프렌치 리비에라 #07 | 🇫🇷 지중해 최고의 색감! Villefranche-sur-Mer와 니스 근교 산책
Côte d’Azur The Mediterranean coast of southern France, also known as the “French Riviera.” Last summer, I traveled to Nice, and today is the 5th day, featuring footage of Villefranche-sur-Mer. After finishing our stroll in Èze, we are now traveling by TER train. Villefranche-sur-Mer is a small port town located between Èze and Nice, and it takes about 10 minutes by train, running along the coastline from Èze. The blue sea of the Côte d’Azur visible from the train window is beautiful, isn’t it? We have arrived. Villefranche-sur-Mer station, built on a cliff directly above the sea. Below the platform, an emerald-colored beach stretches out. This place is truly so beautiful that even the station looks picturesque. Going down from the station leads to Plage des Marinières. With a geography where the bay is encircled like this, and calm waves, many yachts are moored here. Wow, it has such a great atmosphere. The last time I visited, I went swimming at this beach, and those memories are still vivid today. As a port close to the coast and with deep waters, it is said to be a popular mooring spot for cruise ships. This town, where pastel-colored buildings harmonize, I believe it’s a scenery that would make you want to stop by even while sailing on a yacht. The train running along the cliff, seems to add rhythm to this quiet resort town. Perhaps that’s why it looks even more beautiful. Since it’s afternoon, there are shadows, but in the morning, you can see the dazzling emerald and cobalt blue waters, typical of the Mediterranean, sparkling brightly. It’s much quieter than Nice’s beaches, and I feel like there are more locals and families traveling here. It feels more like a “local’s everyday retreat” than a tourist destination. For those who want to take a leisurely stroll through a town in Southern France, I think this is the perfect spot. The train glides through the quiet sound of the waves. If you walk west from the station, it leads to the Old Port area. Colorful pastel-toned buildings line the port, and at dusk, the sunlight reflects off the restaurant terraces, creating a scene like a postcard. At night, only the yacht lights, quiet music, and the clinking of glasses resonate. It’s truly “a calm Riviera night” itself. Looking at the town from the port’s wooden deck, one of the town’s iconic accommodations, “Welcome Hotel,” comes into view. French artist Jean Cocteau reportedly stayed here. The stairway also featured in the works of painter Jacques Gilliot. Now, let’s explore the old town. The small alley leading to the port has a truly charming atmosphere. Small restaurants line both sides of the stairs, making me want to drink some wine at an outdoor table. And at the end of the road, you can see “Saint-Michel Church.” There’s a street running underneath the buildings like this, a structure where buildings are built over the road, rather than roads between buildings. This unique shape, is said to retain much of its medieval structure, and upon investigation, it was designed to protect against invaders, and also to provide coolness by avoiding direct sunlight. It was reportedly built around 1260, meaning it’s already over 700 years old. While it’s a tourist destination, locals still live here, making it a place where you can catch a glimpse of residents’ daily lives. It feels as if the buildings are connected to each other, and it’s said to have taken this form through extensions over many years. The alleys can give a slightly dark impression, but thanks to the bright and soft pastel colors of the buildings, it feels like a lovely and warm townscape straight out of a picture book. And the view of the port seen through the gaps in these narrow alleys, is truly beautiful. Wow, the sound of the church bells further enhances the atmosphere. What do you think this cat is trying to do? Hehe. It looks like it’s eyeing a pigeon! I feel like the colorful buildings mixed with the narrow alleys, must have been a scenery that painters wanted to capture on their canvases. As I walked, I found these small squares here and there, which seemed perfect for a little break. Sitting on a bench and looking at the surrounding buildings, imagining what it would feel like to live here, my stroll through the old town was a very enjoyable time. It’s time to head back to Nice soon. We’ll pass through the park on the hill and head to the bus stop. After leaving the park, we’ll reach a large road running along the coastline. From here, we’ll take a bus to Nice. If you sit by the window with a view of the sea, you’ll be able to enjoy beautiful scenery throughout the journey. We’ll get off at Garibaldi Square, near the old town. Garibaldi is a hero of Italian unification, but he was actually born in Nice, and is considered a “hometown hero” here. We’ve entered the old town. After walking for a while, I started feeling hungry, and seeing food like this immediately whets my appetite. Since tonight is also our last night in Nice, I’d like to find a delicious restaurant for dinner. While looking around, we arrived at Place Masséna. And in the end, for our last dinner, we chose… …the restaurant right in front of our hotel (lol). Today, I ordered another bottle of rosé wine, and a fresh seafood platter! The rosé wine goes down so smoothly. It feels like I only just arrived in Nice yesterday, but it’s already the fifth day. This seafood platter, enjoyed in a port town like this, looks truly fresh and delicious. Take a look at these fruits of the sea, brimming with saltiness and the scent of the ocean~ Squeeze a little lemon on the raw oyster, and pop it in your mouth in one bite. Top the boiled shrimp with mayonnaise, and this too, in one bite~ For the whelks, I’ll effortlessly pull out the meat and enjoy it. Look at this large piece of meat. This taste makes the wine go down easily! This seafood pairs so perfectly with wine, one bottle of wine might not be enough. This is too big, so I’ll cut it before eating. Another bottle of wine, please~ Is the wine delicious, or is the seafood delicious…? It’s a slightly chilly night, but with a gentle buzz, my mood brightens. And the dish I ordered is French-style yukhoe, “Beef Tartare.” It’s a classic dish representative of French cuisine. It’s a dish of finely minced raw beef mixed with various seasonings and ingredients. The taste and aroma aren’t too strong, it’s very mellow and delicious~ And for my meal, I ordered “fresh pasta.” Many of you have probably eaten fresh pasta in Italy or France, and you know the noodles are truly different, right? The texture is clearly different from dried pasta. It’s somewhat similar to kalguksu or udon noodles, with a chewy, springy texture that holds the sauce well… Wow~ I really enjoyed the pasta too! The delicious and enjoyable dinner time, is drawing to a close along with this regrettable night. My last day in Nice. Today, the sixth day, I’m wrapping up my summer vacation in Nice and heading to Paris. In the morning, I’ll have a quick coffee and then check out of the hotel. I’ll take the tram from Jean Médecin station to the airport. As a trip nears its end, there’s always a lingering sense of sadness, isn’t there? Especially here in the South of France, the Côte d’Azur, that sadness feels strangely stronger. The sunlight in the South of France isn’t just bright; it’s a magical light that bathes every scene in gold, the surface of the sea sparkles with dazzling beauty, and the old buildings possessed an elegance like paintings in a museum. The promenade stretching along Nice’s beach, the yachts quietly floating in the harbor, the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting through the alleys in the morning… The time has come to say goodbye to these sights and this atmosphere, and depart from here. I had planned to just have a light breakfast in the lounge, but a delicious-looking beer caught my eye, so I ended up having a morning beer (lol). It was my first time trying this beer, and it’s subtly sweet and delicious. As I was looking out the window in the lounge, the olive oil shop I couldn’t visit in Nice’s Old Town due to lack of time was in the airport’s duty-free shop, so I came to buy a few. Nicolas Alziari olive oil. It’s a product from a traditional olive oil house founded in Nice in 1868. I’m really glad I bought them, as I would have surely regretted going home without them. I have a feeling I’ll travel here again. Is it because I’ve returned after 10 years? For some reason, my heart feels a gentle warmth. More than a trip, it felt like “a fleeting glimpse into a piece of a dream.” This video of the South of France, the Côte d’Azur, Thank you very much for watching until the end.
