Full of Regret! We had no choice… Moto camping France
Good morning. Welcome back to On the Road Adventure. Then today it’s a well very wet morning. So we only stopped raining around 11:00. So we started getting ourselves ready. It’s around 1:00 now and we’re going to move on from the campsite 1:00 p.m. which is very In our defense though, we are now in France for the first day and so the time’s moved on an hour. So that explains why we got up an hour later. I don’t know. I just had a really good sleep. So I think that’s a great defense. I could definitely stay here another night. Our plan is to um try to see some sites as we go down through France, but if we’re honest, we’re in a haste to get down to where the sunshine is. So yeah, that’s really we’ll see. We’ll see Mount S Michael. I always wanted to see that. And then depending on the weather, we might be just moving very fast. So another stress that is adding to every day, every morning and packing is that we’ve got these bags and they’re not very packable, unfortunately. Are you all packed up, Rich? Yeah, pretty much. Last couple of bits. Our things fit in here with almost not an inch of space. So, it’s been a bit of a challenge, but it’s always hard at the start of a trip. And once we learn where everything goes in the right place, it’ll be fine. Be much quicker. Do you know what? I can’t help it. Every time I walk back to these bikes or see you on your bike, I can’t help it. I think these bikes just look awesome. I love how um utilitarian they look. All right, it’s time to set off then. Lovely campsite here. I’ll put me stand up. Yeah. Oh, it’s not like you’re on telly. Well, as campsites go, for a first night, that one was not bad at all. I mean, how many campsites have you been to with a lovely little lake like that and a chatau as well? Turn into a really nice ride this morning. It’s brightened right up. It’s a little bit windy, but the areas we’re going through today seem to be really pleasant. We really like these smaller roads instead of going on the main road. We’ve got about 10 kilometers left to St. Michael’s Mount. And we already start seeing it in the distance. It look I don’t know, but if we can see it from that far, it must be magnificent. We’ve seen Cormal’s equivalent one, but you can’t see that from 10 km away, I’m pretty sure. So, I think this one’s going to be much more impressive. There’s also a huge plane up there that’s been hanging around. I’ve been watching him for a while, and he’s been looping round. That looks like a military plane, doesn’t it? We’ve been riding for a while, and we’re going round the St. Michael Mound, but not quite getting there. So, I think you cannot actually ride any closer to it. I think it’s more of um cycling and walking path. So, we’re going to have a look on the map. Hope there’s a good coffee. Well, I don’t know. I’m not too optimistic. It did come out of a coffee bag pressed in like an espresso machine instead of a pot. But in fairness, they don’t look too bad. We parked our bikes right here and the St. Michael’s mount it’s back there. Now when we were riding all you can see it’s those fields and fields and you know some blogs has cows and I’m just thinking every morning you get to see the St. M’s mount when you’re feeding your cows and others that that seems cool. So, I just assumed that this mount is going to be somewhere more like in Cornwall where you have a town right on the edge of it and then you bit of water and then you get the mount in here. You’ve got a cycle path and a walking path. Um, I think you could take a bus as well, but that means walking, a lot of walking and we definitely not ready for it with our motocross shoes. So, we’re going to pass on that. But I’m sure there will be another time in the future when we’re going to when we get to do it. So Monet Michael’s about a kilometer off the coast here. So you can get there as Eva said, you got to get a bus to do some walking and malarkey, but it looks like it’s a whole day out. There is um shops and restaurants and things there on the island as well as the uh monastery stuff. Yeah. So there is around what 30 to 20 to 30 people that live on the island. And then you’ve got monks and nuns and they ran all the shops and restaurants and stuff like that. And I found that story of how the mount Michael’s mount was built very interesting. You just told me that, didn’t you? Yeah. So good old chat GBT says in 708 AD. According to legend, the archangel Michael appeared to Albert, Bishop of Avanches and instructed him to build a church on the rocky island. And so we did. So back in the day, all you needed is just to have some credibility, crazy dream. Yes. Have a word in your head. Dream and just say that a god spoken to you or an angel and that’s it. Do you know what? Well, I’m glad it I’m glad it happened. Yeah, exactly. Whether he was barking man or God or whatever the archangel did speak to him, the result is that amazing building over there, which must have