Road trip to Alps – Best driving roads of French Alps. This is why you should go for a road trip!
Good morning. It’s Mar. Welcome to M Drives and welcome to another video and welcome to the start of our adventure at Alps today. So, uh I’m at Geneva and I’m the car park where we all parked our cars. So, soon a symphony of cold starts will start here. Uh but for now, yeah, I need to go and get some petrol before we set off in half hour. And yes, so excited. So excited about this one. It will be a good one. [Music] We starting our adventure from Geneva at Switzerland. The beginning of the new adventure. [Music] Yeah. So far driving through Geneva, it’s not much of a driving, I’m afraid. We are stuck in the traffic. Uh we’ve been barely moving for the last half hour. And uh yeah, it’s very pretty here, but I rather cycle here than drive. [Music] Luckily, soon we left the city and we were on our way to some more exciting roads. And we’re in France. A bit more freedom, I guess. H finally. I couldn’t wait to leave Geneva. The traffic was absolutely horrendous. So, now we’re looking into the mountains. That’s where we’re going. [Music] And finally, we are on some twisty roads with no cars ahead. And uh finally, I feel like the trip has started. So, there’s definitely something wrong with my car. I think something fell apart. I’m not sure if this is catalytic converter or something in an exhaust, but yeah, something’s not 100% right. [Music] After a short stop at the top, we were hungry for more twisty roads. [Music] Ow. What? It’s too loud. I don’t know what happened. Maybe I have a leak in the exhaust somewhere underneath the car. It just when I go to really high refs, it sounds like it’s blows through somewhere and it’s like a straight pipe. It is loud. [Music] Okay, listen to this. What the hell? This car is so loud. Oh, this is twisty. I’m enjoying this. Love it. Ah, brilliant. I love this back roads. Um, wherever you go, whichever country you’re in, the back roads are so nice. They’re not too fast, so you’re not like breaking speed limits or anything. You just have fun. What is going on with this exhaust? [Music] [Music] So unfortunately um the M140 had to go back to the nearest tire shop um because it has too much camber and it has eaten the inside of the front tires. So, unfortunately, uh, yeah, he needs to get new tires and get that camber, uh, knocked back to something more road friendly. Um, we are somewhere in France. I don’t know exactly where. Uh, I’ll probably stick something at the bottom of the screen. However, it’s very pretty here and it’s very hot, too. Really enjoying the roads. Update on my exhaust. It’s getting worse. I think it’s a valve. Everything’s too hot to to check it now. I’ll do it tonight. But um I mean [Music] the valve is uh definitely not right. It’s rattling. But I think that’s there’s something wrong with it as well because it only it’s only on full throttle on very high revs. It almost sounds like it has has it blows somewhere through the exhaust. Uh because maybe the valve is closed and there is too much back pressure. No idea. Uh however, I’m going to have to look at that tonight. Uh so far, yeah, I’m really enjoying it. Hopefully, no more issues. The goat village is actually a known tourist attraction. Through the summer, a countless number of goats living here in that village in complete freedom. So, they walk around, they do whatever they want. You can actually buy some food to feed them too. It’s a great fun for kids and for bit bigger kids as well. We all had some food. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a wire which would fix my exhaust. So, it’s going to be rattling through. But it doesn’t matter. Uh it’s time to go back now. Uh so, uh we drive down this road. Couple of more twisties before we stop somewhere for uh something to eat uh and before we reach our hotel tonight. So uh yeah, but such a lovely lovely place here. Um yeah, Albs are beautiful and this is just the beginning. We’re only about 1.5 kilometer up. So yeah, plenty more to go. [Music] Wow, what a view. What have you [Music] my ear? More great views here. We got bit lost. We got separated from the group, but we’re going in the right direction and we’re going over another pass. Oh, wow. Just look at this. One mistake here and you’re gone. Gone. Done. Wow. [Music] Look at this view. It’s a bit windy here, but it’s a lovely wind because it’s over 