The water tower is a well-known landmark of Mannheim . The tower was built from 1886 to 1889 on what is now Friedrichsplatz on the eastern edge of the city center according to plans by Gustav Halmhuber . The tower is 60 meters high and has a diameter of 19 meters. It was Mannheim’s first municipal water tower and initially served all the functions of the drinking water supply , including maintaining a constant water pressure. After the construction of the higher Luzenberg water tower in 1909, it served as a reserve elevated tank until 2000. The tower structure has been a listed building since 1987 .

The Mannheim Water Tower is the city’s landmark, built from 1886 to 1889 on Friedrichsplatz, one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau buildings in Germany. With a height of 60 meters and a capacity of 2000 cubic meters of water, it originally served as a drinking water supply and later became a reserve reservoir until it was decommissioned in 2000 It is an important Art Nouveau building, known for its architecture and the adjacent park with water features .

Architecture and construction: The water tower was designed by Gustav Halmhuber and built in the Art Nouveau style.

Function: It was the first municipal water tower and was used to supply drinking water to ensure constant water pressure.

Size and capacity: The tower is 60 meters high, has a diameter of 19 meters and can store up to 2,000 cubic meters of water.

Location and surroundings: It is located on Friedrichsplatz, one of the largest and most beautiful Art Nouveau ensembles in Germany.

Special feature: On the roof is the statue of Amphitrite, the Greek goddess of the sea. The surrounding complex includes gardens, pools, and a banquet hall.

Water features: The water features, which are colorfully illuminated at night, make the complex a special attraction.

Monument protection: The water tower has been a listed building since 1987 and is an important landmark for Mannheim
