How Royal Caribbean MAIN DINING Room Works [2025 MENUS & Must-Know TIPS]
the dining options on a Royal Caribbean cruise can feel overwhelming to new Cruisers or those who are just new to this Cruise Line whether it’s figuring out how the dining options work snagging the perfect table or knowing what’s included I’m breaking it all down with some Insider tips to help you make the most of every meal and not to miss out on any hidden included perks and if this is your first time here welcome I am cat and I share cruising tips to help you make the best choices for your vacation so hit the Subscribe button and let’s dive in did you know that there’s a way that you can skip the weight for the table entirely even if you have my time dieting during the busiest dinner time well in this section I’ll walk you through how the main dining room works from seating options to table assignments and later reveal this little known trick that we discovered by accident last year the main dining room on real Caribbean ship is usually a large multi-level formal dining space with waiter service it is a complimentary dining venue but it also does include some premium options like lobster or fet minan that may come with the upch charge and I’ll mention them in just a minute in the main dining room you’ll find breakfast lunch on C days only and dinner served there for the traditional dining is where you choose a fixed seating times usually right now they’re around 5:30 p.m. in the evening or late dining time is 8:00 p.m. you have the same table the same weight staff every night and you are possibly seated with a group of other people who have the same assignment so it is perfect for consistency it is the same every night you know exactly what to expect uh this is where many people ask well what happens if you are late let’s say you have the 5:30 seating but you’re late from an Excursion and the rule is tables are usually for 30 minutes after that you may be seated somewhere else or you might need to go to MyTime dining line and wait with the rest of the myam dining people that did not reserve the table however if you are seated at the large table you definitely want to be really courteous and not be 30 minutes late because everybody’s already starting to eat their appetizers it really messes up with the dining room staff if you’re really late to your table now the moneytime dining has flexible din in times and you can eat anywhere usually from between 6:00 to 9:30 or so and this is where you’re going to hear a lot of people say make reservations early to avoid waiting especially if you want to eat between those peak times of 6:30 to 8:00 or so and guests without reservations can still eat you just will expect to have a longer wait time just like in a busy restaurant at home when you walk up there they might say Hey you have 30 minutes 40 minutes wait and you stand there and wait in line just like you would on land so what is interesting what we found out is that if you reserve the same time from my time dining every night you might be assigned the same table so if you let’s say every night you have a 7:00 you will actually have that printed right on your key now you have to assign it ahead of time before you’re bored but it’ll be right on your key and in that case you don’t want to have to wait in any line at that point after the first night that will show you where your table is and you can walk right in just right by everybody waiting on both lines whether they reserved or not now one key for table assignments is that you definitely want to check your table location on your Cass card on embarcation day and then go there and check out the table and if you want to make any changes that’s the time to do it you can ask for better locations like a table near the window or maybe if you want to have a table for two that the perfect time to ask sometimes they can accommodate those sometimes they cannot now we have never had a problem getting a table for two but we have had problems with getting Tables by the window all right so now that you know how it works what do you actually get for free and there are plenty of options to eat on the main dining room menu from unlimited appetizers to pretty much unlimited desserts now there are a few sneaky upcharges that are in there and so let’s discuss what is included in your menu most menu items including appetizers Entre and desserts are included you also have drinks like water coffee tea lemonade and Juice the extra items are going to be the alcoholic drinks soda or any premium options now if you do have a drink package they will be covered and you can order them in the main dining room as part of your drink package or you can just pay for them so if you want a cocktail with your dinner you can absolutely order one they will bring you one from the bar and they’ll bring the receipt to pay for it well some people say that the buffet is the place that they like because they can get as much food as they want in the main dining room you can absolutely order as many items as you want multiple appetizers multiple Entre and multiple dessert there are only a few limitations to that with the most notable one being Lobster and on a lobster night they do not allow you to have unlimited Lobster anymore now you have to pay some $17 for the next Lobster if you want to have more than one now let’s get into one of my favorite topics and that is food so every night World Caribbean is going to have a themed menu but they also have the classics like chicken and steak every night on the menu that you can choose from and if you have special dietary needs or restrictions I have some must know advice from the cruise that we just returned from so let’s go over these themed menus the first night will pretty much always going to be the welcome aboard menu the second night is going to be France and it is one of my favorites it does have amazing food on it I’m not going to go into too much detail about the food just because this video would be really long so I’ll make other videos about specific menus then you have a number of nights that will usually rotate and they have a night from Mexico they’ll have a Caribbean night and they’ll have the Italy night on the sixth night of a 7-Day cruise is usually the second formal night or dress your best night is what they call it now and they have the Royal menu and that’s the menu with the lobster and then on the last night you will have the bone vage menu and as I mentioned before you have the non-themed options