Living in a tiny car – do I have a choice?

I’ve lived in a vehicle – initially a small van and now a very small car – for eight years (and counting!). My car is the perfect ‘tiny home’. But did I choose to live in a car or was I forced to? Given a choice, would I actually rather live a more conventional life in a house?

I hope you’re enjoying my ‘vanlife’ channel! I’ve been living in a vehicle sinse February 2018, initially in a small van, and now in an even smaller car. Stay tuned as I attempt to build multiple streams of online income, embrace digital nomadism and, with any luck, travel widely around the UK and Southeast Asia! I love this location independent lifestyle, cutting costs and freeing up my time to enjoy a lifestyle without the constraints of the 9-5! I’m living the Tim Ferris 4-hour Work Week!

  1. As I tend to follow van life on you tube, the algorithm suggested your channel.
I've driven a Toyota Aygo which is basically the same car and they are very tiny. So I'm impressed!Just wondering why you chose the C1?

  2. You're very optimistic about living to 100 😂 . Tbh, you're active and you seem to eat healthy foods. I dont know how old you are. I'd estimate that you're in your early 50s. So I think you probably have a better chance than many people who live a traditional life struggling to pay rent, eat unhealthy takeaways and drink alcohol while watching TV every evening.

  3. Hi Steve, so pleased your channel is starting to perform amazingly with thenew format. A couple of videos ago one of your follows offered you a free Van. Did anything become of that?

  4. I honestly don't agree with your choices regarding donating so much of your income when you were earning to some far away project on the other side of the world. It's also a very corrupt part of the world. Are you sure all your money went to a good cause? I am a firm believer that charity starts at home. There are so many people in need in our own country. You are now middle aged, living in a tiny car with no assets. You also don't seem to be in good health. How much longer do you think you can do this?

  5. You have made so much more of a contribution towards society but a lot of people who have never even worked are better off than you

  6. So what happens when you become older or suffer ill health?? It will become impossible to live in a car especially through a cold English winter…
You say if you were younger and have a choice, you would still prefer to live in a vehicle…
I say, this is bad advice to our younger generation..It is always better to tighten one's belt and buy your own home via a mortgage.
As years go by, mortgage repayments become more affordable as wages rise..In time, one owns the property outright = no monthly mortgage payments or rent to pay.. One then has a few options..Stay where you are, rent it out using the rental income to travel, pay rent overseas for an apartment in a sunnier climate or, live and travel in a van..
Too many people, now in their fifties and sixties, regret not having bought their own home. Rents increase year on year driving people into poverty…

  7. Hi steve im a new suscriber today..im very interested in van life in general.and i also love the isle of wight .really enjoyed todays vlog ..and i will in time watch your past ones.thankyou for your entertainment …take care.and happy new year to you 🎉 and your other subscribers .😊

  8. I can't really understand why you live the way you do and have given so much money away, however I still find your lifestyle fascinating. Makes for a good video 👍

  9. A citroen c1 is very much the same as my peugeot 107, they both have the same toyota engine. And it's very reliable. I love the isle Wright
Also Cornwall. You seem a very interesting person. Good luck and good health to you. All the best.

  10. Steve , living in a vehicle is a great experience been there done that one of the few questions that I wanted to ask you for a long time is how do you register at a doctors and a dentist for healthcare?
PS, I did not live in a car. I lived in a very small caravan illegally in a private field at the top of Shanklin many years ago. As a new age traveller Ish.

  11. Advise to keep your videos much shorter, around twenty minutes, ! To get viewers to click and watch . Many videos to watch on YouTube ! Takecare 👍 😊

  12. Hi Steve. New subscriber here.
Great to watch some authentic content for a change!
    A question.
Typically how much petrol would you use with the C1 in a week?
Obviously for driving, powering and heating it etc.
All the best with your adventures!
    Rich

  13. I hope all your plans pan out. I started out in a Mondeo. Now in a small van, and loving life. I will be going for a slightly bigger van and then save save save for who knows what. My outgoings are tiny. I too absolutely hate staying in a brick cage now. A cage you pay through the roof for. Life can be lived in many different ways, and our individual paths takes us on our own unique journey. One man's heaven is another man's hell. I for one love the challenges that come with my lifestyle, it makes me stronger. Give me minus temperatures and frozen baby wipes over consume consume consume any day. With this way of life I feel so free. I don't live in my van, I live out of it! The whole of the outdoors, wherever I happen to be is where I do my living. And thanks to having such small overheads i can afford to experience so many things I otherwise would not be able to afford. Or put in in the bank , to save towards the land I also plan to buy. All the best to you sir. Feel the air. See the leaves of the trees Experience all the moments so many others miss because of the chaos called normal. Peace brother.

  14. I have only a small income and I'm happily avoiding the UK winter here by the sea in Thailand. A room in a no-contract monthly stay apartment block starts at £140/month with another approx £20/month bill for the aircon. I myself pay £230/month for mine. I commend it to you as a way of maintaining your health away from the cold UK winter. It's 30 degrees and sunny here. I'll be back at Easter

  15. Probably a lot of the people running the Amazon reserves you donated to are living way better than you, because corruption is endemic. That said, I admire your commitment to the natural world.

  16. Will you inherit any thing from your Mother. I know some people your age who don't care about making much money because they know they are going to inherit a property?

  17. S9 y9u were earning good money and you chose to donate to charity 4athercthan buy you4self a property, butvyou don't now have any regrets? No. Make your money , buy your house, and then you have the mens and opportunity to donate to what you want . Bad decisions
