I don't want to blame the restaurant which is why I don't put their name in here. They are doing a great job, but I just missed this big stunning wow effect while eating.

Is this just me? A dessert that looks like a real hazelnut and tastes like a real hazelnut is fantastic… but is just so ordinary and boring.

I was not blown away at all, but that is actually something you'd expect when visiting such a restaurant, right?

The restaurant just defended their 3* a few month ago…

  1. When you travel hours and hours to get to a 3* in a different country where you drop a grand on a meal, it is okay to have high expectations.

At the same time, restaurants do have off nights occasionally, or simply dont match the flavor profiles that you specifically enjoy.

Nothing seems overly problematic with the presentation here.

  2. The problem with 3 star restaurants is that the expectations are usually way too high, best way to enjoy your experience is manage your expectations going in.

This looks nice but you’re right, Germany over inflates some of their institutions. I’ve been to lackluster 1 and 3 star restaurants here. I’ve also seen my favorite restaurant in the entire world, given 1 star; essentially snubbed for years.

Food and cooking can be good but wow factor is missing in a lot of German institutions compared to neighbors Denmark & France.

Maybe go out for the pleasure and joy of dining?

If you’ve lost that, then it’s you. Either you’re setting ridiculous expectations or you just need to take a break from the fine dining for a while.

  5. To my eyes it all looks fine and thoughtfully plated.

To my taste the desert is bit ‘busy’ but that probably just a personal quibble. I see what they were going for.

    Nothing overly problematic.

Some meals, even at nice restaurants, hit harder than others. I would be interested to hear what it was that put you off about your meal.

  6. Sorry you had a disappointing experience, but I can’t discern anything wrong in the pictures. I’m not necessarily looking for a ‘big stunning wow effect’ while eating at a 3*. I’m looking for delicious food and wine and great service. Maybe we just have different expectations.
