Tour du Mont Blanc Day 12: Magical Music at Lac Blanc & Our Unexpected Arrival in Chamonix

Day 12 of our Tour du Mont Blanc adventure started after a sleepless night, as strong winds battered our tent. Thank goodness for those guy lines we secured! Despite the restless night, we woke to a stunning sunrise over Mont Blanc, enjoying our breakfast of porridge and coffee perched on a rock, soaking in the breathtaking views.

Packing up camp and leaving no trace behind, we headed up to Lac Blanc. Approaching the lake, we were greeted by the enchanting sound of panpipes played by a fellow hiker, filling the air with a peaceful and serene melody. The combination of music and the surrounding beauty was a moment we won’t soon forget. We couldn’t resist stopping at the Refuge du Lac Blanc for a warm drink and a bite to eat, even though we’d just had breakfast! The views were too good not to linger a little longer.

We spent the morning exploring both lakes, taking in the incredible alpine scenery, before making our way down to La Flégère. Our original plan was to camp at Bellachat and continue on the TMB, but the weather forecast for the evening called for thunder and lightning. Having already endured extreme winds, subzero temperatures, snow, and torrential rain, we decided it was best not to chance it with a storm on our final night.

Instead, we took the cable car down to La Praz and walked into Chamonix, where we booked a last-minute hotel to end our Tour du Mont Blanc on a safe and relaxing note. It wasn’t the way we’d planned to finish, but after the challenges of the past few days, it felt like the perfect way to close out this incredible journey.

Join us for a peaceful yet unforgettable day on the TMB, complete with mountain lakes, beautiful music, and a final decision that brought us safely into Chamonix!

    1. I like the way you camped and had luxury stays. It looks unforgettable. Life should be full of such experiences. It goes too quick. If I do this, I want a trip like this.
