In 2023, Energy Observer has completed its sixth and penultimate year of operation. of her Odyssey around the world! From Africa to Brazil, we’ve had a very busy year which I invite you to relive in this video. It all began… at an altitude of 1800 metres, in the resort of Avoriaz.

Our exhibition village has moved in to talk about decarbonation in the high mountains. We have mobilized from the region and the hydrogen industry around concrete solutions for the high-altitude transition and raise public awareness of these issues. Meanwhile, the the vessel continued on her way to Africa

Where we continued to decipher the challenges of the transition issues in the countries we visited. In Kenya, we’ve discovered a true geothermal champion! In Madagascar, we discovered an island badly damaged by deforestation, but where solutions are emerging to combat overexploitation of biomass.

One of the highlights of the year stopover in Cape Town, South Africa, after rounding the mythical Cape of Good Hope. The crew met up with the exhibition village and the shore crew, against the backdrop of the energy crisis. Ageing coal-fired power plants

No longer ensure the country’s the country’s electricity supply, generating record power cuts. But solar and wind power are gaining ground! Walvis Bay, in Namibia, with its great sand dunes falling into the ocean was the last African stopover for Energy Observer. Our focus there was on green hydrogen production.

The country’s ambition is to become one of the world’s of green hydrogen exports by 2030 and has everything it takes to succeed. Leaving Africa, a new challenge awaited us: the ship’s second transatlantic crossing! 3,395 nautical miles and 23 sailing days to reach the Brazilian coast.

En route, the crew was able to stop at St. Helena, one of the world’s most isolated islands, and a real favorite for those who attended! Fortaleza, Brazil, was the 83rd stage of the Odyssey. It brought a lot of people together aboard Energy Observer and even a local folklore group!

This stopover enabled us to to take a closer look at ethanol, a biofuel for which Brazil is the the world’s second-largest exporter. 2023 was also the 40ᵉ anniversary of the boat’s construction and the last year before returning to France. A big thank you to everyone who came to visit us

To our partners for their commitment and of course to all of you for your support. See you next year for the end of the world tour!
