My Biggest Challenge Yet. And You Won’t Believe How Close It Gets…Scotland to Switzerland By Train

hi folks how’s it going today could be one of my craziest videos yet I was scrolling through YouTube comments the other day and I saw a suggestion from the one and only non-stop Euro trip and that’s why I’m standing right here right now the challenge is to get from montro in Scotland to montro in Switzerland but of course as a catch I am only allowed to use trains and I’m going to try and do it within 24 hours so less talking more moving let’s get this crazy adventure started that’s not my train with the way no that’s going the wrong way but it’s always nice to film an [Music] HST so there we go I’ve set my timer to 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds and if everything goes to plan it should be absolutely fine we should just about make it but it’s nice to add a we bit of Jeopardy to the video isn’t it that’s my jacket on already the weather certainly changes fast in these parts it felt like summer 5 minutes ago and now we’re definitely back in winter here we go folks the adventure begins oh it better start the timer eh we are now at [Music] monos hello and welcome on board this Luma to London Kings Cross I it’s quite funny this first train that I’m on would actually take me all the way to London which predictably is somewhere I need to get to this evening but because of the prices of the tickets especially last minute I’m going to have to change in Edinburgh and then go on to a lumo train for the trip to London the next station will be dum D CCTV is in operation on this service for your Safety and [Music] Security the c bar which is located in G for in the middle of the standard class fores here we offer a range of H C food drinks snacks and alcoholic a we are nowain [Music] and so welcome to Edinburgh we have now got two 2 and 1 half hours to wait from my next train to London but the clock does not stop no it just keeps ticking but to be honest with you I’m in no hurry to get to London in this evening and you’ll soon find out [Music] [Music] why all right almost time now for the next leg of the journey which will be 5 hours down to London with lumo now lumo trains are fairly basic and quick there’s not going to be much to see out the window so this could be quite a short part of the video I’ll see you on board it’ll be interesting to see what this train’s like because I think lumo’s a budget service so does that mean that it’s going to be really busy I hope not cuz I’d like to try and get some sleep on board because I’ve got no hotel booked in London tonight looks okay doesn’t it [Music] I have found my assigned seat but it’s at a table of four and there’s other people sitting there so it’s not ideal but this train does seem to be fairly quiet tonight with loads of seats available so I think I’ll sit at one of the airline style seats and try and get some rest good evening and very warm welcome to each and every one of you on board this service is our pleasure to be on board ambassadors upside our cust drive today [Music] before leaving the TRU welcome to London Kings Cross it’s 1:00 a.m. and knowah didn’t sleep well there’s good news and there’s bad news folks the good news is I don’t have far to walk from an next train because I’ve just arrived at King’s cross and my next train leaves from St panas which is just across the road the bad news is it doesn’t leave for another 5 hours and I don’t really want to stray too far from this area in the middle of the night I think I might just try and find a cafe 24-hour McDonald’s something like that there’s surely something around here St panker station is just here in front of me and it does still look open and while we might not hang about here for too long we just need to walk in this entrance it must be one of the grandest entrances to a railway station anywhere in the [Music] world now predictable I’ve just been approached and chucked out the guy said the station is closed and it won’t open again till 5:00 a.m. so we’ll be back here in about 4 hours time to check in for our Train to Paris London’s a funny old place there’s just so many people wandering about in the middle of the night and you can always tell the ones that are going to approach you and try and pretend to be your best friend you just need to get into the Habit very quickly of blanking them and moving straight on so King’s cross is closed the older building of St pankas is closed but there is a newer part of St panas over here a big glass building that I’ve never seen before but let’s go and give that a try so that’s the more traditional brick building to my left and then this new glass building to my right and there does appear to be quite a few people mulling about here so we might be in luck but there’s so many security guards so I’m not even going to try to film inside it’s actually quite funny there’s so many many dodgy people in that station but it’s also quite comforting that there’s plenty police officers as well but I think I’m going to head over to McDonald’s just now get something to eat you know just to kill some time no I’m afraid the 24-hour McDonald’s is takeaway only and let’s be honest I was going in there for a seat and to kill some time rather than for the food so the search continues am I missing something here this can’t be the price of train tickets Sheffield standard anytime return $243 quid 235 to Derby 219 to Nottingham that’s crazy it’s just after 4:00 in the morning now and things are kind of starting to come alive a bit more they’ve opened up this other area within St panr station under the Magnificent roof it’s absolutely enormous but that’s been a long 3-hour wait in London this morning but it’s good to get a seat now be able to use the toilet that’s a relief and in about half an hour we should be able to check in for the Train to Paris but the clock is still ticking and we’ve got 11 hours and 20 minutes to complete this [Music] challenge well there’s one of the beautiful Eurostar trains but I’m not sure what the seating area is for very cool though [Music] well that’s me through security in a Flash I tell you what airports could learn a thing or two from Eurostar there’s so many people here this morning but we got through checkin security and both passport checks within about 5 minutes incredible [Music] and breakfast is a we porridge with a pot of honey £430 that’s not too bad is it let have a look at this lovely do you know what I think we might get breakfast on the train but I just couldn’t resist some porridge it’s been a long night you know 3601 service to Paris is now ready for boarding platform number n there we