Best Things To Do in Vienna Austria 2025 4K

What’s going on everybody? This is Island Hopper
TV and today we’re going to show you the best things to do in Vienna, Austria. Considered the
most livable city in the world 10 years in a row now, this is really an amazing city. Stick
around until the end because I’m going to give you some Vienna travel tips that are going
to be very useful for those of you who will be arriving for your very first time. Located
here in central Europe, let’s begin. First up, the Belvedere Palace. Now, there are several
palaces in Vienna. Inside the palace, they have the best showcase of Austrian art in the
entire country. They’ve also got beautiful gardens outside. As you know, Austria has a very rich
history with the Austria-Hungarian Empire as well as the Ottomans being here. And Belvedere really
had many nobility living here. It’s close to the city center, so this one’s an easy palace to get
to if you’re staying inside of Vienna. If you really wanted to see Belvedere, you should get the
paid tour. I personally recommend coming here in the evening time around sunset. Now we’ll go check
out another palace. This one here is called the Shonnbrunn Palace. This one’s actually considered
the most famous in Vienna. Originally built as a hunting lodge in the 17th century, it became the
main summer residence for the Haspber rulers. The palace has 1,441 rooms decorated in the Rooko
style. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you want to go inside, you will need a ticket.
You can do a palace tour. You can check out the gardens. They also have a maze and much more. Now,
we’re headed to the Prader Amusement Park. This here park is 250 years old and they are building
a brand new Prater Museum here. They have a giant ferris wheel and countless other experiences
that you can have here. It actually opened to the public by Emperor Joseph II in 1766. This is one
of the oldest theme parks in the world. Entrance into the park is actually free. You just pay per
ride. Like classic bumper cars. They have haunted houses, some modern roller coasters, high-speed
thrill rides. Then they have madame tussauds of Vienna located inside the park. Now here we are at the
Hofburg Palace. This is one of Vienna’s most impressive historical sites. It was the imperial
winter residence of the Hapsburg dynasty for over 600 years. It’s got a Gothic Renaissance type
barricet style. They have imperial apartments, the [ __ ] Museum. So, this is really a cool
palace to check out. A bit different than what you saw with Belvedere or Shonnbrun And in case you
don’t know who the Habsburg dynasty is, they were one of the most powerful and influential royal
families in European history. They originated in Switzerland in the 11th century and then they
kind of migrated towards the area around Austria, Hungary, and even up towards Netherlands.
Now, let’s talk about local food. So, by this time you’re probably hungry. Wiener
schnitzel is very famous here. It’s like a ve that’s breaded. They also do a chicken breaded
wiener schnitzel. And then you have Vienna sausage. You guys have probably tried this wherever you’re
coming from. This hot dog would be called like a Frankfurter worst. Hot dogs and sausages are
very famous in this part of central Europe all the way up towards Germany and Prague. You also
have apple strudel, which is like a dessert or a pastry. You could almost call it an apple pie, but
it’s a bit different than what you may be used to in the US. Dessert and pastry is very famous. And
another one is going to be a chocolate cake with a layer of apricot jam and then chocolate icing.
This is really famous here in the area around Central Europe. So, do make sure you bring your
sweet tooth when you’re visiting Austria. And then they’ve got some other hearty meals that include
meat and potatoes, your classic European dish. I know for me when I first arrived in Vienna, my
grandfather was texting me saying, “Oh, you’ve got to try Weiner schnitzel.” And they also have a lot of
different international cuisine as well. So don’t worry too much about food selection in Vienna.
Now, here we are at Stephansplatz, which is the St. Stephens Square area. It’s like a prominade,
kind of like an arcade, I guess you could say, but it’s really an outdoor walking area. It gets
very crowded in the evening time. This is kind of where I found the most nightlife atmosphere. Lots
of restaurants and people just hanging out around St. Stephen’s Cathedral. For me, this feels like
the central area of Vienna. Although, you could call several areas around Vienna the central area.