been a mammoth of task to build that. So I I do really like the idea that everything like the farms and the farmland around it. There is no crazy hotels built up all around it because as you know in some countries the government would have gladly allow it. We almost expect that now. We thought we were going to drive right up to it, sit on the wall and you know have a coffee and look at it. I mean yes I cannot get close to the St. Michael’s mount with my bike but I’m glad it is kept like it is right now. Yeah it does make sense. natural and how it probably very close to how it was 1,300 years ago. Well, in our motocross boots, we’re not interested in walking out alone to be honest. I think if you are going to do that, you’re going for the full day anyway, you know, and go for the full experience and um yeah, we’d rather ride our when we can ride no more. This is where we come in when we bring the motor over, get somebody to push you in your wheelchair along, not have to walk anymore. Well, there we go. Mont St. Michael or St. Michael’s Mount. Which is better, France or Cornwall? I have to say the one here in France does look much more impressive to look at, but I think it’s uh easier accessed in Cornwall. And you can sit there and have a proper Devon Pasti with it as well. I’ll always remember I took Eva there once and had a Cornish pasti. we haven’t been together very long. And I give it to her and she slides it out the bag and takes a munch right out the center out because you told me the crust was created for the miners. So when they have the dirty hands so I thought you hold the fattest part of the crust and that’s your handle as if right. Well technically speaking that is right. That is why the crust was there. Yeah, for the dirty miner’s hand. But yeah, a normal person would slide just the top bit out the bag and, you know, start eating it from the end. They even took it straight in the middle. Well, I just wanted to get to the good stuff straight on, didn’t I? We were just saying that around here, we’ve seen a lot of places that appear to be set up for van life. And here’s another example of one. And there’s just a sign on the front there, β¬18 per 24 hours. And we’ve seen several like that where they’re just sort of um concrete areas and things. I think they got some basic wash facilities there, but that’s about it. In the UK, they’re trying to ban it everywhere, but it does seem, we’ve noticed this before in Europe, they’re embracing the van life thing and the motor homes. So, we’re just going to stop here. I’ve seen from the road a long shop. It says sandwiches and salads and all sorts of things. So, we’re going to stop here and grab ourselves a little bit of lunch. Really nice riding this morning though. We were just saying that we haven’t done this area of France before and it feels really relaxed cuz usually when we come through France it’s all the main roads to Liil and onwards down south isn’t it? Yeah, I’m pretty sure I was either talking to someone or I’ve seen it somewhere on Facebook. Um, someone was saying that France is the best country to be a motorcyclist and I can see a big difference between this region we are in which is is this still Normandy? But this but this this way the the difference between here and where you ride towards Liil is is a completely different. Everyone seems to be a bit more relaxed down here. I don’t know France that well to know whether it’s true or not, but it just um more more easy going I think in here. Yeah. You come bearing gifts. Yeah. Not much left but some baguettes with cheese in hand. Very nice too. What else do you expect to find in France? This is now our table here. Well, I don’t know. I’ve got a sweet thing each. Yeah. Some sort of chocolate cake thing and an apple. And I thought since this baguette is so big, we might just share it. We did notice in every village here that we’ve driven by, there’s a petissery and a baguette shop. And we wondered whether the French do the same as we would do in England with a baguette and just make sandwiches and stuff for lunchtime cuz I watched guys go in there. We were there yesterday and people were coming going in and buying like five or six of these huge baguettes. So I don’t know what they do with it, but interesting to find out. I do love a baguette. There it is. Your baguette. We’re just on the outskirts of Ren now. By the looks of it, things got a little bit more busy. But do you know what? Where we stopped just now, we didn’t realize it, but it looked like it was sort of like the um shopping area or a square of a housing area. Nice flats and things around it. It looks like a really pleasant place. I definitely prefer the villages of France, but this is quite nice as well. I’m sort of like stuck in the middle. I’ve always been a city boy, so I like to have things, you know, available and on your doorstep, but I also like things to be a bit quiet as well. I think you could get away with living in one of the smaller towns