S-5 Alps & Pyrenees – Part 07 – Lost in France?
the next bit of Road looks very interesting indeed I’ll hopefully put up a photo of what the route looks like over the next few kilometers it is so hair pinny welcome folks it’s Nick here start of day eight on our way to castres in France just leaving ales I think it is a l s in France and we’ve got 3 11 km to go as usual started off immediately lost the group I don’t know what it is about leaving towns but people forget the buddy system make sure the person behind sees where they’re going happens far too frequently anyway beautiful day looking forward to some great roads and as a group we might even stick together for most of it today let’s let’s see how it works out I have a feeling no crystal ball here I have a feeling it will break down fairly quickly but I know where I’m going so it doesn’t matter pretty Town Al is we’re just a couple of kilometers really out of ales and already the road has become very twisty quite cool 14.5 de quite refreshing it’s funny at times on a motorcycle you seem to you think you’re traveling really really quickly and perhaps you are but there’s a white van behind us who’s just loping along keeping up quite easily what a glorious day that St come on John there for It’s A Very Old Town up on the hill some very pretty towns here the next bit of Road looks very interesting indeed I’ll hopefully put up a photo of what the route looks like over the next few kilometers it is so hair pinny there’s potentially a coffee stop in 2 km so hopefully we’ll have a bit of a break there being 11:00 and then continue on right I’m going to concentrate on the road and not think about coffee oh it’s an actual Bend sign that must mean something right it certainly does look at that wo well that coffee stop has disappeared it was meant to be 2 km it’s now showing the next one is 11 so obviously didn’t really exist never mind really is quite some view from up here bit of a Viewpoint from up here no coffee but a Viewpoint enough yeah we’re all going to take the same photos again actually it’s not a n will stop for a photo well we have stopped for a coffee breid hopefully they’re open stop for coffee very nice it was to White of water and just setting off but it’s uh 10 minutes to 12 and we’ve covered 86 km I think and I think this is a ski Village during the winter beautifully cool up here in the mountains yeah we’re about 1230 M altitude 18° bit of shade Sun shine dry roads glorious I’m trying not to mumble I keep mumbling DP it right back to the journey how about this review massive wow look at that look at that Valley beautiful there’s a sign a yellow sign saying route bar 5 km I reckon that’s the road is closed in 5 km any guessing that’s a magnificent Bridge wow look at that fabulous so John stopped to take a photo Nigel had stopped too wow and yes it looks like this road is closed in a couple of kilometers there was a diversion sign there but it’s nice to see the bridge from underneath I think we’ll probably turn around and see it from the other side wow look at those buildings up there built into the Rock amazing what a town there’s a set of traffic lights we’ve just come through I’m not sure whether the road is actually closed at all times or just certain times of the day I think we’re through it oh this doesn’t look promising this looks like a road closed oh yep but you know how I like a good closed Road oh really well I won’t advertise it but looks like we’ve got through it pretty here River to the left it’s very uh inviting getting quite hot now 25° I think there was supposedly a petrol station about 14 km away from those Road works it’s disappeared and now the closest one is 68 km according to my Garmin device which would put me at about 2 80 kilom which is going to be a little bit tight I think why you know I think it should be okay I think I’m getting 20 km per liter and I think it’s a 17.4 l tank so in theory should be fine let’s not worry about it let’s hope it doesn’t uh materialize well found some petrol and the fuel light come on but it won’t tell me how many miles down or kilm okay 225 km 10.5 l so it is about 20 km per liter 17 L time on our way again hopefully we’re going to stop for some food it’s uh 20 past 2 so it’s getting a bit late for lunch experience has taught me that most places shut at two in Europe especially this time of year which is out of season the end of September and that fuel stop was just a pump no shop so we couldn’t even get any food there anyway enjoying the ride got fuel John’s happy cuz he was running low too like a good we stopped for lunch in Santa freak and a little bonger at a piece of pizza and a coke and the other side something similar that was nice but now we’re on our way again but heading directly to the Hotel this time rather than following the rout well this isn’t Fun big piece of uh repairs is just the loose gravel on top of everything maybe for half a kilometer oh no more of it here as well just not nice wonder how long this goes on for not too long thankfully well this is a turn up for the books at the last Junction my garan wanted us to go right but we’ve gone left and then right along this little tiny Road very nice it is too I don’t know whether it’s a shortcut I assume it is very pleasant though through the countryside ooh grass in the middle of the track this is indeed a rather unused Road I would say nice though we’re now in Castries which is where we’re staying the night just hot uh locating the hotel I think we’ve got it let’s hope this Is It Anyway if I don’t speak to you later I’m sure we’ll find the hotel eventually all it leads me to do is say bye for now
This is part 7 of 10 of my trip to France & Spain riding through the Alps and Pyrenees in a group. Today we leave Ales and head to Castres, once again, the roads, scenery and weather couldn’t have been better.
Hoping you can “Like” the video, as this does help the channel.

Great video Nick. Whats the trusty 500x coming back? Ride safe
I do enjoy these hairpins and try to see how smooth i can go around them, a bit like a waltz 🤣🤣🤣 that was a great route you followed today, such beauty.
gorge du tarn is nice but you shoulda made it onto the bridge/autoroute for pics (shh) the view is amaziing
I’m not sure if you have already discussed this Nick, however after doing solo trips and now a group ride, what is your preferred amount of riders for a tour? My view would be 2 or 3 people would be ideal as it’s company to share the adventures and also to assist for any problems.
After 6 minutes I kept thinking of the Bonnie Tyler song!🤗. Great scenery in that part of France..many other parts of France too.
What a gorgeous route; plenty of sweepers and hairpins to enjoy! Sometimes getting lost leads to some most interesting discoveries. Looks like the group stayed together better on this segment than the last segment. BTW, I purchased a new NX500 this past week for my son so he can join me on some of my trips. He’s been talking about getting a bike for several years and since I’m not getting any younger, I thought that this is the right time to get him riding again. He’s enjoying the ride and gaining confidence. The NX500 seems to be the perfect bike to return to riding. Looking forward to next week’s episode. Cheers, Jim
In order to make these trips even more memorable, you need a drone to capture these breath taking views. Hope you will buy one soon.
That’s a magnificent bridge. I really hope you knew it’s name.
