IN THIS EPISODE: The open road is a beautiful place where you can make friends that you’d otherwise never meet and have adventures that will change your life. But there are also extreme dangers to traveling with strangers on highways and backroads. No matter how trustworthy or well-intentioned a driver might seem, it’s nearly impossible to tell if they are actually a predator or murderer, preying upon innocent hitchhikers. Creepy, true hitchhiker stories can make you think twice before picking up that stranger at the side of the road – or trying to “thumb it” yourself.

  1. When I was 18 and knew everything, I was on my way home from work one day and I saw a guy hitch hiking. It was a rainy yukky day so I decided to stop and give him a lift. He got in and said Thank you but not much else. As we went a bit further I could see the guy out the corner of my eye and he was reaching into the hood of his jacket. In that moment every warning my mother ever gave me about picking up hitch hikers rang in my ears. I was trying to think of anything I could do to keep from being murdered when, the guy didn't have a knife or gun in his hand, but a tiny puppy who's eyes were not even opened yet. I was relieved for myself but upset for that little dog. I never, ever picked up a hitch hiker again. I read in the paper that the puppy had been stolen from the mother when the guy went to see them to "put a deposit on it" it was a high dollar dog. The creep.

  2. My son and his dad lived in the home that Kempers mom lived in when he killed her. It’s actually a duplex located in Aptos Ca, near Santa Cruz. I always asked if he heard weird stuff there. He said no, but strangely over the course of time that he lived there he started to look like him. He wore the same glasses and did his hair like him. It was weird. I showed my mom a picture of Kemper and compared it to one that I took of my son and my mom was creeped out. My son’s personality never changed, it was just weird because he isn’t even into serial killers or anything like that. After they moved out, he looked like his normal self again. It was all just very strange to me.
