Celebrate the Jewish New Year with these local L.A. restaurants serving special high holiday menus
Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year celebration, begins at sundown on Friday, Sept. 11, and runs through the weekend, ending at nightfall on Sunday, Sept. 13. The two days of Rosh Hashanah usher in the Ten Days of Repentance, also called the Days of Awe, ending with the major fast day of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Because there is no fasting on the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah dinners and meals are often filled with challah bread and dishes like brisket. Kosher restaurants across Los Angeles are helping to simplify the meal preparation, with plenty of take-out and dine-in options to choose from to help celebrate the high holidays.
Lawry’s The Prime Rib
Celebrate the Jewish New Year at Lawry’s The Prime Rib with a special pre-fixe dinner. The menu includes traditional challah and sliced apples with pomegranate and honey, matzoh ball soup, salad and the choice of roasted beef prime rib with mashed potatoes and creamed corn or pomegranate-glazed branzino with pomegranate salsa and a potato latke. Finish off the meal with an almond-crusted puff pastry for dessert. The menu is priced at $75 per person and $40 for children under 12. The menu will be available starting Friday through the end of the holiday on Sunday.
Mish
This new modern Jewish deli is debuting their first high holiday catering menu to help simplify your holiday. The menu features restaurant staples alongside speciality items. Try their sweet and sour slow-cooked Brisket with wood-grilled carrot tzimmes, dilly matzoh ball soup, charred leek and potato kugel, beet and pistachio tabbouleh all alongside a fresh chopped salad. Finish the decadent meal with an apple honey babka with cinnamon streusel. The full spread feeds four people and is available for order on their website until Sept. 9.
Brent’s Deli
Join this family-run restaurant at one of their two locations to celebrate on Sept. 12 for an in-house Rosh Hashanah dinner. Food offerings include brisket or half roasted chicken, roasted potatoes, string bean almondine, chopped liver, matzo ball soup and fresh-baked challah.

Preorder their honeycrisp apple bread pudding with salted caramel sauce, completed with a pint of Vanilla Ice Cream or pick up a Blintze Box, featuring six of founder Leah Spielberg Adler’s famous cheese blintzes with housemade apple compote.

This classic Jewish deli, located in Beverly Hills, offers traditional favorites as well as dishes made special for the New Year holiday. Pies from its sister restaurant, the iconic Apple Pan, are also available to order for $55 each, including classic apple, chocolate, banana or coconut cream pies. The high holiday menu is available Sept. 11 to 13 for pickup and delivery. Pre-orders must be made 48 hours in advance.

This second-generation, family-owned establishment is offering both dine-in and take-out options crafted from original family recipes. Mix and match appetizers, main courses, desserts and side dishes to complete your celebrations or opt for a complete dinner, available dine-in for $56 or take-out for $58.