I just felt like this is the heart and soul of the city itself. So, if you can get a hotel around
here, you’re going to be right next to it all within walking distance. If you’re not staying
here, you can easily arrive at the Yubon station, which is one of the busiest stations and junctions
in the entire city. And then right next to it is going to be the St. Stephen’s Cathedral, which is
actually one of the largest cathedrals in terms of height in the entire world. So that’s quite the
amazing site. It’s it is a Roman-esque and Gothic cathedral. The construction began in 1339 and it
stands on the ruins of two earlier churches. By the way, if you guys are considering visiting
Europe, you can easily do Vienna and several other cities which we’ll talk about later, but
I highly recommend you watch our other videos such as Budapest as well as Prague. I’ll put
the links down below in the comments and the description. Also, if you’re new to Island Hopper
TV, you can subscribe and keep up with us as we continue to show you around the top destinations
in the world. So, thank you to all our subscribers and people who like the video. Now, back to
the city. As you can see, St. Stephens area, very famous part of Vienna. Another thing you can
do while here is ride a horse and carriage. That’s a nice way to see the city, especially if you’re
a couple. It’s kind of romantic riding around on one of these horsedrawn carriages. My first time I
ever arrived in Vienna was on a train from Prague in the evening time. And right when I was around
Stevens, I remember seeing just so many of these horse and carriages. And you can get a short tour
around the old town for €60 for a 20-minute ride. If you wanted to go around the old town for a bit
longer, maybe 40 minutes, that’ll cost you around €105. Out near the Schonbrunn Palace, they have
the Schonbrunn Zoo, and that’s on 17 hecta acres. It was developed in 1752. It is one of the oldest
zoos in the world. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site as well, and lots of people come here.
Around 2 million visitors per year. This is one of the best zoos in the world, actually. And the
ticket price is about €27 per person. Now, we’re at Maria Teresa Quarter, and this is actually an
area where they have plenty of different museums for you to explore. It’s like a museum knowledge
and history area. Maria Teresa being one of the former Hapsburgs. And one of the famous museums
here is an art museum known as Kunsthistorisches, which is very difficult for me to pronounce, so I
apologize in advance, but it basically translates to the art history museum. They have many famous
paintings here. And one thing you should really know about Vienna, it is very famous for its
history, including composers that come from here as well as artists, but some composers are
like Wolfgang Mozart. You also have Beethoven. You have Johan Strauss, Schubert. Across from the
Art History Museum is the Natural History Museum. And the ticket for there is €18 if you wanted to
visit the art museum, which is also €158. Vienna does offer the Vienna Pass, which also includes
other museums and attractions and palaces, including the Albertina. You may want to look
that up before you get here. Just go online and type in Vienna Pass. It lasts about 3 days and
costs around €150. Another museum that you might find interesting is the Medical History Museum,
especially if you’re a doctor or nurse. Also, one of the best ways to get around Vienna is on
the Vienna subway. Uh definitely try to get one of those passes to get around. A Vienna subway
pass is around €17 for about a week. You could probably start with a single rider ticket and see
if you like it. And if you do find it efficient, then just get the pass and save money for the
whole time you’re here. Another thing is the central station. This is a great way to get out of
Vienna going in directions like Prague or Budapest or maybe even towards Salzburg into Switzerland.
I’ve done all of those from the central station here. It’s very modern, but it does get very
crowded. Try and book the tickets online because the lines are crazy. This here is the Vienna State
Opera House. This is one of the most famous opera houses in the world, obviously, because of people
who come from here like Mozart and Beethoven. It’s very famous and you should be able to get a ticket
to go to one of the opera house shows for around €20. This is definitely a cultural experience
that you probably want to have here in Vienna just because of its significance with music.
Now, let’s talk about getting around on a bike. So most of the cities in Europe are bike friendly,
but Vienna is extra bike friendly. This is one of the reasons why Vienna ranks so high. This is
something I actually recommend for people who plan to get around on foot instead do the bike.
