Milford Haven: A Hidden Gem in Wales – Discover Its Majestic Ports & Forgotten Forts | Jason Thomas

Welcome to Milford Haven Wales largest port one of the biggest in the UK and pretty much as far west as we can go in the UK let’s go on an adventure hello mate hello you’re the chosen one hello hello I’m stable so first of all I think we’ll explore the port

And have a look around uh around here let’s see what we can find so weather’s not the best today can only imagine what kind of ship’s coming after there quite uh quite a lot of history for Milford Haven just sad to see that uh not as much happens

Here anymore but uh let’s cross this lock first I think I found out fairy to uh to Island let’s get in not leaving for a few more hours though some British uh artwork there got old penis found some sort of f I think really interesting look at this this is

Cool not too sure what it is exactly but it looks like some sort of Fort cool little Bridge obviously gone to disrepair now but uh look at that really sad to see things like this go to waste that is one place you would not want to end up being

In wonder how deep that is and this is how some of the people live in Milford Haven and uh yeah this is quite cool look at that even got a cat boat cat looks like a Main I don’t know if you can see it he looks like he’s

Living his best life not a care in the world love that absolutely love that oh look another cat two of them living their best lives now that here’s how it’s done well it wasn’t much in the port so let’s see if uh there’s anything in the

Town center and we can get something to eat see if we can find any greasy fryer let’s go this a bad sign when uh Gregs has closed down but look at this on another note a dog that drives Milford Haven excuse me can you recommend anywhere for

Breakfast what now well anything to eat any like greasy kind of fryer place or McDonald’s no I was thinking somewhere local somewhere loc oh McDonald’s is down the road down oh there we are go and try them um where the hell would you get a breakfast from this all h shittle

Yeah that’s a good word to describe isn’t it it is a good word to describe because it is a shittle are you from Milford I am okay not that I want to be no no no you lived your allly life no I was born in mid Wales Newtown Powers so

You moved out to this sh from one shle to another but I’d rather be in Newtown Powers at least there’s at at least we got a Main Street there there’s you got nothing here it’s really sad in it to see um I’m just trying to think hang on

A breakfast oh up the top just up here can you see there’s some seats outside yeah go past yeah there there some seats outside not the first one the second one yeah I’ll give them a try good are they lovely okay I’ll give them a try it’s

Called pem Brook you promise I’ll give them a try now then and I tell you the two young girls in there loveely and everything’s fresh lovely I’ll go and give them a try now I’ll have a little walk on you I’ll go back up there lovely thank you take care

Bye-bye sure what this is looks like a little small mini mall or something it’s funky anyway really funky yeah give no money of vales left on these prises over let see if we can uh get some e new then face covering must be worn Beyond this point 2024 crazy times a typical British

Breakfast let’s see what it tastes like doesn’t seem to be much in uh in Milford quite a lot of empty shocks but just had breakfast in this Cafe and uh the the guys around his head McDonald’s has just opened in Milford Haven so that is the big news for Milford Haven

McDonald’s interesting let going check the rest of the High [Applause] Street quite a lot of these dotted around and uh this one honor and glory to those of this town who made the Supreme sacrifice we shall remember them get all those names on that [Applause] s Manel Martin

McKay maias Morris you know there’s quite a few different names on there really sad really sad this is just sign of the times but look at this street this is uh barow Street and uh look at [Applause] that not sure that’s uh still open starboard Rotel thank

You just walking down uh one of the street in uh Milford Haven there not really much here is it’s not much to kind of explore it’s quite sad and uh really uh really depressing to be honest to but what’re going to say excuse me do you know if that’s the old police station

Um yeah yeah oh I didn’t realize they actually for finished yeah it’s been for sale for several months yeah yeah I I don’t know where they’ve gone to though I I hadn’t even observed the fact that they’re not operating there anymore yeah but yeah it’s been on the market for

Several months just decided to pull out I don’t know I don’t know why that’s sad that isn’t it I mean I don’t know if know where they’re located now whether they joined with Harford West or what it’s probably easier in it never mind nice building though gosh doesn’t give you much sense of

Security does it not at all not at all signning the times I guess they probably play brexit though so you want they play brexit [Applause] probably never mind no it wasn’t that long ago actually it’s only it’s only a few months since been on the market as far

As I know sad very sad anyway never mind lovely thank you okay W look at that what does I tell you she didn’t even know the police station had closed never mind let’s see where else we can find him for even I had to stop stop and uh show you

This so I see quite a lot of these in Wales I think they did it through lockdown so uh they like a crochet thing on top of FO box it just brightens them up a little bit and uh this quite interesting because it’s St David’s day tomorrow so we’ve got the dragon

Actually we got a sheep and we’ve got the St David’s [Applause] flag look at that just brightening up the old uh post boxes so I thought I’d come over to the PM Brooker side um we just crossed the clear River um over that bridge over

There used to be um a tall bridge there us to charge to come over that to be about 60 70 P but they’ve scrapped that a couple years ago but I thought I’d come and show you these fors so this one here uh marelo I think it’s called um I

Haven’t been here for a few years but this one comes with his own little yellow dingy look so look at that but it reminds me of uh Fort bayad I don’t know if you guys remember that but it’s a bit of nostalgia so the 80s 90s uh program I

Think that was filmed in France but these things always remind me of uh of that but I wanted to show you these um mosaics as well on the wall so there’s quite a few of these scattered around and these ones have got a bit of history on them and