in France, though, because it seems to us when we go through there’s hardly anybody about. That seems to be the case in a lot of Europe. So, somewhere hidden here, there it is. I can see it. Is the Moto Legends factory, which is a a bar/c coffee type place. We’re hoping we can come here and relax a little bit, have a nice drink, and we need to do a few bits on the computers. I reckon all this is customer parking, and there’s bikes down there. Should go down there by the windows where we can see it. Yeah. We got a new alcohol-free beer here, a French one that we haven’t tried yet. We love to try the things that we haven’t had before. So, it’s nice to find a new one. We like some Spanish, some Portuguese, zero, and some other countries. So, and I don’t think I ever had the French one. Thank you. Heat. Heat. This place is amazing. We only dropped in to get a coffee and do some stuff on the computer. There are so many bikes here and petrol tanks of all kinds. And you know, if a if a biker was going to decorate a cafe, this is exactly what he would do with unlimited money. is awesome. Heat. Heat. Heat. There’s even a tattoo shop in here. I’m sure we can temp for something. I just asked about the cortado which cortado is like a tiny espresso with a bit of milk. Anyway, so I just found out that in France they call it no no. No. Okay. I don’t know how to read it. No, it’s like going to Wales being in France, isn’t it? You can’t pronounce anything. No. No. No. It’s basically an espresso with a bit of milk. So, if you want something close to Cortado, you ask him. No. Your biscuit’s got my name on it. Is it? Yeah. That’s mine. Well, it’s really, really nice to sit here. All I found out is that um this place is privately owned and the guy owns every motorcycle that is in here and he just so he doesn’t build them himself or anything like that but he knows the right people if he wants anything built. There is some collection here and tell there’s vintage racers and all kinds of things there. Some really nice bikes. Yeah. And the tanks as well actually. He’s got a nice collection of um some really old genuine tanks and Harley tanks. So, a nice Tener tank up the top. Really? And they all look absolutely mint as well. So, I don’t know if they’ve been restored or you know how they come to be in such good condition, but they’re really nice. This place looks really good. It’s like a bike shed but in France. Yeah, it’s a tattoo shop around there and clothing and all the rest all that. Very cool. Um, I also had a look on the map and it looks like this area it’s quite big on motorcycles because there is another cafe for motorcycle team not far away from here and there’s few motorcycle clothing shops. Well, there’s loads of motorcyclists in this area. Well, that place was absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed that in there. That’s called the Moto Legends Factory here in uh Rens, France. If ever you’re coming through, stop by for your lunch and whatnot, but do not expect to be gone in an hour because there’s so many cool bikes and things to see in there. You’re going to have a good walk around and have a good look at everything. And I don’t blame you. That was really good. Bonavville there, I think. 2120. Right. How do we get out this way? I think maybe. So, I have called up a campsite while we were sat there. It looks uh like a small, clean, basic type of place. Very good. But the lady says that she is going home in 40 minutes. But not to worry. Sort yourself out. Come and pay me in the morning. Can’t ask them more than that, can you? Don’t know how we’re going to get in through the barrier, but I’m sure there’ll be someone. There’s always a way for a biker to get in. We don’t let things like barriers stop us. You got an off-road bike now, Eevee. You can go anywhere. Oh, yeah. That’s true. I’ve seen Parez jump up on top of buildings and things. So, if you can’t get over a little small barrier, I think there’s a problem. There must be a button in the settings here somewhere for barrier jumping. Oh, hello. Nearly got squished, didn’t you? I tell you what, we have got it good. Now, you get away from the most northern part of uh France and we get away from all that wind that we were getting from the channel and now it’s really nice. Bike reckons it’s 23Β° now. I saw 25 earlier and it’s starting to feel like it. And yeah, it’s generally just a really good time plotting through rural France. It’s a massive difference to yesterday and clouds and rain and so we made a good choice to move on south. Even though we haven’t moved that far, but the weather is improved massively. We’ve only got about 20 minutes ride time now left back to the campsite. And I don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s the time of day or something. But I really enjoy the last part of the ride each time. I always feel a little bit sorry that it’s going to be over soon. I can just carry on riding more and more. But maybe it’s this time of day