like chicken and steak that are available every day for breakfast you will find the classic things like pancakes omelets and smoked salmon and for lunch that happens on C days you will find some lighter options like brunch items or just launch sandwiches and paninis and soups and so on what is very convenient is that you will see the menu for every night in your world Caribbean app and that’s going to be at least a month before the cruise depending on a cruise ship you can log into your app you can see the menu and see what’s available and then from there you can decide whether you want to eat in the main dining room or do you want to try out a specialty restaurant or just go to the buffet they grab something to quick to eat if you’re looking for specific meals like vegetarian or vegan or you have any kind of strict dietary restrictions like glutenfree or kosher you can notify ribbon ahead of time they have a special needs form that you can email to them to request special meals however I will tell you this we just returned from a short cruise on a lure of the Seas and because of a current health issue I’m going through I had to stick to an almost sow f F diet or very low fat diet which was incredibly difficult to do and in the main dining room where we normally eat our meals which we usually do main dining room or the specialty dining restaurants we ended up for the first time in 10 years I ended up in the Wind Jammer for dinner on the last day because I just couldn’t eat the same thing every day that was available in the main dining room so I do feel that main dining room is provides an incred experience we love the more upscale environment there but if you have very strict dietary needs Wind Jammer can really be a good backup plan that will give you a lot more options and you don’t have to eat the same thing every day now let’s talk about some of my favorite tips to make the most of your main dining room experience and by the way if you have any other tips drop them in the comments I’d love to see what you like to do to make your main dining room experience more special so number number one is you can bring your own wine to the dining room and on Royal Caribbean each passenger that is an adult can bring a bottle of wine on embarcation but what you will also see many times people say well there’s a corkage fee of $15 or so in practice we always bring our wine with us to the dining room we have never been charged a corkage fee yet now this could change of course but you can easily just open your own wine before or you go to the dining room and still bring the wine in or just pour it in the glasses and walk in with the glasses already poured because you’re allowed to bring wine from one bar to another so nobody’s going to say anything about you walking in with glasses of wine number two is that you can make special requests so for example usually they offer you water for dinner but Kevin loves to have his sweet tea so he always asks for some iced tea with dinner and by day two or three they already know it they bring it without even being asked we also have specific bread if you’re a ro Caribbean fan you know that pumpkin bread that they have it’s amazing and they don’t always have it on every night so we let them know that we really love the pumpkin bread and somehow it magically appears in our Bread Basket most of the nights as long as it’s available number three even with my time dining you can request a specific table and you can request things like being somewhere by the window or somewhere just away from where most people are walking through to have a little more peace and quiet number four is you can take food to go I’m one of those people that I love my appetizer I love the main dish but then I never have room for dessert so if there’s a dessert that I really want to try I just ask them to make it to go right away before they even bring it out and they will bring it to me with the cover with the silverware I can take it to the room put it in the fridge and enjoy it in a couple hours and number five is the dress codes are rather flexible now there are a couple nights on a 7-Day sailing or at least one night on a 3 or 4 day sailing that is going to be called elegant night and they do recommend or suggest to wear something nicer like a Blazer or a dress and you will see though that many people don’t dress up now we personally love to dress up we do feel like it makes our dinner a little more special because we don’t have to do that many times at home but if you absolutely do not not want to dress up you might want to just upgrade from flip-flops to regular shoes on an elegant night now these are just a handful of tips for dining room and if you want to have more tips like that you can watch this video here where I go a lot more of them or you can watch this video to know how to avoid the top mistakes that people make in the dining room

If you have any special dietary needs, immediately after boarding, go straight to the main dining room. If you have traditional seating or a standing reservation with the My Time dining, you can talk to the maitre d' in advance and let them know exactly what you need. Everything from vegan to gluten-free to halal to allergies; our experience is that Royal Caribbean has bent over backwards to assist us and the people we travel with, but they're not psychic and it is incumbent upon you to communicate what your needs are. If you require some kind of accommodation, let them know in advance, even more than calling or emailing. Usually on the first night, they will send out a chef to talk directly to you to see what alternatives they can bring each night.
As a matter of courtesy, if you know you are not going to be at dinner one night due to a late excursion or going to a specialty restaurant, tell your waiter the night before so they know they can use your table for My Time dining.
Do you have any other tips to share to maximize the main dining room experience on Royal Caribbean cruises?
Having a wife and a kid who don't eat lobster means I can have up to three tails for free if I want.
Everyone I know who has brought a wine to dinner said they charge a fee
We had My Time, but usually reserved a table. We were usually seated for dinner at the same table with the same wait staff no matter what time we said we'd be there. For lunch, we usually got different tables and staff, but mostly a table for two with no wait. For breakfast, we could be seated quickly at a shared table or wait for a table for two.
