About 81% of you guys that are currently watching are not subscribed. So, if you can please do me a huge favor, hit that subscribe button. It only takes a couple seconds and you’ll do a huge favor for my channel. Thank you guys. Now let’s get back to the video. So what is the allure of Porto? Why do so many people live or want to live in Porto? Well, I had opportunity to go check out Porto because I had to run some errands there. And here’s what I discovered. The first thing I wanted to do uh since I was on the north side of town was actually visit the mall because I’ve had to go to this mall a few times. And that’s one of the the great things about Porto is that you have great shopping there and services unlike in Logos where we are lacking quite a bit of the services which I’ll touch on a little bit later. I have to frequent Portima quite a bit. So this particular day I went to the major mall which is the the Aqua Portimal and they have everything from like shoe stores. It is a near Starbucks for me which I love Starbucks and it’s autumn season so you know I had to stop in and get that that pumpkin spice latte which they’re so famous for this particular open air mall. So you know you have to be conscious of that too. So during the winter when it’s raining season, you can get a little wet, but it is a beautiful mall. It’s very aesthetically pleasing. Has a food court upstairs where you have your array of particular restaurants and food stalls from healthy options, pizza, pretty much anything you want. They even have a Pizza Hut and I believe KFC or something like that. But you have everything that you want. And they have my favorite, bubble tea. Unfortunately, I wasn’t hungry enough to get it, but they had one of those, too. So, I checked out the mall and I have to say that on a few other occasions, we had to go back to the mall. So, for like mattresses, we have a thing for latex, latex mattresses. So, we’ve had to order that from there. And shoes, running shoes, etc. Clothing. We don’t have that stuff here in Lago. So for this we have to frequent portimal. Also other services such as maintenance on your car. The whole reason why I was in Portto and I had the opportunity to kind of tour and explore was because I had to get my car serviced at the Toyota dealership here in Portto was the nearest one to me. So you have the the services and the shopping here in this area that are you know unsurpassed. So for that reason if you live in the area like in Avore Farrauda near nearby towns Monique Logos all the way to Saigas most likely you have to come to Porto for for some particular services. Beyond that you have the natural beauty the the beaches the landscapes it is just unsurpassed. You have the Arande River which kind of separates the the east coast of Porto and separates it between Farrauda, another uh little town, but it is amazing. You have the wonderful river that pours out into the ocean and then you have the wonderful beaches of Prada Roachcha which is the main attraction in Porttomau. Especially during the summers, you you have all these wonderful festivals that come in like the big one, Afro Nation, usually like in July or something like that. And then you have like all these city throne festivals that come through which is amazing. There’s always something to do. So that’s one of the highlights of living in Porto is that you have this menagerie of activities that go on where you can actually go in and and have some fun. Tons of restaurants, tons of activities such as uh the Halloween festival that we’ll be going to later this month since it’s October. And then you have all these other things that kind of go on. You also have two other nearby beaches that are just as beautiful, which is Prios Tastelos and Prio Amando, which are the two nearby ones. So, they’re wonderful beaches. And when Pride Roshia gets a little little nutty, which in the summer does, I mean, you pretty much towel the towel, you can go a little bit further down the boardwalk and then hit these other two beaches up. So, it gives you some options. There’s a main street, which is uh Thomas de Cabraa, and that street you have a bunch of restaurants. You have one of my favorites, which is called Super Juice. you have other places like tapa places. So, you have your your kind of pick of what you’d want to eat, especially if you’re been at the beach all day and swimming and etc. You know, you’re going to you’re going to build up an appetite. So, you have tons of restaurants, you have tons of bars that you can go and hang out and and have a couple drinks, have the view of the ocean. And so this is a really cool kind of patio or or street where you can walk through and just see some some really nice sites. You also have the Hotel Arg. So the folks that are into gambling, you can go in and pop in and and go and gamble a little bit. And I believe it’s also a spa and resort. So, it’s also a nice place to kind of hang out. Once you get all the way down to the east side of the Porto and Pria Roshia over by the lighthouse, you have the fort of Santa Katarina. And from here, you have pretty expansive views of the beach, the marina, and pretty much all the way over to Ferrauda as well. It sits up on a hill, uh, which is kind of interesting. And this, you know, the tire coast, you have the low-lying beach and then you have, you know, pretty high cliffs. So, it sits up on the cliff and you kind of looking down at the surrounding areas and you have expansive views of the of the wonderful ocean. So, it’s a cool spot to kind of hang out. And this fort is, you know, pretty e pretty old. I believe it’s from the medieval days. So, it’s a nice place to kind of go and check out and have some scenic views. Then you have the boardwalk along the river which you can walk for kilometers. It’s a nice place to take a stroll. You have bike lanes. You have all that kind of stuff that you can kind of uh utilize and enjoy the city. And they have things for like kids. They have a big water fountain. They have a carousel there. And I always see a lot of people fishing there. I wouldn’t fish there because the marina’s there, but you do have the option to fish