Travelling from the UK to France in Our Motorhome | South of France Adventures PT3

come to a random village in France and stumbled across loads of people dancing to sort of pop music. Welcome back to part three of our motor home adventure. So far, we’ve stayed at Port Silence car park, a peaceful camping car park in Mariner L, and the wooden hideway of Champ de la Chappelle. Now, we’re heading further south to a charming village site called Camping Leon Don. Stick around to see what we get up to. And don’t miss the surprise campsite at the end. 10 minutes out the campsite. Quick caraf stop. Caraf are like a Tesco supermarket. Traveling with little ones means constant stops for milk and snacks. Carapform must love us. Luckily, their car parks are usually motor home friendly. We’re heading further south on the motorway to our next campsite, just 2 minutes off the main route. Perfect for a short stop on our journey. I booked it on pitchup.com for €60, which is three nights, so around £17 a night. Includes a pool, bar, restaurant, and our pitch should have electric, too. Let’s see if it’s good value. Let me know in the comments what you think. Right, we’re at the campsite. We’re going to go check in now. I’m here, but I don’t know how to find the one. I went the wrong way. Walked I drove straight past reception like a donkey. I was meant to park here. There’s a big sign that says reception just there. And here it is. Yeah, I obviously didn’t spot that reception open till 4:00. Uh it’s obviously closed. They they sort of open and close two times a day. So, uh it’s nearly 3:00 here. So I’ve got an hour just to kill. So we’ll go back the motor home back up there in the service bay then just go for explore. This young lady had just cottoned on and said come in good reception before. Arriving at the campsite was a bit of a challenge. The entrance was a tight squeeze thanks to the angle we came in at. The lady who let us in didn’t speak word of English but with some hand signals and smiles we got sorted. Note to self in France shops, campsites and most places seem to shut for a long lunch. So, I really should have timed this better. Anyway, we were told to pitch up anywhere. So, we’re on the lookout for an easy access spot with space for the kids to play. And this one looks okay. Friend needs to come up. We can do that, can’t we? Can we do that? We’re on our pitch. We got to pick any pitch. Uh, and then we got to go back to reception at 4:00. A young lady let us in. I’m not sure if she runs the place, but she spoke French. I spoke English and I tried to speak French and understood, which was a relief. It’s really quiet, which is nice. There’s shops nearby. We obviously just heard the church bells. Not obviously, but we did. Um, so yeah, I’ll show you what’s what. Down this side in the corner. We thought we’d accidentally picked a a picture without power, but you got power there. There’s about four things there. It’s probably cuz our van’s jacked up at the front at the rear cuz of air suspension that these look level. Uh, I don’t know where water is yet. And then we’ve chose this one. A few of them had a couple of trees which would have had to get past. But as you come in as well, there’s a typical motor home service point that you pull into. As you probably saw from that earlier video, we’re going to get the awning out just to give us a bit of shade. We’ve already had a visitor. Give her a cuddle. Yeah. Who’s this then? Who is What noise it make? Elijah Gagaoodle. That’s well done. It’s all set up. I’m sweating. And I’ve also got man boob sweat, boob sweat. It’s a new experience for me. We’re going to go explore and see what we can find. All we can hear is the birds and boys. Perfect. The awning is out and now it’s time to hunt for that precious liquid water. I’ve discovered water. They’ve got chalets and and little teepee sort of tents here. And then some like this. Look at this. You kind of I don’t know what it is really. It looks like a fun house for kids, but actually you can stay here. Fun house for adults. Fast moving water down there. We head off for a quick wander to get our bearings and stumble across the outdoor pool. A bull’s pitch, sports courts, and randomly a goat chilling in what looks like an old crazy golf area. The boys love meeting him though. Definitely not what we expected to find. Time to try the pool out. Frustratingly, the splash pole’s not open. Oh, is it Li? Is it cold? We got the whole pool to ourself. I have to have my hat on because I can’t see. The sun’s right up there. The pool is actually really cold, but once you’re in it, it’s absolutely glorious. So, uh, well worth jumping in. I think it’s long long needed. It’s about 32° here today and the sun is shining. There’s not a cloud in the sky. So, yeah, pool time’s needed. is we’re going to have a little trek into the village after we’ve um finished here and then we’re going to work out if we’re going to stay till Sunday cuz France doesn’t really