Hi Kat where did this whole thing with sitting along total strangers ever begin because on land people would find that beyond creepy can you imagine you wanting a romantic dinner with your significant other at a nice Italian restaurant then hostess brings you to a random table with others this couple would probably be running out of the restaurant or introduce the hostess to their Karen attitude
Thank you for this video. I've never sailed on RC, but now I know what to do for dinner.
This is a good video for first-timers.
My wife and I love the dining room, but we do enjoy the Windjammer and of course a quick slice of pizza at Sorrento’s. We do love to dress up on formal night. Chops grill is still my favorite. But we also haven’t eaten at Coastal Kitchen, Izumi, or Giovanni’s. Looking forward to Adventure of the Seas this year.
How do you reserve the dinning option when doing My Time Dining. Is this done once on the ship or is this something you can do on the app before your sailing? 🙂
I was wondering where you make the reservations for your time dining? Is it available on the app? Thank you for all your helpful tips.
I know you said that if we have my time dining and have the same time every night, we should get the same table. What if some nights you eat at 7 and 7:15? Would we still possibly have the same table?
Nice video, Kat! Just subscribed 🙂 I'm taking my first Royal Caribbean cruise this summer – a 7-day Greek Isles (roundtrip Rome) on Odyssey of the Seas in June. Good tips to know ahead of time!
Hi Kat. Thank you for your videos. They are very informative! We are cruising on Oasis for the first time. About my time dining, is it possible that if you selected my time dining that the option to make a reservation is not available when it opens in the app? In other words, are reservations in my time dining on a first come first serve basis?
We love the main dinning and the attention we get! Thanks for this video
FUN FACT: if–and when done ahead of time–you try, you can fully custom your dining experience altogether: Recently celebrated an anniversary and to make it “extra special” I asked for special meals to be served each time we were in the MDR; a special note was on our SeaPass and our meals were made.
Hi Kat! I was wondering if I have a set time already booked for my family and I for 5pm at the main dining room to eat, is it possible to not eat there every night if I want to eat elsewhere?
Hi Kat, I will be on Symphony this year, however when I try to reserve my dining time on the MDR, they ask me for my credit card to be able to reserve, eventhough it says $0. Should I still reserve those times or will I be charged any fees? Thanks in advance.
Hey, we are going om a 6 night trip on allure of the seas. Should we choose tradition dining with fixed time every night at 8, if we know that 2 or 3 nights we maybe won’t eat at the main dining and Instead eat at the buffet or another option. Or should we reserve for each day when we get on the ship. We would like to be sure to be able to get a table some of the days and not end up eating at the buffet every day because it’s sold out
Does Royal Caribbean still do lobster night?
How do I find out which night has lobster night?
Does Royal Caribbean have Caesar Salad and steak on their menu every night? Asking for Serenade of the seas.
❤❤🙏
thank you so much for this information. this is my first time cruising with them. so to understand, when we purchased our tickets and said we wanted early dinning, we still need to do reservation for the dinning? and that comes out a month before our cruise starts?
I love your accent
So helpful! First time cruiser here and this helps!
Hi Kat, I started a vlog last year. Having problems with thumbnails and editing. What sites/apps do u use or u recommend?
Me and my wife will be going on our 2nd cruise ever, 1st one was last May on allure of the seas, this one will be wonder of the seas on May 18th- 25th to the western Caribbean for our 25th wedding anniversary and we're so excited to go. Our 1st cruise last year was with our 2 adult kids and their spouses but its just us this time😊. Great video on the dining options as cruising is new to us.
If you're still hungry … can u go to the Windjammer??
This was so helpful. Thank you very much!
What about lunch in the MDR? Do you have to make reservations? Or can you just easily just walk in ?
We go in Aug and our seating is already fixed for 5 pm. That feels so early! We wamted 6 or 630 but our TA said nothing available. I feel like we will be rushed to get ready for dinner and have to cut swim time short.
I didn’t know about the full menu being available on the app. Maybe it wasn’t on my cruise. Explorer of the seas. Every night was a surprise for us. I’ll need to check that out next time.
Great tip on reviewing the main dining room menus early. Had no idea it was available a month out. Help decision making for choice of specialty dining nights.
Too FAST! Slow down please info is great but toooo fast,😢
Your videos are so good and informative.
I like to skip the windjammer and go to breakfast in the Main Dining Room – not so hectic and it is a plus to order and be served.
Also, lunch is nice also in MDR. ( I think that is only on sea days.)
We try and do a couple of each during the cruise.
Hi, thanks for this video. It is my first time doing a cruise for liberty of the seas. For the my time dining we booked our times but they only different times each night. When you reserve the my time dining do we need to wait in line or will we be seated right away? Also how do you do the fixed time?