there. And then also at the beach, I saw quite a bit of people fishing there as well. There’s like a little lighthouse at the end of the atoll uh which is the the man-made structure that they built out and it’s a great place to walk and you know you’re surrounded by water and then at the very end I saw quite a bit of fishermen. I didn’t see catch anything, but there were quite a bit of fishermanmen there, too. So, I’m at the very tip of Portau. As you can see, this is the little end point. If I spin around, it’s a lot of fishermen out here, but you have on this side, you have uh Pride De Roia and the wonderful ocean. Then if you look on this side, you actually have over here you have uh Farrauda. And I’ve been here before. I’ve been to Farrauda and it’s a lovely, lovely place. You guys should definitely check it out. It’s small and quaint and it has some wonderful streets. I’ll stick some pictures of it here with the bugenvilla kind of draping over the sides of the building. It’s absolutely wonderful. All right, let’s keep exploring. It was a cool place to just chill and walk and the natural beauty. You can walk along the coast. You can walk all the way back towards the little town called Va and Ivore if you really want to walk that far. But you have the coastal trails to walk. And the the be the natural beauty there is just unsurpassed. It is a very very beautiful natural beauty uh landscape especially in the southern part of of um Porto and then when you’re looking back north certain certain parts you can see the mountains in the background which is amazing and north of Porto you actually have which is a wonderful place that has uh natural hot springs and and spas and which is one of the places I plan on checking out in the future, but you have that place to kind of check out as well. So, it is nicely situated when it comes to certain activities and stuff like that. Next up, we have the weather. Now, for the most part, it’s great, but it depends on what you like. Cuz me, coming from Florida, I like hot weather, to be honest. So it is very nice but some people can’t deal with the hot weather because in the in the summer it gets hot. It truly gets hot. Even as a fullerian I get I I feel hot here. So that’s something that you need to keep in mind that the summers can be brutal for people who can’t handle heat. It is it is tough tough setting. So you need to keep that in mind when it comes to determining whether or not portal may be for you because in the summer it gets hot and then the winters the winters are mild moderate. We do get a lot of rain which a lot of people don’t know that in the winter it we have a little bit of raining season and it pretty much lasts from last year it was like mid-occtober all the way through to pretty much March. It rained off and on maybe about eight 11 days of a month. So it was quite rainy and everything turned green which was completely surprising because most of the time all you see is the like the white stone from the cliffs and everything. So that was really interesting to see the the huge difference in the landscape during the raining season. So, the weather can be great if you like warm weather, mild weather, especially in the winter. But if you can’t handle the heat, it’s going to be tough for you because from June through pretty much September, heck, even now October, we’re still getting like 83 84 degrees Fahrenheit. And what they say about the Portuguese sun, yo, it’s brutal. I’m from Florida and we have sunshine like crazy. and the sun here is way more intense. I don’t know what it is, but it it’s brutal. It’s it can get hot. So, that’s something that you need to think about. Another great thing for Porto is the housing. Honestly, there’s just more supply compared to the other areas like Farrauda, Airvore, and especially Logos. Logos sucks when it comes to housing. I don’t know if you saw my other video, but I kind of talk about that in depth. But Porto Mountain has lots of hop options. There’s just more supply. The prices are significantly lower than like Logos per se and the surrounding areas. But for the big city itself, you know, mostly in larger cities cuz people want to be there. There’s just more amenities and etc. The prices are usually a bit higher. But for Porto, it’s reasonable. And if you guys want me to do a in-depth video of kind of exploring some of the housing opportunities here in Porto, let me know. Leave it down in the comment section below. So, you have the opportunity to go in and get some housing. And I have to say that most of it is condos and that type of thing, but there’s plenty of it. So you have a lot of options, newer, modern, and the price compared to the rest of Algarve is pretty decent and reasonable. And as I mentioned, there’s also, like I said, a lot of festivals and stuff going on, a lot of activities in the area. You have water activities. I mean, you’re by the beach. So if you are a huge water person, there’s a lot of activities, swimming, kaying, boat tours, uh fishing, you have the the gamut of things to do here. So it is a great place to just check out and especially if you’re a huge water person. Beyond that, you have the coastal trails. So I know there’s like a bunch of run groups and stuff like that where you can, you know, do trail running and take hikes, bird watching. You can get not too far from like Alvore and the estray there and marshes. You can go further up the river uh the Arat River and check out some of the marshlands there and go bird watching. So you have the activities that you can do as well. Next thing I talk about is the health care system. The health care and portal is pretty darn good and especially for older people. I have to say that a lot of people that I know that are older, they prefer to be in Portto because the health system is just better. You have more you have more doctors that are a bit more available. When you have medical emergencies, the all the main doctors are there. We oursel, we had a family emergency for for my son. He end up swallowing something that he shouldn’t have swallowed. a little metal ball and unfortunately here in Logos we don’t have the facilities to