Pallonaro!!!!
Loved the humor and the reality of heat, crowds, trash and thieves.
Sorry you guys got pickpocketed. Police officers in Rome are useless, they are there to flirt with American tourists.
Yup. Typical major city. Positives and negatives. I love Roma. 🇮🇹🇺🇸
Maybe you could let us know how you were pickpocketed, what you may have done wrong… you mentioned complacency… and what you would do differently.
great review. love the REALNESS!!!
As to how we got pickpocketed, it happened when we were about to get off the bus. If you can see between 11:05 and 11:06, the phone is protruding from Kiel’s right pocket. He was checking maps for directions and just shoved it in when he realised it was our stop – he normally has it in a deeper front pocket. I had my eyes on his belongings until that moment when the man standing on the right "shoved" his backpack on my face blocking my view as I was getting up and someone also bumped onto Kiel on the doorway. I got off the bus but he stayed behind as he felt the phone slide out of his pocket. By some miracle, we found each other among the crowds as he got off the next stop. He asked the other passengers in the bus if anyone saw anything but with no luck. The bus was crowded and it was difficult to discern who the culprit was but, our guess is, it wasn’t just one person and the man with the backpack standing on the right was probably a part of it. As to what we would do differently, we wear front packs now with covered zippers. The only things in our pockets would be public transportation tickets and some lose cash. We also don't bring our wallets to minimise the risk. Another thing we forgot to mention in the video was we saw an emptied almost-new laptop bag and a wallet in one of the trash bins – we actually took it out to check if there's any ID but found nothing. And in the Carabinieri station, a family just arrived in Rome but the man's wallet and car keys were stolen when they were eating in a restaurant. We would have more footage and a longer story to tell but pressing record was not in our minds at that point in time. We feel sorry for the people who lost more. – Azra
I would have been pickpocketed, but I was wearing cargo pants and I could feel the kid trying to open the pocket.
