Zakynthos πŸ‡¬πŸ‡· The Island That Steals Your Heart | Travel Documentary

[Music] [Applause] [Music] So, my wife and I decided to celebrate a 10-year anniversary like this. We left early from Victoria station, catching a coach to the airport. A quiet coffee in hand. Still half sleep, but fully alive in the [Music] moment. As we approached Sakos, the clouds gave way to something magical. Turquoise waters, sunlit sand like the island had been waiting for [Music] us. We landed and not long after we were sitting down for lunch at our hotel, our little base for the next few days. An all-inclusive escape, but more than that, a reset. [Music] That afternoon we hit the road. Secos has such a rhythm of its own. Narrow roads, sharp turns, tracks that don’t stop for much. It forced us to slow down, to breathe. Here we are on our way to um Port Lemonas. Fantastic place. So have a look. No words can really describe what we saw. The ocean stretched out endlessly. Vivid blues melting into the sky. It’s completely crystal clear. Transparent. So I don’t know. Looks perish, but it’s completely transparent. It’s fantastic. [Music] We swam, we floated, we explored the caves. It was simple. [Music] [Music] Afterwards, we sat by a cliffside cafe, sipping Greek coffee and watching the sea we’ve just come from. [Music] [Applause] [Music] There’s a kind of peace you only find when you’re truly [Music] present. That night, back at the hotel, we sat on the terrace. Clouds drifting, the moon glowing above us. No words, just stillness. [Music] So, now it’s day two. We’re going to the uh shipwreck um uh beach. Uh supposed to be very touristy. So, we’ll have a look. It’s a lovely day. So, stick around and [Music] watch. The next morning, we set off again. Every twist, every bend revealed something new. As we climbed higher into the mountains, the world began to open up. We stopped at a lookout point, just us, the breeze, and the view that made everything feel small. But then out of nowhere, came a local. So, what what’s the what’s the name of this one? figure it alig salt salt salt salt salt. Oh wow. After salt town, he didn’t just offer directions. He offered us a story. With a warm smile, the spark in his eyes, he told us where to go, what to see. [Music] Olives. No. No, only yes. And then he told us about his passion. So this is your work. I play guitar. Listen. No. No. I play guitar. Normal guitar. Noi. Tomorrow. Tomorrow night. Okay. Play tomorrow. Yeah. Play guitar. He played the guitar. He sang. And tomorrow night he’ll be performing at a local restaurant. Tomorrow night. tomorrow. [Music] We shook hands, promised we’d try and make it, and parted ways. Not even 5 minutes down the road, another viewpoint stopped us in our tracks. This place has colors richer than any photo you could capture. A reminder that sometimes the most beautiful moments are the ones you didn’t plan for. [Music] It’s a viewpoint. This is a viewpoint. Um, very beautiful viewpoint that looks like a Lord of the Rings Gunnam kind of place. And behind us, I’m not too sure what the name is, but I’ll look in Google Maps. [Music] Yeah. Now, we decided to visit Sakintos in late October. Um they’ve told us that this is the very last week of tourism that uh after that everyone, you know, all the shops, all the restaurants will close for the season. and then open again in April. So, we found that the, you know, it’s cloudy here and there, it’s still 21 23Β°, so it’s still pleasant. And as you um travel the island, um you find that the roads are actually quite uh empty and there’s not as many tourists. Now, I can’t I can’t imagine what summer will be like, but you know, full of tourist buses and cars, singleway carriageways like the ones we’ve been on, the musket stuck with traffic. So, yeah. uh late October seems like a October itself seems like a fantastic uh season to come. Um so yeah, that that’s a little tip for you guys to know. Yeah. So um yeah, try and make it. We arrived at the viewpoint greeted by a not so subtle sign. Do not fall. A warning and maybe a metaphor. [Music] Oh, he made it. Yeah, we chose the left trail. Steep, more rugged, very steep, the kind that makes your legs ache, but your heart beat fast. Even in the low season, it was buzzing with people. And when we reached the edge, it hit us. [Music] The scale, the silence, the sheer drop of white cliffs into turquoise waters. Standing there made you feel small but connected, like nature had something to say. And we were finally quiet enough to listen. Shipwreck on my right, beautiful caves on my left, as you can see. [Music] Now we have to make it back. Back we go. [Music] Walking back, we took the second trail. Less demanding, more [Music] forgiving. Both led to different views, but the reward just as great. [Music] Wow. Yeah, you just saw that. [Music] On our way back, we made one last stop. Second Postown, the island’s capital and its heart. [Music] We wandered, not rushed. We tried some grilled octopus. Fresh, smokeoky, perfect. [Music] And just as the sun began to