Japan is a Simulation: The Glitch

In the quiet suburbs just outside the Tokyo matrix, I found a cheap imitation of freedom.

Work finished early. A rare glitch in the schedule. I spent 1,180 yen ($7.50) on a bowl of “natural” tuna, seeking energy to continue functioning as a battery for society. The meal was efficient. The taste was nostalgic.

Walking through the shopping arcade, I encountered a surreal sight: The Statue of Liberty, draped in cheap Christmas LEDs, standing amidst the mundane chaos of daily life. It was tacky, surreal, and perfectly symbolized the modern salaryman experience.

From the electronic noise of the streets to the deep silence of a Shinto shrine, and back into the river of dark coats at the station. This is a Tuesday in the life of a Japanese office worker.

No narration. Just the sounds of the suburbs and inner monologue.