when the sun’s starting to go down and you know that’s just really pleasant. Can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be right now. Well, sunsets our best, but that doesn’t solve every problem today because we didn’t buy anything for dinner. I say we shall skip it. I say we will find a really nice restaurant right next to the uh campsite serving beef borginon and dolphin wild potato. Hey, a man can dream. It might be. That just might be. I don’t know. I have a feeling that there will be no shop on the way back either. On the way between now and the campsite. I am remaining positive. Let’s see. So, we’re just coming into the last towny sort of area from where the campsite is. So, we’re really hoping we’re going to find either a shop or a little restaurant or something so we can get some food. Yeah, we’ll head for the main bit. And if we don’t see anything obvious, have to get on the phone and see what’s nearby. All right, let’s park up where all these cars are. There’s a shop. It’s going to be, I reckon. It is a cafe of some sort. Beastro. Don’t think they’ll be doing food. Really? We want to enter my shelf someone. Well, we are leaving empty-handed. It does appear that that is just a bar, not a uh cafe or beastro despite its name. So, we have two options. not take it or leave it. We either can go three or four kilometers back in the direction to we came, which leads to a fancy restaurant, which they think might be open, or one of the local lads there drinking says there’s a kebab shop this way. And I reckon that’s the uh the safer bet. So, we’re going to go a few kilometers this way and see if we can find this kebab place. Turns out that supermarket shut at 7:30 here. We don’t know if that’s just today or um if that’s an everyday thing, but we’ll be more aware of that tomorrow. No, I it’s every single day. I looked at the Google Maps. No problem. We are great adventurers and survivors. We’ll be all right. Well, looks like we’ve had a bit of luck. We have found M food. Looks like it’s a healthy kebab for tonight’s tea. But, you know, that’s what happens in it. Well, that worked out all right to be fair. We had a a good kebab. Feeling full of regret now, like you do when you’ve been to the kebab shop, but it’s always a treat, isn’t it? And to be fair, beggars can’t be choosers. Yeah, this was the only option we had. Not the best, but better luck tomorrow. Yeah, we need to find a supermarket and do some healthy camp cooking tomorrow. Always enjoy that. Anyway, now we are heading off to find this campsite which is only a couple of kilometers from here. And then Eva’s going to demonstrate how you bunny hop over the barrier to get yourself in. There must be somebody English on the side to let you in. Hey, we’re joking now, but we might be proper stuffed when we get there. I can see online there is a barrier that blocks off. I’m pretty sure the guy on the phone earlier thought we were on bicycles, although I said motorbike several times. But we were saying just now, okay, it’s inconvenient for you if you don’t know that everything packs in and shuts early, but it’s really nice for the people that live and work here. I think I think people should have more of their own downtime, you know, and time with their families in the evenings and things. And if you know everything shuts at 7:30, that’s no no problem to you. Definitely. I think that’s the way it should be. We just been so spoiled in the UK because pretty much any day, anytime, you can get hold of whatever you really need. Yeah. But you say that spoiled, but the resulting fact of that is everybody’s working 40, 50, 60 hours a week. Oh, she’s got a trace of that guy. Another one come by now. That is the sound of an M07. That’s what your bike could sound like Eva if we did the exhaust system and pipe. I think they’re wicked. One of the best sounding engines on the market is a CPT when you’ve done the exhaust and everything. Right, this will be it then. It’s a nice looking place, isn’t it? Oh, they’ve left the barrier up for us. Nice. All right. Well, she said, “Pick yourself a spot. Sort yourself out, mate. Let’s have a lap.” There is a bench over there. Let’s go to the bench. That will be useful. That’s quite good. We have officially taken over this spot. Very nice. Packing everything. So, the towels didn’t dry this morning because it was raining. Then the top sheet of the tent is soaked inside and out. And I’m worried that if we just put that really wet uh top sheet on on the tent, it will start sort of sweating from inside and it’s just not going to be a pleasant night. So, we’re going to attempt to dry it. But is this going to dry? There’s nowhere to hang it really. Either way, you really can’t complain. If it turns out that this place is 11 or something, like you said on the phone earlier, it’s an absolute bargain. It’s less than half what we paid last night. We paid over β¬30 last night. It’s really pleasant here as well. There’s lots to have a look at the