Mystery at Aschaffenburg: The Church That Vanished in a Decade in Northern Bavaria
In the middle of this quiet lake in Ashafenberg, Germany, stone walls whisper a story of power, secrecy, and a convent that never stood a chance. These are the remains of the church of the holy suffoca. Built in the 1540s for a convent and nearly forgotten just a decade later. Archbishop Alrech of Brandenburgg near the end of his life built this convent in Ashafenberg’s tear garden. Some say it was thanks to the beginnings, women who live simply caring for the sick. But newer research tells a different story. Aubrech made his longtime companion Agnes Place head of the convent perhaps to secure her future. After his death, debts caught up. Agnes was arrested. The convent was abandoned. Wars followed in 1546 and 1552 and even World War II. Each one carving more from its stones. Once a symbol of quiet lives and powerful secrets, the ruins became shelter during epidemics. And now a silent monument in the middle of Shunel Park. One minute, one history.
Hidden in the misty waters of Schöntal Lake, the ruins of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre whisper a story of power, secrecy, and betrayal. Built in the 1540s for a Beguine convent, it quickly fell into ruin after Archbishop Albrecht placed his companion Agnes Pleß in charge. From medieval wars to modern times, the stones tell tales of lives lived and forgotten.