30°. So, any breeze actually works well. [Music] And we’re going down. These rocks are so impressive. They are monumental. Beautiful, beautiful surroundings. That’s why I love these places. Just look at these cars in this environment. [Music] [Music] I absolutely love this place. Um these towns in the valleys between mountains surrounded by rocks and we’re still in 34° um which is just boiling. So windows staying up at the moment. The air con is blasting. We had to split into two groups. As the petrol stations over here are so small, we could not fit in on one petrol station. So, just to make things easier, we broke the party to two and we’re going to meet together at the next way point. If you’re new to M drives, please make sure you subscribe to my channel to ensure you don’t miss any of the future episodes from my amazing trip to Alps. Now, back to the episode and we’re starting another pass called Cold Average. This one is definitely not an aggressive one. It’s it’s it’s a gentle drive and uh yeah, I’m enjoying it. Um just views. Look at the formation of those rocks. How weirdly shaped they are. Just amazing. Absolutely amazing. [Music] It’s such a different experience from going for a road trip in UK. I mean, the weather is fantastic. The roads are great. Not like in Scotland or anywhere in UK at this point. Just completely different experience. You get that holiday vibe as well because it’s just hot. So, I really really recommend to everyone to come to Alps. You don’t have to go very far, you know, for the first time. Try something easy. You’re going to be overwhelmed with the roads, with the views. You will not know where to look but that’s fine and hopefully you will come back again. You will explore Alps bit further and that’s how it works and you get into it and then it becomes your usual annual trip. That’s what happened to me and and I think that’s great. If you like traveling, if you like your car, what are you waiting for? Just do it. And even better if you can find people which share similar passion like BMW PCC club it’s great you can go with people who want to do the same think this thing is so loud. [Music] So, we finally arrived at Belffort in Delar Ro Hotel. It’s a quiet town uh in the middle of nowhere. Um but uh it’s a very nice hotel where we can chill out tonight and tomorrow we can set off for another day of our big adventure. today’s day. Well, um maybe we did not do any spectacular alpine passes, but plenty of good ones to drive. Um there were sort of 1,500 to probably 1,700 m. So, like I said, not very high, but that is going to change tomorrow. I still need to go downstairs and fix my car. I found a way. So, it looks like the pin from the valve is broken. So, I need to replace it with some kind of wire so it will stop rattling. I hope you enjoyed this video. If you did, please make sure give it a like, subscribe to my channel, and I’ll see you in the next part soon. Goodbye. Do [Music]
Time to start another road trip! We are kicking off with French Alps. Over 9 days, I will visited 5 countries, covered 3100 miles, went to most famous Alpine high passes, to Monaco and I driven on the Nürburgring! It’s a bucket list trip! So if you are looking for a road trip inspiration, you need help with planning your road trip, you are looking for great roads to drive, well this video is for you. It’s a great travel guide to Alpine passes. Hopefully it will give you some good trip ideas about places to visit, where to drive and where to stop. It will also show you which roads and passes you should avoid.
In this episode we start our journey at Geneva in Switzerland, before quickly moving to France. We visited Col de la Colombiere Pass and Col des Aravis Pass which were great drivers roads. The roads offered a nice variety of tighter and faster sections. I was really surprised how much I enjoyed them considering that they haven’t been that high.
A highlight from the day have to be Village des Cheveres in France, the goat village or the village of goats. Not something you can see every day.
It was a great tourist attraction.
I visited the best passes in Swiss Alps, French Alps and Italian Alps.
Susten Pass
Grimsel Pass
Furka Pass
St Gothard Pass
Great Saint Bernard Pass
Nufenen Pass
Col de la Colombiere
Col des Aravis
Col de L’Iseran
Col du Telegraphe
Col du Galiber
Col Du Lautaret
Col D’Izoard
and many more.
I hope you will enjoy my road trip vlog.