facilities, the shower and toilet and all of that, but so far it seems all right. You going to have a look around while I blow the beds up? I saw these um hats on the website on the Google reviews. So, I don’t know how much it is, but you can you open that and there is a bed inside and all. It’s a bit of a kitchen area. Can do your washing up, microwave, washing machine. Oh, look. It’s free of charge. and bring it on, which is a 15-minute cycle. It is quite a large campsite. It’s about 50 pitches here. Well, that’s including the four hats. That looks like toilet and shower block. All of this is right by the river. I’m going to have a sneaky look into lady’s toilet. See how good it is. Well, it’s not Hilton, but it all do. We’ve done showers in worse places to be fair, so this is good. This must be an interesting experience. I’ve seen online that both of those doors open and then you’ve got just a bed inside. I do think it’s pretty cool. I I would assume there is some sort of electricity in there as well. All this for 11 or 12. Maybe it’s per person, but we’ll know tomorrow morning. But either way, it’s pretty good. And we’ve got an electric hookup, which is quite good. We can charge up because of the rain last night, we didn’t actually manage to charge. It seems while Eva was walking around, she failed to mention one of the coolest things I think I’ve seen on any campsite for a long time. Have a look at this for a little grill and cooking area. So, they’ve put two grills here for anybody to use. Just put your charcoal in there. Look. How awesome is that? But I’ve never seen one like this before. So, it looks to me, tell me if I’m wrong, but I reckon you put the fire in the middle and this whole plate is going to heat up. So, you chuck your steaks and whatnot around there. I think that’s really cool that that’s included for anybody to use. I cannot wait for tomorrow. The weather looks like it’s going to be amazing. So, I really just want to go to sleep and wake up in the morning, make some coffee. And we know from experience that by going south the weather improves massively every single day. For now though, I am very pleased to have my Kais jumper right now. It was worth packing that one. Well, it was a bit of a difficult decision what to pack and what not to pack. But it’s hard cuz you you have to have something for, you know, really bad conditions, for cold conditions, wet conditions, and for when it’s really hot as well. But we’re so limited for space. All I know is I have two pair of two pairs of socks. I’m on my second pair today for the second day. So, I’ll see how many days I can squeeze out of my marina wool. I get so many questions um in the comments of videos about what it is that we pack and you know the things that we take and what we’ll do perhaps when we get time is we’ll do a proper unpacking of all our bags and gadgets and things and we’ll show you exactly what we got. Nothing special and how how you know tight it is. Yeah. Yeah, but you say that though. Everything that we’ve got, we’ve spent a long time researching and trying to find a smaller version of a lighter version, you know. So, and all these things, you know, they’re easy, but once you know how. So, anyway, for those interested, we’ll show you what it is that we use. But for now, we’re going to uh climb in the tent, do a bit more editing, and uh wait for the sunshine to come up again once more. Exactly. So, we’ll see you in the next one. I love you. Bye. Love you. Bye.

Rich do you think its wise to change my tyres with 2mm on them or leave ?
so good to see you back out on the road! Teneres look great. i am on the edge of trying out the new transalp… middleweight is the way forward.
Municipal sites are great, we have stayed in many. Will bookmark this one π
Another excellent episode guys
My mum was in Cornwall one year on a work holiday/training trip and told me she'd been to somewhere called St Michael's Mount. My first thought was "isn't that in France?".
What a great trip. It's great to see the campsites and your set up. When you say you have electric hook up can you maybe let us know what gear you have for the connection. Safe travels and cheers.
Rich & Ewa there so amazing just take your house on it this is life who needs to pay council tax when you can live wild lol
France, closed?
Non.
Sorry, Oui.
It's a great place ruined by people.
Although it may not feel this way, but when you are in the UK, you already are in Europe π So comparing the weather for example between the UK and Europe is impossible π So guys, if you must compare, then compare the UK and the Mainland of Europe, or Continental Europe : -) sorry guys, but it sounds so silly when you in your minds disconnect your self from Europe, when you never left Europe to begin with and whist you being Europeans yourselves ! π
Love the cafe, especially the Kawasaki Z1r, rode mine down to the south of France 2up camping.
You should have pegged the flysheet across the bikes once they've cooled.
