I would suggest that both Malaysia and Sri Lanka are great long stay destinations .. easy to do 3 months+ in Malaysia/ Borneo and 1-2 months in Sri Lanka.. and both are good value for retirees . Also consider Indonesia (Java , Bali, Lombok ) – great diving in Indo.
During which season (winter at all?) did you visit these "long term" places?

i'm wanting to get out of the usa while trump destroys our democracy. i just bought a fixer upper mansion in a small town. i have a lot of belongings to deal with. i have no idea how to do this. ii am retired on 3 pensions & am afraid of any of them going lower. i am in nys on a usar & state pension i do not want to get stranded in another country because of untenable payments from any of them. i want to start out close by & work my way to slow traveling. i have middle aged cats i am bringing with me. i can sell my home, i got a 20 years mortgage so i could sell it & get a decent profit quicker. i don't know where to turn for advice. could you point me in the right direction? i love traveling & have been on a few ceruises & have my passport that has about 8 years left on it. thank you for anything you can offer me as far as advice.
I would add Brazil, the natural beauty alone is mind blowing, in particular sailing around ilha grande (sp?big island). There about 380 islands there. The carnival is also incredible. The downside is crime in the big cities.
When recommending places I think it's important to recognize what might be safe for you may not be safe for others. As a Latina Poland would be extremely unsafe for me as the rise in white nationalism has created a dangerous environment for those who are not white.
I am Robert age 70 and 275 pounds and want to lose weight also my health is ok. I want to Visit a Country for 3 months to lose weight and to get in better health. I want a SAFE, and warm weather in the months of Dec-March. Please help and thank you. Also I want a hotel/resort that I can have things to do.

To my surprise Turkie, or Turkey is not in your list, just next door to Greece. Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Antalya and more wonderful places to visit, and enjoy. Or may be you are discriminating.
What about Georgia? (the country, not the state).
You need to live in Malaysia 🙂 Luxury living for a steal (due to our weak currency), incredible diversity of food, safe and clean, incredible shopping malls and multi-cultural society. The main downside? The heat and humidity! However, we live and travel in air-conditioned comfort and the weather is great for the skin!
I'd be interested in a little more on how you find your accomodations for a month plus and full cost of 3 months? For example, if you started in Chicago, cost for 90 days in New Zealand or Costa Rica, all in, including flights?
