How to Spend a Week in Chiang Mai – Top Things to Do in Chiang Mai, Thailand

After spending the last two weeks trekking up to Everest Base Camp in Nepal, we’ve now arrived in Thailand to begin the backpacking leg of our travel year.

Over the next four weeks, our travels will take us from the mountains and jungles of Northern Thailand, to the paradise islands and beaches of tropical Southern Thailand.

In this episode, we take an overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and spend an action-packed week exploring Northern Thailand. We visit an elephant sanctuary, learn to cook traditional Thai dishes in a cooking class, and spend three days trekking through the jungle, staying with remote hill tribes and rafting down the river on bamboo rafts.

If you’re new around here – 👋 Hi, we’re James and Amy and back in October 2022 we quit our jobs to travel for a year. We spent five months travelling around New Zealand and Australia in a camper van, followed by two weeks trekking up to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Now, we’re excited to begin our backpacking adventures in Southeast Asia, starting in Thailand.
