Come with us on a tour of the Fukagawa Enmado temple in Tokyo to learn about The Great Kind Enma (Enma Daio). There we will see murals and learn about the Japanese view of the afterlife, underworld, life after death!

In this video, we’re diving into the fascinating world of Enma Daio, the legendary figure from Japanese mythology who rules the underworld and judges the souls of the deceased.

Known for his scowling red face and traditional robes, Enma Daio embodies both justice and compassion, often depicted as a stern but fair ruler.

Several popular anime characters are inspired by Enma Daio, including:

King Yama in Yu Yu Hakusho, who oversees the afterlife and judges souls.

King Enma in Dragon Ball Z, where he manages the gates of heaven and hell.

Zoro’s sword Enma in One Piece, named after this mythical figure, symbolizing power and judgment.
