Hayden Panettiere will be honored by family and close friends at a celebration of life this weekend in Malibu, according to a new report.
According to TMZ, the memorial will take place at a church in the beachside California community, with about 150 people expected to attend.
Panettiere’s father, Skip Panettiere, is expected to be there, but the outlet reported that her mother, Lesley Vogel, and boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, are reportedly not invited.
Vogel says she and Panettiere were estranged in relation to the “Heroes” star’s relationship with Hickerson.
In an interview with ABC News, Vogel said their final estrangement began after she stayed with Panettiere for about six weeks when the actress wanted to leave Hickerson. When Panettiere told her she planned to stay with Hickerson, Vogel offered her daughter an ultimatum She could not remain in Panettiere’s life if Hickerson was part of it. Vogel says she expected their no-contact period to be only “a pocket of time,” not permanent.
Malibu was chosen because of Panettiere’s love of the ocean and whales, and that the ceremony will focus on her life and legacy, not the struggles she faced, per TMZ’s sources.
Panettiere died Aug. 16 at age 36 in Greenville, South Carolina. Authorities received a call about an unresponsive person at an apartment and when officers arrived, multiple EMS and fire personnel were performing CPR on a woman identified as Panettiere.
An incident report for Panettiere’s death states that EMS continued life-saving efforts “for an extended amount of time” before declaring her dead at 2:31 p.m.
Several news outlets reported that Panettiere’s cause of death was related to a fentanyl-laced pill, but her representative confirmed that the investigation is still pending while they await final toxicology reports.
“While we are all eager to find closure and understand the circumstances of her passing, we must remain patient and allow the investigative process to unfold. I have been informed by the investigating agency that the case is complex, but progress is being made. In the meantime, we must be mindful of reports attributed to unnamed sources, particularly as conflicting information continues to circulate,” Panettiere’s representative Kasey Kitchen said in a statement. “The answers we are all seeking will come.”
