Bass River State Forest NJ

Easy to moderate hiking right from the campsites with sites that felt pretty well dispersed if you pick your loop carefully. Days were comfortable in the sun but it drops off quickly and nights were definitely cooler so the fire was cosy.

I used a Big Agnes Spicer Peak 4 and it worked really well.

Curious if anyone has recommendations for well dispersed, quieter campgrounds within about 2 to 3 hours of NYC that have a similar feel.

(Only car camping/very short hike locations please but very impressed by the back country members!)

Thanks !

Check out HipCamp I’ve found some decent places in NJ to camp just filter for what you want I look for places that only offer 1 campsite for the whole location for solitude.

  2. This weekend I did a hike and camp in Delaware State Forest in NEPA. It’s a mix of a lot of silver birch, rhododendron, and then pines throughout the forest.

There are campsites you can reserve for the night where you can park more or less right there, or you can dispersed camp for free anywhere in the forest (a distance from the trail and water, though). You can still hear 84 off to the north, but especially if you hike further into the woods, it’s certainly pretty quiet.
