Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide © 2012 | In this third of three shows on the Eternal City, we’ll explore this grand metropolis — so rich in art and culture — on a more intimate scale, delving into its back lanes and unheralded corners. Venturing through the crusty Trastevere district, visiting the historic Jewish Ghetto, and enjoying art treasures in a string of rarely visited churches, we uncover charms of hidden Rome that compete with its marquee sights. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope #rome

  1. See how GREEN the Tiber is??? This is too how I saw it in Summer 2019 when I lived for 11 months in this beautiful city. That's due to NITRATES promoting too much alga growth, the algal using up all the oxygen in the water + most fish will die. This is AWFUL. Overuse of FERTILISERS higher up in the catchment area with run off via side tributaries into rhe TIBER. For me a sign that Italian farmers are SNUBBING EU LAW which gets no attention at all making whole some fluvian ecosystems collapse. I too noticed massive insect extingtions. There are eg no grasshoppers + ants are next to nano size (0.1-2 mm) having NOTHING TO EAT, i discovered NATURE IS STARVING in and around of ROME while too over 15000 tourists per day do A LOT OF LITTERING. I found plastic litter on pavements from ALLOVER THE WORLD, which utterly astonished how noncaring many are. To visit an ancient city + leaving your own mark behind dropping your rubbish in the streets not picking it up. PS I too lived 4 months in Paris two years ago. I did too discovered a city with no heart for nature but the littering was not as bad as in Rome.

  2. WHEN IN ROME DO LIKE THE ROMANS DO!!!! Learn Italian!!!! Make an effort…the Italians I met, most of them looked at me strange as if from another planet when talking to them in my good English…you are missing out.

  3. Roman churches are magnificent and well worth while to see the tiles are also great to view.Astra was another great c8ty which( is still being researched and history of the this city wonderful love area

  4. Great to see the back lanes vide9.marvellous church decor with great interior s and monuments.thanks Rick for this back street review of Rome

  5. After a hard day at work, my wife and I sit back and let Rick transport us to all the beautiful and exotic places we’d love to see! It has become a life-enriching experience for us🙏 Thanks, Rick💛

  6. Italy is a sort of emotional rescue and therapy for the common american guy , but the representation on media is often full of stereotypes. So usually american people are far to understand the real italian culture . Mr Steves does his best work to improve the situation .

  7. I love exploring Backstreets. My neighborhood is beautiful. I like the Italian culture. Italian food is delicious. Then Jewish Community is interesting the charges are beautiful.

  8. I just wish Baghdad and Damascus were preserved and celebrated as Rome is. Sure rome started the modern world as we know it today but the Euphrates/Tigris cities are much older and forged how we know civilization.

  9. Roma, Roma, Roma
    Core de 'sta città
    Unico grande amore
    De tanta e tanta gente
    Che fai sospirà

    Roma, Roma, Roma
    Lasciace cantà
Da 'sta voce nasce un coro
    So centomila voci
    C'hai fatto innamorà

    Roma, Roma bella
    T'ho dipinta io
    Gialla come er sole
    Rossa come er core mio

    Roma, Roma mia
    Nun te fa incantà
    Tu sei nata grande
    E grande hai da restà

    Roma, Roma, Roma
    Core de 'sta città
    Unico grande amore
    De tanta e tanta gente
    C'hai fatto innammorà