start until mid July, August of time, August time. So, um a lot of stuff’s closed which is a shame really. So, uh it did say that on pitchup to be fair, but um you’d like to think that people would be in the country right now cuz it’s absolutely glorious. So, uh, yeah. So, we’re we’re deciding if we’re going to leave maybe tomorrow night, head down, um, so we’re on the south coast because I know that where we’re heading to will have entertainment and we might be able to extend our stay there for, you know, maybe just nearly two weeks, which will be awesome. So, yeah. So, uh, watch this space. You want to get it? So, we’re off to the village. you can get over by a little bridge. So, that’s where we’re heading over now. See what the village has to hold for us. We’ve just had a swim and the boys are knackered cuz the swimming pool was really, really cold, but we got in eventually and had lots of fun. So, we’re going to head in, hopefully get some food, and see what the village is like. Oh, this is pretty. Oh, it’s a wobbly bridge. Wibbling and wobbling. It’s been 32° today. It’s been really hot and it’s supposed to get hotter and hotter obviously as we head further south, but in this in the middle it’s going to be like 35 to 37°. So, we’ll get a climatized. Oh, there’s a lift. Hold on. How cool is this? There’s a lift to get you down so you don’t have to go down the steps. The French have just got it right, haven’t they? Yeah. I’ll go down the steps. I’ll see you down there. What? Ding-dongs. The French are well equipped for disabled and push chairs. We need to catch up. Oh, how he’s going to get through there, though. Not sure how you’re going to get through this bit though. I was saying well equipped. We actually just had to lift them over that barrier because there’s that at the end which doesn’t move or anything. So Whoops. But we did it. Just lifted the buggy. Good job. I’ve got a strong husband. After our slightly celtic battle with the elevator, we walk through a lovely little children’s play park that runs alongside the river and then into the village center. It’s very peaceful and full of charm here. The village is called Lem Deson and it’s definitely a hidden gem. I love these old French buildings with the old shutters. They look beautiful. It’s what you expect in a French film. In the center stands the Agles centuradard, a protected 11th century Romanesque church built by the Clooney monks in 1078 with later alterations in the 17th and 18th centuries. A real piece of medieval France. And right across the square is the 1835 timber roof market hall. A listed 19th century gem that once buzzed with traders. Lovely to see it still standing. So, we come out for a little explore and we found uh we need to get to a shop and I saw on the map which is why I booked this campsite you could walk into town. They got a Beville store. Just a little shop. They’re lovely and friendly here. Come to greet us. Quite a lot going on in this little place. Some old signage as well. Wow. Look at this. Inside this looks like an old market square or market hall. You got a bakery, petisserie, pizza. uh restaurant, lots of places. Looks like they’re closed. This sign looks like it’s really old. That and then uh butchers, shakuteri, and there’s some more places up there which we’re not going to venture cuz we’re going to get back and get some food in us. [Music] Say, “Hi, bunnies.” Hi, bunnies. They’re tiny ones, too. Watch your little fingers get nibbled. They got a really cool house, aren’t they? Honey. Honey. Honey. Oh, that one tries desperately, but never gets to it. It’s the evening and the heat seized off. Perfect time to let the boys run wild in the park before bed. I can do it. And we’re back and we’re greeted by our chickeny friends that now reside with us. We’re hot. We’re sweaty. And the meanings are on. Got to be done. [Music] Catch you in the morning, guys. Night night. It’s Friday. The sun is shining. We are going to do some washing. So, we’re going to use the facilities on site. Uh we are going to go to the shop and buy some stuff to feed the bunny rabbits. So, some carrots and lettuce. Uh we’re going to go to the park onsite and offsite. And uh we’re going to do a van tour for you guys later. I’m just waiting for some feedback on a poll to find out exactly what you want to see. So, uh, stay tuned. Haven’t seen Becky’s van tour yet? Go check it out in our videos. French sausages. Is it a thumbs up or a thumbs down? I’m a thumbs down. It will do, but it doesn’t beat the uh the British sausage system. Sorry. Unless I’m looking in the wrong place. I do like the smoked sausage they do here. So, redeem yourself. Site tour. Here’s the eco-friendly recycling and compost area. Love how this place cares for the planet. This campsite has accessible pictures, too. Wide, level, and close to facilities. Nice work, campsite. Here’s the main shower and toilet block. Clean, modern, and easy to access. This is the Elsen Point, though