Syracuse: Sicily’s Hidden

welcome to Syracuse where history and Beauty intertwin in the heart of Sicily in this video we’re diving into the vibrant culture and stunning Landscapes that make Syracuse a true gym of the [Music] Mediterranean after leaving Malta the next stop on our Mediterranean Cruise was the city of Syracuse on the island of Sicily Syracuse is a historic city located on the southern east coast of Sicily founded by the ancient Greeks in 734 BC it quickly grew to become one of the most powerful Greek city states in the Mediterranean today Syracuse is a UNESCO world heritage site known for its Rich history archaeological treasures and Charming atmosphere from the port we had a short walk to the city center and I was immediately in love I’d been to Italy once before in 2019 but to Rome and to Milan and I could immediate tell that this city had a different vibe it was much more relaxed and it had that Mediterranean air about it we crossed a short bridge over to Oria which is the historic heart of Syracuse I feel like my eyes couldn’t really capture or my brain couldn’t process all that I was seeing it was it was stunning it was it was stunning I I I don’t know how else to put it it was stunning the p del Duomo or Cathedral Square is the main Square located in the heart of Oria it is one of the most pictures and Lively areas in the city characterized by its Charming streets elegant Baroque buildings and historical landmarks the square is dominated by the Magnificent Syracuse cathedral which is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary originally constructed in the fifth century BC as a Greek Temple dedicated to Athena it was later converted into a Christian Basilica in the 7th Century ad. inside visitors can admire beautiful chaples intricate frescos and the tomb of St Lucy the pain state of Syracuse this Cathedral is not only a place of worship but also a testament to the rich and layered history of Sicily we made our way through the town and encountered what I believe is the The Bluest water I’ve ever seen in my life there are several small cafes along the Waterfront we decided to sit down at a cafe for an apparal Spritz okay can we be honest for a second do you guys really like apparal spritzes because I felt like it tastes like cold medicine why are people drinking these but I was in Sicily so who cared I was going to drink it after having a cocktail we just wandered around the streets and took it all in the architecture the cute little balconies we could see people who were checking into airbnbs and I just thought wow what a place to spend some time the breakfast on the ship wasn’t my favorite and so after walking around for a few hours I was starving we stopped at a little restaurant across the street from the port and had some of the best pizza that I’ve ever had in my whole entire life late April or early May in my opinion is the perfect time to travel to Europe or to the Mediterranean the weather was perfect and there weren’t a lot of crowds the majority of the people walking through Syracuse actually came from our ship when you travel on a cruise and I’ve said this once and I’m going to say it again you really only have a limited amount of time and so you kind of have to prioritize what you’re going to see and what you’re going to do I can State emphatically that we did not have enough time in Sicily what walking through the streets really gave me a sense of Joy I absolutely love travel I love everything about it I love experiencing the new cultures I love trying new food I love seeing how other people live their lives and how their daytoday activities can be accomplished in ways that we couldn’t even imagine visiting new countries opens your mind up to all the possibilities of what life life could really be like and with each country I travel to I think hm would I want to live here and most of the time the answer is a resounding yes would I return to Sicily 100% absolutely and unlike Malta I would plan a trip to return specifically to Sicily so that I could see more of this beautiful city I hope you’ve enjoyed this video and I hope that even though it was a brief trip you’re able to get a sense of just how beautiful the island of Sicily and Italy is thank you so much for joining me and I will see you on the next video bye okay [Music]
