Gaffney fan favorites fought to maintain their posts, with life-changing milestones unfolding among the doctors, the episode served as an epic conclusion to several captivating storylines. From the triumphant delivery of Dr. Hannah Asher’s (Jessy Schram) baby with Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) to a criminal on the loose and hiding within the Emergency Department, “Heaven Help Us” kept each of the Gaffney doctors on their toes, with several emotional truths brought to light.

Here’s everything that happened during Chicago Med’s emotional Season 11 finale:

Hannah and Archer celebrated their beautiful baby girl, Mabel

After a season of fretting and raw vulnerability about their baby on the way, Hannah’s delivery was anything but simple. Not only did the Gaffney OBGYN start going into labor in the middle of conducting a C-section, but Hannah was confused after Archer failed to pick up her calls once she was whisked away by her delivery team. Where was Archer?

Turns out, Archer was distracted by a prisoner who took him hostage after fleeing his hospital bed and seizing a firearm. The gunman instructed Archer to do whatever he commanded if he ever wanted to see his kid. An experienced veteran, Archer successfully took down the gunman, running to Hannah’s delivery room just in time to not miss anything.

Much to everyone’s delight, Hannah and Archer’s baby girl was born with no complications. Hannah came up with the name for their daughter because “she just looks like a Mabel.”

There were several love confessions during Med’s Season 11 finale

After a euphoric experience meeting their baby girl, Archer came clean to Hannah about something that’s been weighing on his heart for a while now. He tearfully confessed that he’s in love with her and has been for quite some time, assuring her that he didn’t expect anything to come from that admission. Hannah understood, admitting that the stress of the baby prevented her from processing Archer’s feelings for her. Hannah thanked Archer for telling her “now,” kissing him sweetly before marveling at their beautiful girl together.

Med’s showrunner Allen MacDonald is keen to remind viewers that Hannah doesn’t return the “I love you,” and fans will have to wait to see where the Dasher connection goes next.

“The now is really important. Leading up to that moment, Hannah was going through her own…” Jessy Schram tells NBC Insider. “She couldn’t look beyond [pregnancy], and the ‘thank you for telling me now’ was the moment of, OK. I had these ideas. I had this feeling. People have been telling me I wasn’t ready to deal with it, but now I’m here in this moment, and I can be grounded.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Caitlin Lenox (Sarah Ramos) has been on an honesty quest, opening up to her loved ones about her GSS diagnosis and even admitting to Dr. Mitch Ripley (Luke Mitchell) that she’s in love with him. Privy to the pressure of her terminal diagnosis, Lenox extended Ripley a “drama-free breakup” that he had no interest in accepting. Despite their rollercoaster relationship, Ripley confessed that he was in love with Lenox, too. After sharing that he can’t wait to spend every moment he can with her, Lenox and Ripley shared an emotional kiss.

Frost says goodbye to his father

After finally making peace with his parents and forgiving them for his toxic upbringing, Dr. John Frost (Darren Barnet) was at his father’s bedside as he tragically died from Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Goodwin found her job in peril

Amid the chaos and closure, Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) faced his own ongoing threats of losing his job due to his sociopathic former mentee, Dr. Theo Rabari (Manash Dayal). Gaffney director Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) wasn’t willing to let her friend go down without a fight. After Theo made moves to exploit Dr. Charles, Goodwin mentioned Rabari’s diagnosis to a member of the hospital board, Miranda. This was poorly received by the contemptuous Miranda, who encouraged Goodwin to resign before she made her leak public.

“Miranda has pissed off Sharon Goodwin, and I think that probably isn’t the smartest thing to do,” Med’s MacDonald cautions NBC Insider. “Next season, I think that we’re gonna basically see Miranda and Goodwin get in the ring.”

Dr. Charles may be in the clear, but Goodwin’s job now faces the guillotine as Chihards are forced to wait for Chicago Med Season 12 to see how she navigates the latest setback.
