you know something, it even feels like Paris. It just has that French look. Strawber of course is the site of the European Union Parliament. But what really struck me were the beautiful canals in the old petite France section of town. The vibe of the French canals just makes you feel good. And so do the other little surprises you see in Frostber. like this little statue. Now, let’s take a stroll into downtown Strawburg. What was that huge church ahead? Why? That was the Strawber Cathedral. Let’s take a look. France, but then in he came here and he saw all the angels in our Our visit to Strawburg is just about over. We’re getting on the bus here and now crossing the river back to our tour boat. Let’s finish the day with another great dinner courtesy of the Avalon tour line. It’s the next day, ready for another trip. this time to the town of Fryberg, a historic German town on the edge of the Black Forest. The thing that strikes you about Fryberg is just how German it looks. Very different from the French vibe of Strawburg. But our guide is here to show us that it’s more than just German buildings. This town has some very quirky features, just like these little canals along the sides of the roads. Drainage ditches, really. It’s really a beautiful, romantic little city. One that I think you’ll enjoy. We certainly did. Up ahead there’s the Fryberg Cathedral. Why don’t we take a look inside? Oh no, just as it’s time to leave, a rainstorm. Better hurry over to the bus and we’ll ride it on back down to the boat. Back on the Avalon cruise boat, we’ll take a quick break in the lounge and then be on to our next adventure, the Mino line. The French built the line of fortresses known as the Minino line just before World War II to keep the Germans out. They spent a trillion dollars on the project in today’s US money. It didn’t work, of course. The Germans went around the line, but the old fortresses in many places are still there. And today we are going to visit some Just like the mor this emergency exit didn’t serve any purpose because there was there was no forced penetration by the enemy in there during combat and so the sand is still up there and it may have hardened as time goes by. Also on top of you, you can see a cable to the fork of the machine. We’re very often Now we’re going down to the central control room. The third one when Germany invaded Czechoslovakia to create the protector of Bo Mia in March 1939. And of course, the last one, when Germany invaded Poland the 1st September, 1939. We’ll take one last look at the big guns and then we’ll leave the fort and make our way back to the boat. Well, it’s time to get some food in the dining room on the boat. Then we’ll relax for a little while, go downstairs, and get some sleep in our stateateroom because now we’re going to leave the boat and go into our final destination, the Swiss city of Basil. Basil is at the south end of the Ryan River Valley in Switzerland. It’s where most of the river cruises up the Ryan River end. It’s the last stop people get off here and go into Switzerland. That’s what we will eventually be doing. So, we’ll say goodbye to our tour boat and head into town. Before we catch our train into Switzerland, we’ll stow our luggage. And the train station has these great automated storage lockers. We’ll just put our goods in there and then we can walk free through the streets from the train station. It’s an easy walk into town and it’s an old town with lots of curvy streets and lots of nice little restaurants. So, you can really spend a good deal of time exploring it before you have to come back for your train. We spent about 2 or 3 hours wandering the streets and finding something new around every corner. But now it’s time to catch a train. So, we’re going back to the train station and we’re going to head into Switzerland. And our adventure in the Ryan River Valley is over.