Uh we’re not going to look them all now but some of them have got the forts on them it’s quite quite a lot of military based stuff in Pam Brookshire and they’ve got a military cemetery as well and uh I did see something online the other day quite fascinated that they made part

Of something to do with Star Wars in Pembrook uh Pembrook dock even I’m not too sure what that was but I I’m not not a Star Wars fan so I’ll um leave you guys look that one up but yeah we’ll go and have a look at these other fors now

And go from there so I thought I’d just show you these quickly just come across them so these are old uh military buildings and uh they’re abandoned but absolutely beautiful The ston Works incredible and uh these are on the dock so they must have been linked to

Something I’m not too not too sure what we just look at the uh the work has gone into them and they just left it’s quite sad really is it to see and uh obviously they boarded up so they’ve been like this a long time but there’s one there’s one over here and

It’s got like a glass front so I don’t know whether they’ve started a do it up or whether it was kind of purchased and then turned into something else but uh this would make an amazing coffee shop and probably like a hotel look at that absolute

Beautiful there’s quite a few of them I uh feel like I’m in some some part of London you’d never see here in pambrook dock you know the light in everything’s just got this nice aesthetic and uh these buildings yeah you just wouldn’t expect it almost like not even London

Maybe bath or something like that but no we’re in pamber dark in Wales any whether someone lives in these um it’s quite a bit of rubbish outside one of them so yeah quite quite sad to see but maybe I need to do a bit more research on these and

Come back but it does feel um like apocalyptic I can’t explain that it’s it’s quite uh it’s quite sad to see these beautiful buildings just left empty whether there a couple of people living or any of them I’m not too sure but what I’ll do I’ll have a look

I’ll do some research and if we want to come back we can come back but yeah it just feels like we’re in some part of London anyway let’s go to the last Fort so this is the last stop for us I just thought I’d show you this can

Really quickly look at this view so we were just on the other side of the clear ey over there you got a few tug boats I think that’s LNG on that side um they provide I’m sure that one fuel maybe gas one of them is either one

Anyway so one’s gas one’s fuel vice versa but uh yeah it’s a busy busy Port like you can see the ships where we were about earlier it’s quite windy so I’m not too sure if you can hear it but um show you the last for and

Uh look at that this it’s used a lot more I think it’s been privately bought and uh you can see up the top there’s a couple of helmets and things like that so this must be occupied by by some sort of Enthusiast or collector um they got like a couple of

Like tank stops or something I know what that’s have a little look so let’s go down here my ass have a little look look at this I think it’s a tank stop but yeah looks amazing anyway guys I’ve uh pretty much come to the end of this

Journey and this has been a good fun one I’ve enjoyed this and this met some really fun people some absolute head cases anyway enjoy and I’ll uh see you next time bye thank you

  1. Of Course.. Lord Nelson went to Milford for his sex-life! I sailed there from Goowick Cwm Abergward 1st jan 2011. I anchored at Dale. Lovely Dale! On 3rd Jan 2011 I went to Milford Marina! It was great to get shelter! The Marina always had Belgians there for the Turbot! I speciality in Europe but brits sadly don,t eat it!.The Belgians used to use the great pub at the dock! (2011)….Lawreny Quay has a great pub with food! So has Cresswell Quay!….Me 76 ex RN and Matelot. Warton Lancs LA5

  2. In Wales they hate tourists, cars, holiday home owners and business owners. Its why everyone is avoiding it. I love Wales, but I will not visit it any more, I want to visit where I feel welcome.

  3. After watching this video it's hit me on how much of a shit state my home county has become. You should visit Fishguard, it's small, very historical, lovely places to eat out and friendly locals.

  4. Even Russia looks much better than huge swathes of the UK today..in fact these pictures of MH and so many other in England, Scotland and Wales are very similar sadly… to the Russia and Ukraine of the 70's…

  5. Really disappointed to see you show Milford is such a poor and inaccurate light.
Currently the marina is where businesses are thriving and where you completely decided to ignore. From several eateries, including a hotel opened by celtic Manor only recently, local family run shops also. The torch theatre, charity ran which draws people from all around for shows and so on.
Anyone hoping to get a sense of what Milford is like please take this video with a pinch of salt. Yes, just like most towns and cities in Wales the high street is struggling but it still provides numerous jobs for local people.
P.s the police station relocated to the marina also, not merged with Harfordwest Station.

  6. Well. Did you look about properly. You missed all the local run shops down the marina. Included restaurants. Seem to pick on all the bad bits.
So many more things to have seen. Maybe visit again but with someone that knows the area and can point out things.
The police station is now down the docks behind Tesco.
While you were over in pembroke dock the millennium falcon was built there.

  7. Greggs ain't shut
You missed 4 or 5 cafes on the marina
It's not fair to call a town that's regenerating a "shithole" … there is a positive side to milford … there's loads to explore … you had blinkers on while making this vid mate … the police station has moved not closed … ect ect

  8. Any visitor walking through the town centre would have the same depressing impression. Investments and development for business and tourists have all shifted out to the Marina. High streets all over the world are in serious decline due to the lack of trade for business there. Should actually turn the town houses into residential properties, nicely maintained and painted, with only a few shops trading for the locals. Would be quiet and tourist free. πŸ˜… Move all the tourist to the Marina. πŸ˜‚

  9. Most of the "high streets" in Welsh towns seem to be in a similar state. I assume council rates and online shopping being the main purportrators.
I would recommend visiting the Marina before making up your mind about Milford though. It is full of some cracking little shops, restaurants and small businesses.