Get the app when mobile rad or next bike. Uh and the first hour can be free if you get the app and
you sign up. They give some additional bonuses. They do have a hop- on hop off bus. I took the hop
on hop off bus to the Schoenbrunn Palace and some of the other stations. I found it to be convenient
for that. Hop on hop off doesn’t have the best reputation right now, but I still recommend
it here taking the big bus. Actually, a nice place to walk around or ride a bike is the Danube
Canal. It does have a bit of graffiti down here, so that can be a bit of an eyesore. Maybe some
people consider it art, but the Danube Canal also has some restaurants and a little bit of a kind
of hipster vibe, I guess you could say. And when I came to Vienna, I just walked around here and
checked it out around late afternoon. As you can see, people were biking, jogging, exercising. But
that graffiti, I don’t know. I’m not a big fan of graffiti. But, uh, like I said, some people think
it’s cool. But the Danube Canal, just so you know, it’s connected to the Danube River. The Danube
River is a big river that connects Budapest, Vienna, and several other big cities including
Bratislava and Slovakia. So, this river is a major waterway back in the day. This is how people used
to get around in Europe. Before the car or before the airplane, the train in the 1800s, for example,
these were the original superhighways. You would take boats up and down these riverways all around.
For many, many centuries, this was the case. So, the Danube River connecting so many big cities
in Europe. This is one of Europe’s biggest rivers or waterways. The only other ones that are famous
are the Volga as well as the Rhine in Germany. So, you can see very important. But look at how active
the people are here, right? You have people doing martial arts, jogging, riding bikes. That’s one
of the reasons why Vienna is so livable. Active lifestyle is just so important in this day and
age. Now we have the Danube River. If we zoom out, you can see the Danube Tower in the distance. You
can see like the towers, also more of a financial area outside of the old town. You’ve also got
some fairies or river cruisers that’ll take you around on cruises down the Danube to Bratislava or
Budapest. Then there’s a castle on the outskirts of town called Berg Kreuzenstein. Very nice. Look
how beautiful it is surrounded by a forest. Now, just some quick facts about visiting Vienna. The
currency here is the euro and that is widely used across Europe, including here in Vienna. It is
part of the Shenhen visa, so you can easily go to places like Hungary or Slovakia or Czech
Republic or anywhere in Europe without having to process immigration to get here. I arrived on
trains every time I’ve come here. First time I arrived from Prague. I also departed here going
towards the west through Salzburg and then into Switzerland one time and then the other time I
was here I arrived coming in from Bratislava and then I departed heading towards Budapest. So
lots of options from Vienna. I would say it’s one city along many different uh locations here in
central Europe that you can visit on a Euro trip. 24 to 48 hours was good enough for my first time,
but you may want to stay for 72 hours and take advantage of the city pass while you’re here.
Vienna is a city known for its imperial past. So take that into consideration when here
because of the Hapsburg Empire, very very famous empire in Europe. Now it’s also known
as the city of music because of the composers that we talked about. Coffee culture is a very
serious business here. People work and drink coffee a lot. They also indulge in dessert like we
talked about. Definitely getting around on foot, bike, or public transport. Very famous. They
also have a street car like a tram. Prices and tipping. Vienna isn’t very cheap. Uh expect
Western Europe prices, so it’s going to be quite expensive. Tipping is common, about 5 to 10% in
restaurants. Just take that into consideration. Some people also tip in cafes and taxis. And then
there’s lots of green space around here, parks, very relaxing. Take advantage of all that. And
then as far as the language goes, it is German, Austrian German dialect, actually. Now, as far
as weather goes, it’s warm and pleasant in the summer. Can even be a bit too hot in my opinion.
I’ve experienced quite a bit of heat in Austria. But the winters do get cold and snowy. It’s a bit
magical really, especially around the Alps. Uh, it has that kind of vibe here. I hope you
enjoy your visit to Vienna, Austria. And you can actually watch our next video from

    1. Hey first ten seconds – most of the footage is Schonbrunn not Belvedere. Schonbrunn is bright yellow and big, Belvedere is smaller and white. Traveling to a big city in Europe is confusing enough, let’s get it right.
