My road trip through Montenegro takes me to the old, fortified town of Kotor – a place hidden deep inside Boka Bay and surrounded by towering rugged mountains. It’s a place I didn’t know existed until 6 months before my trip – I saw a photo and knew I had to visit. I’ve seen a few old mediaeval towns in Europe and Kotor is definitely up there with the best.
I’ll start off by showing you around my two bedroom apartment just a few minutes walk from the old town of Kotor. It was perfectly positioned to use as a base for a couple of days whilst I explored Kotor and further afield. I also got a great deal – prices in Montenegro are affordable and you certainly get great value for your money.
After an apartment tour my first adventure was to head into Kotor’s fairytale old town and explore the mediaeval alleyways and historic town squares that make this such a fun place to visit.
The architecture and atmosphere blew me away – it was like going back in time and seeing first hand what life was like a few hundred years ago. I ended up using my drone to get some spectacular shots of Kotor’s old rooftops hovering somewhere out over Boka Bay.

Glad you enjoyed Kotor! We went last December and thought it was a true hidden gem, absolutely loved it.
Kotor does look really beautiful. That cruise ship seems really out of place. You should have harvested some grapes!
Looking at flights now and I’m serious it’s blown me away Matt , Ryanair it looks like from stansted to podgorcia. It’s insanely beautiful and kotor is 100 per cent us especially old town , cheers as always
