Viaggio in Puglia: 7 cose insolite da fare
Hello travellers, we’re Elisa and Luca from Miprendoemiportovia and today we’re taking you with us to Apulia! We recently took a 10-day trip from south to north, from the Adriatic to the Ionian coast, to this extraordinary region that has a virtually endless list of beauties to see and things to do.
In this video we want to tell you about 7 unusual things that will leave you speechless and that you should definitely include in the itinerary of your next trip to Apulia! Are you ready? Let’s get started!
Just outside Otranto, less than two miles [3 km] away, is a location that leaves all who reach it stunned. It’s the former bauxite quarry: what crazy colours!!! You will suddenly feel that you have landed on Mars! The site is open to anyone who wishes to visit it.
Returning to the coast, from the top of the cliff you can admire the white Punta Palascia Lighthouse, ecently restored with the Cohen project of Interreg Greece Italy: The villages of Monopoli and Polignano a Mare are two of the real jewels
Of the province of Bari. A must-do activity, whatever the season, is to go to the port of Monopoli and board a boat to reach Polignano by sea and thus enjoy scenery that would otherwise be impossible to admire from the mainland, such as the numerous caves
Scattered along the coast. It is an experience we strongly recommend and which we have done by participating in a SeaTour in collaboration with the Interreg Themis programme. A stroll through the historic center of Brindisi, between historic monuments such as the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and the San Giovanni
Al Sepolcro , and then down the stairs of the Roman Column to its romantic palm-lined harbor is the best way to get to know this city. But the real gem is on the opposite side where the imposing Monument to the Italian Sailor rises to the sky.
From the top, you can enjoy a breathtaking 360° view of Brindisi and its harbour, which has been improved to improve the experience of the many travellers who set sail from here to Greece every day, thanks to the Dock-BI project of Interreg Greece Italy.
One of the excellences of Apulia is represented by the ceramics of Grottaglie. The countryside is truly beautiful, and to go in and out of its countless craftsmen’s shops is a real delight to the eyes. But not only that: n some laboratories it is possible to dress as master potters for a day.
We really had a lot of fun tinkering with the lathe to try to create our own custom pottery and decorate two tiles to take home as personalized souvenirs. We did it at the Carriero Carmelo and Annamaria Quaranta ceramics shops.
60 km south of Bari is one of the most fascinating rock settlements in the whole of Apulia: the Lama d’Antico Rock Park in Fasano, which is involved in the Hermes project of Interreg Greece Italy.
Here are the caves that were the homes and places of worship of a medieval village dating from the 10th to the 16th century where t is still possible to admire parts of the rock paintings that have withstood the passage of time.
Perhaps not everyone knows that the city of Taranto is home to one of the most important archaeological museums n Italy: the MARTA. Most of the archaeological finds on display tell the story of Apulia’s past, from when it was part of Magna Graecia to the time of the Roman Empire.
Thanks to the Fish & C.H.I.P.S. project, funded by Interreg Greece Italy, the route inside the museum has been enriched by multimedia stations and an app that amplify the beauty of this unique cultural place in Italy. Scattered along the Apulian coast are sixteen towers
That were built between 1569 and 1573 to defend the territory from threats from the sea. Recently restored thanks to the Cohen project of Interreg Greece Italy, they are a true beauty. We visited the tower of San Felice in Vieste, the Stone Tower of Margaret of
Savoy and the Calder Tower of Molfetta. Which of these unusual things did you know? Write it in the comments! If you liked this video, like it and if you haven’t already, subscribe to the channel to discover other curiosities around Italy and the world! Byeeee!!!
