Split, Croatia | Top 10 Things To Do In Split 🇭🇷

Split is known for its Roman roots showcasing ancient architecture like the occlesian’s palace. So, if you’re planning to visit Croatia’s second largest city, stay tuned because in today’s video, I’m sharing my top 10 recommendations of things to do to help you plan your trip. For those new to my channel, I’m Kim and I specialize in crafting short travel guides on popular destinations. One of the best ways to explore the Croatian coast is by joining a full-day boat tour. First, there’s the famous Blue Cave, a speedboat trip that takes you to five islands, including Vis Havar, the glowing blue cave itself, and even a Fumamia filming location. Just note that the entrance fee to the Blue Cave isn’t always included, and it ranges from 12 to€24 depending on the season. For something more laid-back, try a Tree Islands tour to the Blue Lagoon. Perfect for swimming and snorkeling, these cruises often include lunch, drinks, and music with extra stops at nearby beaches or islands. Number nine, food tour. Split offers several local food tours, and I joined one that combined a guided walk through the old town with stops at five local spots. most of them familyrun and loved by locals. Our first stop featured Dalmatian procuto, local cheese, olive oil and homemade bread. This was followed by black risoto and pastichada as well as bere a flaky pastry filled with cheese or meat. Finally, we wrapped up the tour with a refreshing gelato. And trust me, you won’t leave hungry. I’ve linked my curated list of experiences below if you’d like to check them out. Number eight, Kirka National Park. From Split, you’ve got two national parks within reach. Kirka, just 1 and 1/2 hours away, and Plevitz Lakes, which is a bit more remote, around 3 and 1/2 hours by bus. If you’re visiting Kirka, you’ll follow a wooden trail passing scenic cascades along the way, all leading to one of the most photogenic spots in Croatia, the park’s most iconic waterfall. When booking, you can choose a tour that includes bonus stops like the medieval town of Troier or a local wine tasting, adding something special to the journey. Number seven, visit a winery. If you’re into wine, Split has two standout experiences I personally tried. The first was a familyowned vineyard passed down for over a,000 years. There you’ll get to walk through the vines and enjoy your first glass while learning about the winery’s history. Afterward, you’ll head into the cellar for two more tastings, then choose your favorite to pair with local cheeses and meats as the registation continues. For something more curated, I visited Jardine just outside Split. This experience blends refined fusion dishes with custom wine pairings crafted by the owner himself. Overall, it’s a slower, more artistic take on Dalmatian flavor, and they also offer cooking classes if you want to dive deeper. Number six, best beaches to visit. Split has a great mix of beaches and the most popular is Bagviche Beach, just minutes from the city center with shallow waters and lively bars. It’s ideal for young travelers or anyone looking for a fun social scene. For something quieter, follow the coastal path from the Marina to Oenna Beach, a rocky dog friendly spot near Margin Hill with plenty of parking and a laid-back vibe. Further west is Kazuni Beach, one of Split’s most iconic seaside spots, where you’ll find a beach club and sunbeds for rent. Typically around €35 a day. A little further down the coast, Benny Beach offers a shaded, familyfriendly atmosphere with pine trees, sunbeds, and a casual local restaurant by the water. All beaches outside Bviche are great for sunset and easily reachable by bus 12 from the city center. Number five, cooking class. One of my favorite experiences was a hands-on cooking class that dives into Mediterranean cuisine. I joined one that started with a walk through the green market to pick up fresh vegetables, followed by a visit to the fish market to choose the catch of the day. Then we made our way to the cooking studio where the real fun began. We kicked things off with an appetizer and a welcome shot of local liquor and got to work. With the help of our chef, we learned how to cook risoto, prepare fresh fish, fry calamari, bake homemade bread, and cook seasonal vegetables properly. We wrapped up the class with a glass of local wine and sat down together to enjoy our creations. A must for travelers who love to cook, eat, and connect. Number four, take a sunset tour. Split is famous for its incredible sunsets, and there are two standout ways to experience them. First, hop on the city sightseeing bus for a scenic ride up to Cliss Fortress. Once you arrive, it’s a short walk to the top where you’ll get amazing views of the city and mountains. If you’d rather be on water, Split offers plenty of sunset cruises. I joined a pirate style ship that sailed past Margin Hill and the beaches with music, drinks, and a golden hourglow. Number three, The Ullesian Palace. With more than 1700 years of history, this UNESCO World Heritage site is now the living heart of Split. Inside the palace walls, you’ll find restaurants, boutique hotels, shops, and museums, all nestled within the original Roman layout. From Paris Square, you can stop by the mainet ticket office and grab a combo ticket, which saves you money and includes access to several key landmarks, including the Cathedral of St. Dominus and its underground crypt, the Temple of Jupiter, the Treasury, and of course, the bell tower. And if you want to dive deeper, the substructure museum beneath the palace offers a fascinating look at Split’s Roman foundations. Number two, the bell tower. Known as one of Split’s most iconic landmarks, the bell tower was originally built to accompany the cathedral and serve as a watchtowwer over the city. To reach the top, you’ll climb around 200 narrow stone and metal steps, but the effort is absolutely worth it. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of Splits red rooftops, the Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding mountains. To avoid the midday heat and the crowds, try visiting early in the morning or just before sunset when the light turns golden and the breeze makes the climb more enjoyable. Number one, visit a local market. Start with the Pazar or green market just east of the Ulesian Palace. You’ll find fresh produce, cured meats, and local olive oil, all sold by friendly vendors. You’ll also find clothing stalls and souvenirs from nearby islands like lavender products and beach essentials such as hats and water shoes. If you’re planning to cook or just want to see what locals are eating, the fish market is just a few minutes away. You’ll find the fresh catch of the day brought in straight from the Adriatic from sardines and seabbass to squid and octopus. Take note that most vendors accept cash only, so be sure to bring some euros with you when you visit.
