Wind Chill Weekend: From The East Side Of Downtown To Bloor St W Via Yonge St |Toronto Walk w/Meghan

Hey people it is Saturday January the 13th time is 1:23 in the afternoon it’s currently -1 CS but feeling much colder with the windchill more like -7 yeah there’s definitely a definitely a nip in the air yeah and it’s supposed to get colder in the coming days I’m here with Megan we’re walking

Along Gerard Street heading west on Gerard East we’re going to make our way up to Boren Spadina where we’ll be meeting up with a viewer of the channel so this walk will just be from here to meet up with the viewer but then after that we’ll start a different walk

Walking with the viewer for another video so you’ll see that coming soon it should be a fun walk but I thought why not record a video of us walking to there there since blor and SP is definitely a long enough walk to put in a video and this is the day

After the big snow storm and as you can see there’s not much sign of any snow here in downtown there’s like barely anything I think downtown got about 5 cm and then it started raining after the snow ended and so most of that snow is all gone

Already but there are tiny little flakes coming down right now I don’t think it’s going to amount to any more accumulation or anything but they did say like blowing snow but like later on yeah so there is like another big like band of snow coming in I checked the r radar earlier

So this is like kind of a little window before it gets like really bad right yeah yeah this snow event downtown was mostly a slush event I was live streaming and it was just lakes and lakes of slush everywhere yeah north of downtown Town though they had more actual

Snow yeah well we got dumped on when I was like going to the train station it was like horrible yeah we’re heading north on Church Street yeah definitely a very cold crispy feel today yeah I’ll say and so much colder weather is heading our way as I mentioned getting going to be feel

Likeus 25 yeah the windchill though right yeah yeah I know you hate it when people say that the real the wind is not the temperature but yeah all right coming up to Carlton Street all right let’s take Carlton West to Young Leaf Gardens how you making out are you freezing it

No yeah all right this really you have a low tolerance for the cold yes yeah this uh this is my ugly coat but it’s very warm yeah I have to say that I also have Benny layers on underneath right I’m wearing a sweater and a coat underneath

My coat and then I have few pairs of socks on three pairs of socks W okay my tight and then I have a thinner pair of socks and then I have my thick wool socks oh that go up to my knees 3.99 that’s pretty decent price I

Wonder if you can get a Falafel for $3.99 also a lot of places now you have to pay like five or six or even $7.99 for a fallafel that’s a lot yeah I made fulla once in the air fryer was pretty good yeah yeah I used to eat

Right just like let it drip well I let it drip until I can’t take it anymore and then I tend to it I tend to it as best I can yeah I’m sniffing I can’t not do it I’m sorry guess guess these are flurries now eh I think this qualifies as flurries

Street poke pokey that looks good do the hokey pokei yeah that’s what it’s all about turn yourself around yeah One thing I noticed from all the pot shop now is they’re always playing hip-hop music whereas Once Upon a Time if pot shops were legal say in the’ 60s or 70s obviously hip-hop music wasn’t a thing then but pot was always associated with hippies and rock music right but now

It’s associated with hip-hop yeah you know you don’t see pot shops playing 1960s or’ 7s rock music like hippie oriented music You Know listen to Bob Marley well some did later but I mean in the 60s they listen to the rock bands of the 60s I mean the Beatles were well known

For their pot influenced songs and things like that right that’s true yeah but you don’t hear Beatles playing at any of the pot shops they it’s always hip-hop music I was think if beetles is like a rock band though of course they’re a rock band I think of them more

As like a boy band no oh my God you’re just saying that to provoke me hly I think I think of like heavy no a rock band is you write and play music on your own instruments usually electric guitars with drums with heavy drums beetles play electric guitars yes okay I didn’t know

That of course they play electric guitars well now they see Rock they always we rock band I didn’t know that I thought they just played like acoustic guitars no no no so I was like oh they seem more like FY like no they have songs like that but they primarily play

Yeah it’s only just for a short little while yeah the nose is like a faucet now yep St Thomas Street so this is the blor Yorkville area we’re walking through very upscale fancy part of town and also University of Toronto we’re coming into the campus also on that side

I love these buildings right yeah I love those old buildings yeah UFT is definitely one of the most beautiful Urban University campuses in North America I agree it’s why so many movies are fil yeah and City nerd which is a channel that I enjoy watching did a video where

He made his own ranking of the top 10 most Urban University campuses in North America and UFT came in second who was the first I think NYU yeah although I thought that tmu might have been ahead of UFT because it’s literally like right in the heart of downtown right by Young and Dundas

Yeah but like it’s got the campus is really ugly I know but it’s still Urban though right yeah but it’s not as like picturesque and it’s like small you know yeah but he wasn’t really counting that necessarily he was just counting you know walkability you know accessibility to Transit and things like

That right and tmu has all that just as much as UFT does I think it was in the ranking though it was just higher up it wasn’t like in the top five or anything like that all right we’re almost at blur and Queens Park we’re just heading north towards blur

But I definitely have a new appreciation for it because like I know when we were on our way to the concert my dad was telling me how like jazz musicians play very like look go all improv and like they’re just gripping and I didn’t know that yeah and I was

Like oh like that gave me a new respect for it because like it was pretty impressive well that’s how Jazz works I didn’t know that okay I thought it was all like pre-written music and I was like no no no no that’s why I didn’t

Like it cuz I was like it’s so chaotic just play the right if you going to write a song that’s why it’s cha they literally make it up as they go but that makes so much more sense and then I was like oh but it has to sound Pleasant

You know not just like a cacophony of noise right it’s super like impressive that people can do that you know like you really have to be intimate with like jazz musicians are literally the best musicians there are you know well yeah you’d have yeah so like I didn’t know that and that

Completely changed how I looked at jazz right it’s just like a new appreciation for that and like watching them on stage too cuz they were um a family from France and they’re all Jazz musicians and it was like an old dude and his sons and they were all playing together and like the

Dude was probably like in his 70s or ‘ 80s and then his sons looked like they were in their 40s and like they’ve been playing together their whole lives yeah and like you could see how proud he was with his sons and it was just like really cool like one of his sons

Performed a song that he had written and after that his dad got up and he had tears in his eyes and walked over to him and like grabbed his face and kissed him on each cheek I was like a that was so cool like obviously there

Are jazz songs that have been you know written down that you can perform over and over and over again you know yeah but you could tell like when like the song that he wrote it was like very formulaic and like yeah like they weren’t riffing cuz like when they were

Riffing they were always looking at each other and like one would kind of pick out a beat and then the other like someone else would start up and someone else would start up and they were always looking at each other yeah cuz they’re giving each other cues right yeah so you
