ISTANBUL FOOD TOUR: 24 Hours of Exploring and EATING Incredible TURKISH FOOD in TURKEY!
In this week’s video, we spend 24 hours eating incredible Turkish food in Turkey. Welcome to our delicious Istanbul food tour!
We start our day at Pişi Pişi Kahvaltı with one of our favorite things in the world—Turkish breakfast!
From here, we walk down to Taksim Square to admire the Taksim Mosque and Taksim Monument.
We then make our way towards Cihangir, where we used to live, to try out some Turkish sweets, simit, coffee, and tea. Since we were already in the neighborhood, we decided to visit our old apartment to check in on some of our favorite street cats.
It’s now time to grab the ferry over to Kadıköy, on the Asian side of Istanbul. For our first stop, we head to Halil Lahmacun for some lahmacun and pide.
After trying so many delicious foods, we decide it’s not time for a drink. We head to Draft to grab some cheap happy hour beers. We also try Lion’s Milk, the national drink of Turkey.
Next up, we head to 1971Doner to try one of the most iconic street foods of Turkey—the doner kebab.
For some dessert, we head to Meşhur Dondurmacı Ali Usta for some Turkish ice cream.
After finishing our ice cream, we take a stroll along the water, then take a quick break to sit with some local street cats.
We end the day at Duranoğlu Baklava with some Turkish Delight.

We loved revisiting Istanbul after having been gone for multiple years. It is still as vibrant and fun as last time around and the food is even more delicious than we remember 😊. Unfortunately, it seems like the Pişi Pişi breakfast place we visited in the beginning of this video is temporarily closed. If anyone in Istanbul knows why, let us know. It's a shame and we really hope it opens again since the breakfast there was absolutely amazing! Also, let us know what your favourite Turkish food is, as well as any good restaurants in Istanbul. So Jealous! Agree, there is nothing like a Turkish breakfast. My cousin is married to a Turkish gentleman, lived there for years. Moved back to Boston and we would host a booth at fairs to support the Turkish student community. Going out to eat with them was the best! Only a handful of places. So want a Donar kabab now. Love cats! Had one that looked like Marble. Hello from rainy Oregon. Happy Pi(e) Day!

They are non-stray street cats, they are looked after by the community. They roam in and out of each house they like, the cats over there literally choose their own owners, it tends to be around five. These 'owners' that they choose could be merchants/shops or households. In order to adopt a cat from there, you really need to speak to the other caretakers, otherwise they will think something happened to them.

Pizza simit is not very common, I think it is something made by the Tarihi Cihangir Simit Bakery but it looks very delicious. Have a great trip!
About rakı, it’s not supposed to be drank like a beer. You get together with your friends, have all kinds of mezes on the table, play some music on the background, have all night long conversations sipping a bit of it and eating mezes alongside. Also it goes great with grilled fish imo, but I wouldn’t judge anyone who doesn’t like it cos I think it’s an acquired taste like ayran, şalgam etc. Oh and also some people drink şalgam juice together with rakı.
Glad you enjoyed your stay btw, makes me happy to see people experiencing our dishes and culture. One last thing, the areas you’ve been to like Cihangir and Kadıköy are like the most expensive areas in Türkiye. I suggest anyone who plans to visit Türkiye to avoid touristic cities and tourist trap shops for much better experience on culture for much less money even though you’ll have a bit problem with communication cos of lack of English speakers.

compared to your local currency, turkey is still cheap to the tourists but unfortunately getting expensive everyday for locals. BTW that cheese is called "tel peyniri" or "çeçil".

26:05 Originally We Turks dont use sauce in Döner because the Döner meat is already juicy.. In Germany, the first Turkish chefs modified the original DÖner with sauce because Western people likes the sauce.. The Turk chefs made their döner with additional sauce version for Western people.. Both of them are good <3
About the place at 27:19 "Ali Usta" and "Meşhur Dondurmacı"… The place's name is "Ali Usta".. That means "Master Ali" ..Like Icecream master… Also "Meşhur Dondurmacı" means "Famous IceCream man / İceman"..

In Istanbul you have to search for good food but in the smaller cities of Turkey you can hardly find bad food.

OMG after watching this we really wanna go to Istanbul!!! Turkish food is just amazing!! Would kill for a Doner + baklava and Turkish coffee combo meal rn! 😂 Dav was there.a few years ago and it's one of the most beautiful cities he's seen. J would probably never want to leave because of the cats 😅