Great video to watch and for me super nostalgic as I was born just west of Rennes and I can say Britanny is a beautiful place if you live countryside and itβs very motorbike area π if you like old town I would recommend to visit Dinan itβs old medieval town and nice area to visit π but anyway great to watch you visit France π«π· ride safe
It seems like only yesterday I subscribed to your channel when you were just above or below 1k subs, and you were talking about cooking breakfast on a camp stove.
How time flies.
Congratulations on over 60k subs, well deserved guys π.
You still seem the same (more polished and better accommodation but still the same).
Thanks for sharing.
See you on your next adventure π π€ π€.
Keep that rubber spinning π
Your luggage looks very sexy – but highly impractical. One large roll bag for instance makes life so much easy – but looks crap on the video. You should be going into the tesco equivalent shops and getting your food – bread meat cheese and making sandwiches at the bike. One goes into the shop whilst the other looks after the bikes. You then eat. Pastries – stop eating crap π, it bogs down your energy to ride further. You are lining yourself up for diabetes type 2 – just like I have so think about what you are eating π great vid π
It must have changed recently but thereβs always been a road and car park right up to Mont St Michel.
Drone up guys
When we was there there was a massive car park in a field great video btw π
French alps Pyrenees and north coast for war history.
Thatβs my best bits!
Carcason best example of a walled castle south west corner.
Heavy due in September ended our camping as tent was wringing in mornings.
What can you say about the seats; comfortable enough? Is the Tenere a good motorcycle for this kind of road travel?
Enjoyed that and you found another great, very reasonable campsite with some quirky features! Mont St Michel is fascinating but very busy, a few years ago we parked in the big car park and walked a short distance to it. The bike cafe looked amazing, my husband once had a Honda 750 he tells me, that one looked immaculate.
Enjoy Franch, the wife and I will be in devon next month, for 5 days, before heading to Switzerland. we are doing the riverboat tour up to Amsterdam, and stay in Amsterdam for a week, before heading back to the USA I rented a bike on both ends.
I live in France on the German border and ride a lot .. can I ask you to say where the campsites are even if itβs just the town/village ? The ones you have found are pretty good !
Hi Guys
Weather not too great today in Sardinia either.
Only 33c
Keep on crocing
ππ
Wash your socks in shower then wring them out if weather good n strap undies. Socks on top of ur luggage and itβs dry by late afternoon for next day.
You can ride all the way up to the mount.there car park there.
I'm heading to France on 29th June with my cousin. We're also doing Poole to Cherbourg. One place we plan on visiting is St Malo, so Renes Moto Legends looks like a good tip π. We'll be making our way up to come back on the channel tunnel, via some of the Normandy beaches. There is no real plan for our adventure. Just see where it takes us. I'm therefore really enjoying watching your adventure unfold.
Another brilliant video. Ride Safe my friends.
Years back you could park alongside Mont Saint-Michels but on my last visit you had to use car parks a little distance away but much nearer than where you were.
Digging the rock soundtrack there guys πΈ
Are you podcast / music listeners on the longer journeys?
You have much to learn about France but time spent there will teach you much. I love it but have to get my French head on as soon as I leave the port or I will starveπ Th wrench have it right I think. Love riding out there and once you have a handle on how they work it is the best place to go on your bike. It's my happy place and I need to get back very soon. Belgium is great as well with lots of interesting places. Try and take in a ride along the meuse River as it holds lots of history and beautiful places to sit and have a drink or a bite to eat. I wish I could take on some of the trips me and my mates have done over the years as you would love it. Teneres look greatπ
Another good watch β€ good to see you both in airvests ππβ€οΈ
Thanks for sharing guys. Glad you got away from the rain.
The ledgends Cafe was a great spot.
The camp site you ended up in was a bargain at $11 and looked clean and well maintained.
Enjoy the trip and stay safe
I'm impressed by the sound quality. was trying to get an airvest but I'm short so they are all ill fitting, very annoying those one's you are wearing are what I wanted but they are about five inches too long if they fit me over my jacket. glad you are wearing them they need to be made 'normal' part of gear. Was interesting about the soft panniers my husband and I are planning a big trip in October and looking at luggage. we will prepare to be annoyed initially in the organisation and packing. Really enjoying travelling with you. Hi from Australia.
