A young Aussie traveller has ripped into UK cafe culture only two hours after landing.

Yana Marks recently arrived in London for a girls’ trip, and the 22-year-old called out a stark difference between Aussie and UK coffee.

“If you’re ordering a mocha, you may as well order a normal coffee because they’re not going to give you any chocolate,” she said on TikTok.

A mocha is a hot chocolate-flavoured drink made with espresso, steamed milk, and chocolate.

But it’s not just mochas that don’t get the chocolate treatment in the UK.

If you’re ordering a cappuccino in a British cafe, chances are the barista will ask if you want to have chocolate powder sprinkled on top.

For Aussies, that’s an odd request, as virtually every cappuccino served Down Under will include that.

This topic has popped up on social media from time to time when Aussies head to the UK.

“What sort of bizarre world would not dust chocolate on a cappuccino?” wrote one person.

“It’s not a cappuccino, it’s just a frothy coffee,” added another.

“That’s what defines a cappuccino. Lots of froth with chocolate on top,” said a third.

Yana also warned others to be careful before taking the first sip of their coffee, otherwise they might “burn their mouths”.

“Why do they make it so hot?” she asked.

But that wasn’t the only complaint from the ex-Love Island Australia star just two hours after touching down in the English capital.

She also bemoaned the lack of air-conditioning in London, saying that she “didn’t know how bad it actually was”, and she added that bottled water was really “thick” to drink.

“Can’t wait to go home and have a refreshing cool drink of water,” she said.

Australians are spoilt for choice when it comes to coffee, and nearly everywhere you go, you’re bound to get a good brew.

From cappuccinos to lattes and everything in between, the Aussie coffee culture, particularly in Melbourne, is something locals are passionate about.

According to the ABC, one reason why the coffee is top-tier is because of the Italian immigrants who fled World War II and moved to Australia

Australia’s subtropical and tropical climates in parts of Queensland and northern New South Wales also create ideal conditions for growing high-quality, sweet, and low-acidity specialty coffee, according to Australian Coffee Culture.
