Been to Oktoberfest a long time ago, either in 2011 or 2012. I loved the national costumes. I heard that many people prepare them a year before the festival. And they book their seats a year in advance.
Even living in the Czech Republic, where they also brew beer and love it very much, I was surprised that you can't buy less than a liter of beer at the festival. At least at that time.
I am not a big fan of alcohol, but as a traditional festival with its own traditions, I respect Oktoberfest very much.
