As a Washingtonian who does not like seafood at all it has been painful to know that this one will be a tough sell for me, but man do these dishes look beautiful. Maybe one day!

    2. Best meal I’ve had this year. Didn’t get to fine dine much but #2 was Provenance, Philly. Dined solo while my wife watched the baby at the hotel. Ended up sitting next to a CDC of a 1 star restaurant who spent the last 2 days staging at Jônt. His meal and wine pairing was preselected and covered. I went with the regular tasting menu with no supplements (375) and the non alcoholic pairing (99) which I tend to find more interesting than wine pairings. Came out to $625 after tax and tip.

Food was incredible from start to finish. Only complaint was that it was very loud and hard to hear the servers. Favorite dishes were Wagyu beef tart which reminded me of Jua’s caviar Kim and the tilefish. Least favorite was the ankimo. It was so loud all heard was foie gras and expected a very rich bite. It was very bitter.

The sauce for the antelope was absolutely incredible. It was made from bananas that they cooked down for a very long time and had chocolate notes.

House made non alc drinks were incredible. Received a good amount of alcohol on the house as well. Welcome champagne was refilled 2x, asked for a picture of the champagne bottle server was pouring for the chef next to me and they ended up giving me a pour as well. One of the server also accidentally poured me a wine intended for the wine pairing. They served a collaboration non alc wine made by Single Thread. It was really good and I ended up ordering some online last week. The best non alc pairing was served with the dessert, the kombu milk tea. Both the chef and I agreed that it should have been on the menu with the dessert like the consommé served with the antelope since it was sooo good and paired so well.

Pluot bomb was very refreshing. Chef was served the Japanese melon which was a $40 supplement. He was nice enough to share it with me. It was good but not $40 good. The sweet potato dessert was very good. Reminded me of Cedric Grolets Vanilla bean dessert that looks like a turd. Thin chocolate shell with a super creamy interior.

Gave us mint matcha latte in a Togo bag at the end. Tasted like toothpaste