dip, we stumbled upon a wedding. Music in the air, laughter in the streets. [Music] [Music] And we made it back for dinner. [Music] And then the next morning, something new began. My very first hike. But that’s another story. Last time on this series, we explored the unbelievable site Sackintos has to offer. We made friends along the way and bast in the natural beauty that made the first two days unforgettable. So stick around for part two as we explore the rest of this beautiful island. Day three was different. I went on a 20 km hiking adventure to Mount Scopos, but that’s another story. So, I’ll put the link in the description. I got back from that around midday, so I hit the jackpot with these delicious barbecue ribs. And we are on our [Music] way. Borto Rammy located in the northwestern coast of the island. A quiet place to enjoy the con turquoest waters. A true reward after that long hike. [Music] We came here in the last week of high season, so I can only imagine the number of boats coming in and out of here during peak season. No matter though, we enjoyed our stay here for real. [Music] She knows how to cross the road. Car just came by and went back and now crossing. Why did the chicken cross the [Music] road? This is Exoora, a small village where the oldest olive tree resides. Based on its circumference, it’s estimated to be more than 2,000 years old. Now, one can only stare at a tree for so long. This cat, however, stole the show and took everyone’s attention. There’s plenty of shops. In fact, it feels like a tourist trap. But we got to know Michael in his store, uh, who was very invited to us. And I cannot forget Leas Farm. You were so nice to us and by far the best thing about Lexor. We see this. It was time to get out of there. [Music] Cameo Island was our next stop. How’s your day? An Instagram worthy place. [Music] So, here’s what it looks like inside. [Music] Anyway, we chose not to go in. And the reason was cuz my wife and I remember this guy. [Laughter] 9:00 tomorrow night. He only gave us the name of the restaurant, but we made our way anyway. As we arrived, we could hear guitars, music playing [Music] You saw us and came to say hello. Hey, how are you? Please. Yes. You said we come, huh? You said we come. Welcome. [Applause] Oh, [Music] [Laughter] [Music] it was an evening full of serenade, music, laughter, and hospitality from our friends. [Music] We stay we stay we stay late today. [Music] So my friends from university, [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you Spirus. We hope to see you again and everyone at Agriaki. After a late night at Agriaki, we headed towards the famous turtle nesting beach and stumbled upon this. We just come across uh the turtle center. Turtle here, turtle over there. I think my sons will be so excited. And then you got a massive turtle over here. Brilliant. Brilliant. We’ll have a We’re going to have a look actually. We come here by We come here by accident, but it’s good. Naturally, they will be on the beach. H the sea turtle rescue center offered us insight into the safekeeping of these animals and showed us how important it is to keep our oceans clean. [Music] [Music] Thank you. [Music] [Music] [Music] Now it was time to head over just a stumbthrows distance away into Garacas Beach inside the protected national marine park of Sakintos. Used as a nesting place for the Keta sea turtle. It is a quiet place indeed, but I went out to [Music] explore. The natural rock formations and the rain cliffs were incredible. [Music] [Music] Hey, speedy. What? FA. Yeah, I know you know. Yeah. Where you guys coming from? The Netherlands. Oh, Netherlands as well. Okay. I saw a couple people before people from Netherlands. Yeah, because we there is a holiday national holiday for one week. So I think every almost all the tourists with children. Yes. Because the schools are You made the right choice. Yeah. Yeah. This is deep. And as they would have it, I found this chair on the edge of this cliff inviting me to sit, slow down, and appreciate this. He is right there. Can you see me over [Music] there? Beautiful. As I’ve come into the beach, no more waves for me. So, I can literally just relax. Relax. [Music] You know, sometimes you just need to relax and uh enjoy the bloody hotel, you know. Voila. [Music] After some much needed rest, we made a quick stop in Sakinto’s town, checking out its cathedral inside its main square. [Music] [Music] [Music] Our last stop for the day was Kerry Village. [Music] And we wanted to see the sunset in style. It was the perfect way to wrap up these amazing few days on the island. [Music] [Laughter] We learned that unplanned and uncommon places often surprise you. No. That people can extend friendship and warmth when least expect it. [Music] I cannot forget to focus less on appearance and pay more attention to the simple things that make life worth appreciating. [Music] Please. Yes. You said we’ll come. Huh? We said we’ll come. Welcome. [Music] So, thank you Sakintos and its wonderful [Music] people.