go bang on time 20 minutes before departure they announce the platform and we off to Platform 9 so I’m in Carriage 8 this morning seat 47 that’s three we’ve got a way to go yet good morning morning number [Music] 847 good morning and welcome on board this your RAR to Paris please label your large items of luggage and them in the r and fr of the [Music] coach [Music] [Music] Al thank [Music] [Music] you so welcome to Paris folks in the Magnificent gardu Nord station where I’m starting to feel a wee bit tired now that Journey was lovely the seat was comfy but it was also extremely busy and I was in an aisle seat wasn’t I so I could barely film anything at all and as nice as this station is it’s not where I need to be my next train departs from G Leon and that’s about an hour’s walk from here now I’m sure I could get a Metro or something but let’s stretch the legs I need some exercise and it’ll keep me awake Paris is just one of these cities if you were just dropped here without being told where you were you would just know you were in Paris wouldn’t you and it’s so nice to get a we walk here because I’ve not been here for years but how I’m feeling just now it’s just a be bit too busy for [Music] me you know when you’re tired and everything just sounds so noisy everything’s just so Amplified in my head at the [Music] moment oh and I haven’t checked the watch for a while we have got 6 hours and 20 minutes to complete this challenge we’re almost there and the sun’s come out for us how nice is that I’m not going to lie I got a bit Carried Away by the scenery there and I’m cutting things a bit tight for this train now we are going to make it but I like to have more time than this normally wow that station is absolutely stunning in fact the whole area around here is just unbelievable it’s just unfortunate I’ve got absolutely no time to get food now I just hope there’s something on the the train to custom off tax driver will not the St oh it’s another busy one I think I was just being dramatic again I had [Music] time this will be my train here and thankfully I’m going right to the end of the line so even if I fall asleep I’ll be okay [Music] mer folks I’m so excited I’m going to be going in a double deer at last up be the very first time let’s just hope we’re upstairs eh so here we are Carriage 18 seat 76 yes we’re upstairs wow I tell you what though it’s another busy train good morning ladies and gentlemen welcome on board this tgv Lia 2 [Music] LAN [Music] [Music] for [Music] spe this [Music] [Music] F my allocated seat on this train is at a table with three other people and after a couple hours it was just getting a bit tight and a bit sore in the knees so I’m back down here downstairs where I’ve got access to windows at either side you’ll always find me in the vest [Music] bu [Music] [Music] 1 hour 49 minutes left to complete this challenge folks are we going to make it train is about to leave please M the [Music] doors [Music] ladies and gentlemen for is 10 minutes late for collection in come back to you later thank you for understanding you may have heard there that we’re running about 10 minutes late at the moment what’s that a training Switzer when 10 minutes late it’ll be in the news but don’t worry because I’ve built small delays into the schedule so we should still get to montro within 24 hours in fact we’ve got an hour and 13 minutes left to get [Music] there1 [Music] [Music] so welcome to loan folks we’ve now got all of 42 minutes to find a train to montro and get to Mont can we do this I’ve got no idea where we’re going but here’s one of those fancy European Tim taes um cam cam cam it looks like the next train that will take us to montro is 1611 the re33 and that goes from Platform One Platform One this way [Music] it was platform one wasn’t it I hope I read it right I’m starting to doubt myself I tell you what though I really need Swiss trains to live up to their reputation right now because this is going to be tight [Music] Fu it’s on time and we’ve made it you know what I think I’ll just stand I don’t care about a seat it’s only about 20 minutes and the important thing is we are on this train come on come on come [Music] on [Music] T show [Music] [Applause] [Music] for stop the [Music] clock yes I can’t believe how close that was so non-stop Euro trip sent me this Challenge and mate I think you’ve brought me to possibly the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen in my life thank you and I added the challenge of trying to do it in 24 hours and we have literally done it in 23 hours and 59 minutes it could not have been any closer this point I don’t know we’ve not even seen the Lakeside yet in the prominade but I think it’s going to be pretty special and of course I’m not going to leave here without giving you a good look around and we’ll do that tomorrow and then it’s back to montro on Thursday but we’ll be flying back I can’t even do an outro I’m too tired I’ve been up for about 30 OD hours now I just want to go and get a shower and go to bed and that’s the biggest celebration I can do tonight thanks for watching folks see you later [Music] [Music] bye-bye [Music]

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up (in which case, likely to be Tuesday at 5pm)
WHY IS THERE A DELAY BETWEEN TRIP AND VIDEO APPEARING?
This is both my business model and a result of doing everything myself. Editing takes time and I also like to schedule videos a bit in advance in case of any problems/illness/cancellations etc. Keeping my uploads appearing every Saturday is important to me, so I don’t want anything to get in the way of it. Also, I occasionally need some time off to recover from trips! But more than anything else, it’s about budgets. I generally need to film a number of videos on each trip to break even. And each one of these take a while to fall into place on a Saturday morning.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc. I also have a DJI Pocket 3 (bigger sensor) for nighttime, although I’m still getting to grips with it.
WHY DON’T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I’m afraid – time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman. Also my weekly upload schedule means I need to keep on the move.
WHERE’S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature whenever possible, but she has her own life and a proper job so it can take a while for our schedules to match up. Trust me though, I prefer it when She is there too!
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I’ve only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.

It’s my income, I can’t do this for free. Notice I don’t have mid-roll ads though!
