Kiel-Südfriedhof ist ein zentral gelegener Stadtteil, der vor allem durch seinen historischen Friedhof, urbane Wohnstrukturen und eine enge Verbindung zur Innenstadt geprägt ist. Der Stadtteil verdankt seinen Namen dem Südfriedhof, der seit dem 19. Jahrhundert als letzte Ruhestätte vieler Kieler Bürger dient und mit seinen alten Grabmälern und Parkanlagen eine ruhige, fast parkähnliche Atmosphäre ausstrahlt. Heute ist der Stadtteil ein lebendiges Wohngebiet mit einem Mix aus Altbauwohnungen, modernen Wohnanlagen und einigen Gewerbebetrieben. Besonders entlang der Saarbrückenstraße und der angrenzenden Straßen sind zahlreiche Mehrfamilienhäuser aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert zu finden, die das Stadtbild prägen. Durch seine zentrale Lage ist der Stadtteil verkehrstechnisch hervorragend angebunden: Mehrere Buslinien durchqueren das Viertel, und die Nähe zum Hauptbahnhof macht Südfriedhof besonders attraktiv für Pendler.