honestly, I have no idea how you meant to use it. Toilets, clean and simple. Another fresh water point, always handy. Baby change room, sadly locked this time. Outdoor pot wash. Covered clean and perfect for scrubbing those camp cooking pans. Signpost spotted. Satnab not required. A site map. Your guide to all the fun facilities. And yes, the goat. Becky’s on laundry duty. Washing machines and dryers here made life on the road much easier. We just met a wonderful couple from the Netherlands. They actually arrived the same time as us yesterday and their what was their motor home called? Mounty. Mounty. Uh they uh it’s from 1987. It’s got a Fiat Ducato engine. It’s old school, but they love it. And they uh they’ve actually got a place in Spain. They’re coming back from there. They got a cave place in Spain. Yeah. Wonderful people. It’s great with this because you can just get to know people. I don’t I think it’s more when you’ve got kids actually. People tend to come and talk to you more, but it’s amazing what you find out from people and and and the stories. So, uh yeah, it’s wonderful wonderful thing having them at home. So, you get to meet some wonderful people. So, if you’re watching this, nice to meet you guys and hopefully we’ll catch you in Spain. See you guys. See you. Nice to see you. What’s mommy doing? Mommy being silly. Let’s go. You got bum burn. So, we’re heading to the village next to the uh the campsite because at 8:00 they’ve got a live band playing in the old market square, like old market building, you’ll see. So, let’s head there and have a look. So, you can hear the uh you can hear the uh band in the background already. The party’s sort of loosely already begun. On a separate note, there’s actually a building behind this. There’s the windows. There’s the door. There’s another door there. It’s sort of lost like the secret garden. There’s some big old gates here, too. That’s the 8:00 bell. It’s party central. Some clothes for Becky. We we actually don’t know what to expect because the person who told us about this was uh a British couple that are working the way back from Spain. So, they may have got it wrong, but we’ll soon find out. It looks like there’s a I don’t know. Looks like a Oh, yeah. It’s a some speakers. Look like a DJ DJ middle of France. There’s lots of kids here. So, we really don’t know what to expect. [Music] someone speaking about something. If you know French, you can translate for me. So, it looks like there’s like a kids dance performance beforehand, but uh so I don’t know what to expect this evening. It could uh it’s a bit of a mystery. How cool is this though in the um right in the town village? So really not as much going on. I’ll record a little bit of this so you can see [Music] you dancing. [Music] What do you reckon, Tony? Was that good dancing? Yeah. I want to go dance. You want to go dance yourself? Yeah. Maybe in a bit. Yeah. When they finished. Sound good. High five. Good boy. Right. So, the adults dancing now. So, let’s see. Uh let’s see how they rock it out. They got better dance moves than Beck and I. We got something to learn here. come to a random village in France and stumb across loads of people dancing to a sort of pop music. [Music] So, we’re going to head back uh because the boys are tired and we might have to get an early night for once plus need a drink. So, uh well, thank you France. Anyway, come to a random village in France and this is the sort of stuff you get. There’s been nobody about. No, it seems last two days. Yeah, it was a zombie town. And then this. That’s fun though, isn’t it? They just do things at different times, don’t they? Everyone comes out at night. Seems you don’t see anybody in the day. Yeah. It’s too hot in the day. And they all come out late at night. Even in the pool. The pool filled up. Yeah. Later on today, didn’t it? But that was fun. We were we were made to feel welcome. They was giving they were serving beers at like 1 pound50 a bottle and stuff, but I didn’t I’m not a beer person. Yeah. Gesses me out. So yeah, it was fun. It was really fun. It was lovely to see the enthusiasm and everyone having fun. You wouldn’t think there was that many people in this whole village, to be fair. So yeah, we’re going to head back and then we’re going to actually go to a different campsite tomorrow. We booked this one till Sunday, but it was cheap. I think we only paid 50 quid. for this place for like four nights. So, we’re going to um we’re going to head back and then we’re going to head for I’m going to give a little clue, but we’re going to head for the Milo Vioaduct and we’ve got a campsite booked there that’s a bit of a resort. They’ve got a few sites, so we’ll see if it’s any good. Um yeah, and uh we’ll catch you guys probably in the morning or I might catch you in a bit. Depends what happens when we get back to the motor home. Just in case I forgot, here’s the ball’s pitch. Here’s the like the bar and restaurant, which looks like it’s