handle very extreme emergencies. Yeah, we have a emergency room center but when there’s something serious they either ship us to Portal or ship us to Pharaoh which are the two main instances that we had. So if you have medical emergencies portal is the place to be because they they have that main big hospital in Porto. So that is great for folks who are getting up in age and you have that. It’s also great for kids because that’s where the the main pediatric hospital is in our region. So if there’s an issue with one of our kids, we end up having to go to Porto, which is like 25minut drive from Lago. So, it’s it’s a a big deal, especially for people who have health issues and and need to be pretty close to a a big hospital center. So, that’s something you need to think about. For people who have families, young kids, that’s also pretty good, too, because there’s a lot of school options. And that’s one of the things that we kind of lack here in Logos is that some of these schools, we’ve been on the waiting list for over 3 years, which is crazy crazy to think about. But in in Porto, you have that option to get your kids into a school, public school, which are free. So you you have an easier time doing that, which is a big plus. So what about the things that aren’t so great in Porto? Well, summers could be a boom or a buzz for you because in the summer things get busy. I mean, really busy. As I mentioned, there’s about 63,000 residents, full-time residents that live in Porto. During the summer, it can balloon up to four times that. So, over 200,000 residents. So, the beaches get super crowded. You have tons of people towel to towel. you have all these festivals and parties and stuff going on and you kind of bring in the riff raff that that kind of comes along with that. So, you have to be okay with that. And that’s one of the the main issues is the summertime is that things can get super crowded. Also, the other side of being in the summer, as I mentioned before, it gets hot. It gets really hot. So that’s something you have to be comfortable with or you know that hey I’m going to rent my house out during the summer because I can’t handle the heat which a lot of people end up doing and a lot of people end up making a lot of money in the summer because of it. So that’s something that you can consider if you’re okay doing that doing an Airbnb but you know that’s something that you have to consider. So it’s going to make everything painful during the summer when you need to go grocery shopping. you have to continue with all the tourists that are now, you know, is four times the amount of population. So things that you used to buy, you can no longer buy. All that kind of stuff you need to consider. So that’s that could be an issue for some. Housing is another thing that you need to consider. As I mentioned earlier, a lot of Porto is gigantic high-rise condos and that type of stuff. I haven’t seen a lot of villas in town. Outside on the outskirts of town, there seem to be a lot of villas and, you know, a lot of, I guess, suburbs that you can kind of buy into. But in the city itself, I don’t see a lot of villas for sale or reasonably for sale. So if you want a villa, you may have to look at other other cities outside of the city and that type of thing because majority of the housing is apartments in Porto. And the main issue that I see especially when you consider all the other places in the Argo is Porto just isn’t that attractive from a visual perspective. And as I mentioned, you have the neighboring towns like Farrauda, Avore, and Logos that just blows it out of the water visually. There are a lot of villas that are along the the water along the coast. And so, because you don’t have all those highrises, visually speaking, you get to see a lot of the ocean. A lot of these villas have ocean views and etc. instead of just highrises that kind of block out the the landscape for majority of the city because they can’t see past those big highrises. And that’s one of the main issues with Porto is that it’s just a bunch of highrises and you can’t get past that. And and for some people when you have all these other options in the algorith like I just mentioned, you tend to gravitate towards those other areas because they’re just visually more pleasing. When you decide to uproot your life and and move to this part of the world, you want to be visually stimulated. as simple as that, you know, and you don’t want to be in some place that you you dread driving around or walking around, etc. So, that’s something that you you have to take into consideration. So, this is, I guess, the old town, the Port Mau. have a look at the square here and we’ll do some exploring through the streets and just see how it is cuz I know a lot of people they don’t get to see the old downtown of Porto. They usually just see uh I guess the Prada de Rochia area and the beach area, but this would be a nice change. Now, this is really cool. You have the walkway, nicely painted old buildings. on the top walls. This is charming. One of the few charming streets that I’ve seen [Music] [Music] Hello. [Music] Hey. Hey. Heat. Heat. N. [Music] Hey, [Music] heat. Hey. [Music] So, what are my final thoughts? Portal is actually a great city. It has everything you need. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have everything that some people may want, such as, you know, a villa with a a great price, having a wonderful view of the ocean, and not having a look at a city that’s full of highrises, etc., especially in a country so beautiful as Portugal. So, those are some of the things that you have to consider whether or not Porta may be right for you. Once again, thank you guys for watching. Uh, if you have any questions about Porto, is there anything you want me to go back and kind of cover or anything you want to see, leave down in the comments down below. And once again, if you can hit that subscribe button, I greatly appreciate it. And I’ll see you guys in the next one. Peace. [Music] Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. [Music] [Music] [Music] Hey, hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. [Music] [Music] Heat.

