Dresden is the capital city of the German state of Saxony and its second-most populous city after Leipzig. It is the 12th most populous city in Germany, the fourth-largest by area (after Berlin, Hamburg, and Cologne), and the third most populous city in the area of former East Germany, after Berlin and Leipzig. Dresden’s urban area comprises the towns of Freital, Pirna, Radebeul, Meißen (Meissen), Coswig, Radeberg, and Heidenau and has around 790,000 inhabitants. The Dresden metropolitan area has approximately 1.34 million inhabitants. Dresden is the second-largest city on the River Elbe after Hamburg. Most of the city’s population lives in the Elbe Valley. The city’s name and most of its boroughs and rivers are of Slavic origin. Dresden has a long history as the capital and royal residence for the Electors and Kings of Saxony. For centuries furnished, the city with cultural and artistic splendor and was once, by the personal union, the family seat of Polish monarchs. The city was known as the Jewel Box because of its baroque and rococo city center. The controversial American and British bombing of Dresden in World War II towards the end killed approximately 25,000 people and many civilians and destroyed the entire city center. After the war, restoration work helped reconstruct parts of the historic inner city.
The Altmarkt is the oldest square in Dresden. The city’s market square planned for founding was first mentioned in 1370 as a circulus. Later documents called market in 1400, ring in 1410, and forum in 1452. Right next to it is the Kreuzkirche, the most important sacred building in the city for centuries. After a new market was created around 1550 due to the first urban expansion, the Neumarkt at the Frauenkirche, the large, central square was called the Alter Markt, or Altmarkt for short. Together with the Neumarkt, it is one of the most important squares in the city today. The Altmarkt is well-known nationally as the venue for the annual Striezelmarkt, one of the oldest Christmas markets in the world, which has been held since 1434.

Brühl’s Terrace (Brühlsche Terrasse) is a historic architectural ensemble in Dresden, Germany. Nicknamed “The Balcony of Europe,” the terrace stretches high above the shore of the river Elbe. Located north of the recently rebuilt Neumarkt Square and the Frauenkirche, it is one of the favorite inner-city places for locals and tourists to walk, watch, and have a coffee.

The Schloßplatz is a city square in the center of Dresden, Saxony, Germany. It gets its name from the Dresdner Schloss, the royal residence of the Electors and Kings of Saxony, which faces the south side of the square. The Schloßplatz is further bounded by the Katholische Hofkirche, the Sächsische Ständehaus, the Georgentor, and the Augustus Bridge over the River Elbe. Dating from the 15th century, the square was destroyed in the bombing of Dresden in World War II. In recent years the buildings surrounding the square have primarily been restored so that the area has a historical character.

Vladimir, thank you for the new video.
Dresden is my second favorite town after Prague
Super tour, super streets
Thanks Dear
I need to savor this for later in the day when I have more time. Thank you, Vladimir!
I've been around the world, hey hey
I've been around the world, hey hey
In the kitchen where I'm cooking what is good for me
Spices from the globe
Little by little, it's the finest meal
It's appetite for hope
Come and see
You mix it all together in your dreams
Ingredients from the Seven Seas, and I
I'm realizing things ain't what they seem
That's the riddle of it, that's the spirit of it
That's the power of life
I've been around the world ('round the world)
And I've seen it all (seen it all)
I've been around the world ('round the world)
The sun will always rise and fall
I've been around the world ('round the world)
And I wanted to see (see it all)
I've been the only girl ('round the world)
All surrounded by mystery
In the living room, I'm cleaning up from top to floor
The place I love the most
The wall is covered up with all my souvenirs
I got from coast to coast
Come and see
You mix it all together in your dreams
Ingredients from the Seven Seas, and I
I'm realizing things ain't what they seem
That's the riddle of it, that's the spirit of it
That's the power of life
I've been around the world ('round the world)
And I've seen it all (seen it all)
I've been around the world ('round the world)
The sun will always rise and fall
I've been around the world ('round the world)
And I wanted to see (see it all)
I've been the only girl ('round the world)
All surrounded by mystery
I'm still coming around (I keep chasing dreams)
Girl, I keep coming around (hey hey)
I keep coming around (and I can never stop)
Girl, I keep coming around
'Cause if I do, I'll walk
Around, around
Mm, around the world
I've been around the world ('round the world)
Hey, hey (I seen it all)
I've been around the world ('round the world)
All surrounded by mystery
I've been around the world ('round the world)
And I've seen it all (seen it all)
I've been around the world ('round the world)
The sun will always rise and fall ('round the world)
Great walk video tour throughout beautiful hot Thursday summer season Prague Czech Republic ☀️ 👍 🇨🇿
Unlike Prague, which dates back to the time of Charlemagne, Dresden has nothing left of history, even though its city centre has been rebuilt identically, stone by stone.
The last bombing campaigns by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War were a historical mistake, totally unnecessary, by a totally cornered Third Reich, a stupid butchery without a name, without any strategic goal, where only civilians paid a heavy price, as is unfortunately often the case.
However, this reconstruction is magnificent, With these sectors paved with all splendor, these animations, these cafes, these restaurants and hotels, allows you to enjoy a magnificent setting. I also invite you to head towards the Central Station, to see an architectural marvel.
Like Prague, which was still under communist rule 40 years ago, Prague had a past to look back on.
Enjoy your stay in Dresden, Frédéric, in South Brittany
👍
Thank you,for the change of scenery. Interesting city. 🖖
My partner and I go to Dresden for shopping sometimes- it's cheaper than Prague. Post war reconstruction just doesn't have the look and feel of original cities, though. I do like the VW factory and tour, however.
When I visited Prague, I passed on a day trip to Dresden. However, I never regretted it, as my day in Prague was fantastic and I saw much I would have missed otherwise; I do hope I get a second chance someday. -Rob
Vladimir, you are taking us far from Prague now😀 I have been in Dresden as a child and remember nothing of it. I am glad you showed us the downtown and Zwinger . Mom really appreciated to see places she visited in Dresden😀❤️🇨🇿🇺🇸
