We Didn’t Plan to Visit Switzerland – But This Happened!! Lake Como and Lake Lugano Vanlife
Welcome back 👋🏻 We’re still exploring the beauty of Lake Como in our motorhome, but this leg of our European vanlife journey took a completely unexpected turn. After an overnight motorhome park-up in the city of Como, we enjoyed a scenic walk into town with our travel buddies before hopping on the Lake Como ferry back – simple, not glamorous, but perfect for one night with friends (and yes… safety in numbers!).
Convoying on together, we followed a recommendation from our friends and found ourselves just a stone’s throw from Switzerland, parked up near stunning Lake Lugano. What happened next felt surreal – we ended up walking across the border into Switzerland, a country we never planned to visit on this European road trip.
Spending the afternoon exploring Lugano, Switzerland, soaking up the lakeside views and even heading out on the water on pedaloes, made this an unforgettable vanlife moment. But as with all great road trips, adventures come with goodbyes – and this was where we parted ways with our friends, as they headed east and we turned west.

You two are so funny…..as i have said before we’re from cream on first(Exeter) we motorhome but always used to ride Harleys with the Plymouth Chapter and have done Lake Como, infact loads of Europe. Can’t wait to set sail 19th April to Spain via Plymouth. X happy travels x
Can you please explain over 3:5 tons costing, and what we will need in Swaziland. You spoke briefly about what you would need. We are 5 ton, and travelling from Calais through Germany through Switzerland & Italy onto Croatia in May June. We are trying to avoid Austria (been before) because of the go box travel costs 🫤 great travelling with you both 👍😃