Welcome to sunny Portimão and Praia da Rocha — one of Portugal’s most beautiful coastal destinations in the Algarve.

In this video, we explore golden beaches, dramatic cliffs, the marina, and old town Portimão, and hidden gems beyond the sand. Whether you’re planning a trip or just dreaming of Portugal, you’ll get a feel for what makes this city special and what’s it like to live in Portimão year round.

History of Portimão has deeper roots than many realize. Archaeological evidence suggests that the area was inhabited in prehistoric times, and later influenced by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans.

During the medieval era, under Moorish rule, it was part of the wider Algarve region’s agricultural and maritime economy.

Modern Portimão began to take shape in the 15th century, especially during the reign of King Afonso V (1463), when the settlement was granted privileges and began forming defensive walls.
Over time, the town grew as a center for fishing, shipbuilding, and canning industry — sectors that shaped its identity before tourism took over in the 20th century.

One notable landmark is the Fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar, built in the 17th century to defend the mouth of the Arade River and nearby coastline — today it offers scenic views over Praia da Rocha.

Though much of its industrial heritage has given way to tourism, Portimão still retains charm in its architecture, riverside, markets, and museums that echo its maritime past.

    1. It seems that Portimao is like two-face from the Batman seriess. One with the beautiful beaches, and the other ugly face being downtown area. Some of the building you showed were quite beat up! Is it safe there?

    2. I spent about 5 days in Portimão. That’s not European sun! Nope, that African sun! I’m a Californian sistah, and I haven’t been to Mama Africa yet, but the Algarve feels different to the rest of Europe. I have a friend who lives there, and loves it. The busiest time of the summer, she leaves. I need to spend more time in Faro, to get the vibe. I only had 1 day there.