open now. Actually, I did not realize it was open. The menu of food there. Not that you can read that. There’s a few people eating in the uh the restaurant. It wasn’t open yesterday, I don’t think. Was it? No. There seems to be more people turned up today, but it’s Friday night, so not not not full in any way, shape, or form, but it’s okay. Night night, bunnies. Hope you enjoyed the food we brought you. We got chickens to feed. When we get back, we brought some sweet corn, but the neighbor’s dog scared them off this time. I don’t think they realized there was chickens here cuz she had a proper meltdown. It was quite funny. The temperature right now is absolutely perfect, isn’t it? It is absolutely beautiful. We got the washing done on site. It was five jetons. 5 for a jeton token. So, we’ve got all the washing done. We have got a little washing machine that we can bring in the motor home, but I don’t know why I don’t bother bringing it. Our boot can fit it. Our boot’s huge. Take Let’s take it. Let’s take it. Let’s take it in the one trip that we want to actually use it. You didn’t bring I actually bought it for this sort of trip, but I’m just worried about the weight sometimes. My fault being a dongle walker. Chickens are here. Chickens are here. We got food for you chickens. Come eat it. We got the good stuff. Here you go. Look for you. Don’t give it all. They’ll explode. Oh. Oh, I don’t want to explode. Whispy the chicken whisperer is going in for action. Look. Okay. All right, then. Be gentle. Morning everyone. It’s Saturday. We’re going to head off site today even though we’ve got camping here till tomorrow. We’re going to head to the Milo Vioaduct and we’ve got a campsite booked there with much more for the kids as I think it’s needed. Uh it wasn’t very expensive. I’ll leave the price somewhere. So, uh, we’re going to have breakfast, get washed, go get packed up, and then head about an hour and a half south as we’re 3 hours from, uh, our main destination, which which which is what we’re aiming for. There was people partying hard till about 2:00 a.m. last night, and they don’t seem to be here now. I think it was those guys anyway, but doesn’t matter. We’re on holiday. They were having a good time. I wish I could speak better French to understand what they were talking about at 2:00 a.m. It was very deep and meaningful. So today’s breakfast of choice is scrambly egg with smoked sausage. Nice breakfast. Yeah. What you got? Sausage and scrambly egg. Don’t be afraid of the French babushkas. If you got young kids, they’ll always come say hello. And uh I found that language isn’t an issue. So we’ve just been to see if she’s still here, but I know she’s moved. But there’s a lady, two down, two ladies actually, and the husbands have gone out on their motorcycles, and they’ve just giggled at the kids the whole time. And Elijah’s just gone over. They’ve given him some stuff to feed to the rabbits, which is very kind. And um yeah, just enjoyed squidging Elijah cuz he’s all squidgy. Wherever we go, it’s always the babushkas that speak to us first or try to or try and talk to the boys, which is nice. So, don’t be afraid of the babushkas if you don’t speak French. It’s very hot. We’re now getting ready to leave sight. I’m just going to get the air con running for a sec just so we can uh get cooled down before I take the chalks off. So, uh let’s get to our new site. We’re packed up and rolling out. Come with us as we leave this lovely site and continue our journey south to Milo. Got a little lane to get down this bit. Off to our next adventure. Here we go. Intermar. 15 miles until in Mare, which are the best ones. What song would you write about in March if they if they actually contracted you to write into Mar [Music] you have lots of food and you’re really expensive. Would you have that on? Yeah, that’s true. and you cost us a fortune. Buy the album. We’re heading further south through the mountains. The scenery is absolutely spectacular with some serious ups and downs. Our next stop is the Sandea Resort in Malao, a town rich in history dating back to the Roman times. It’s known for leather production and of course the incredible Malo Vioaduct. While we won’t be driving over it this time, our campsite sits just below it, giving us a front row view. How cool is that? The route’s got a bit squeaky bumish. I had to have a word with the Garmin Cambatav. It sent us over a tiny bridge. But no fear, we made it through the windy country roads and with a sigh of relief and no war wounds, we made it in one piece. So, time to check in at our next stop, Camping Lear Revage. Okay, that was really easy. I tried to speak French, which was good, and she understood. Then I had to revert to English cuz I didn’t understand. But we’re on pitch F3. It’s a short drive. Pool’s open, play area is open, shops open, restaurants are open. So, uh, let’s go get our pitch. Thanks so much for watching part three of our motor home adventure through France.
